Not sure how I feel about having this download on my phone without my permission. How about you?

I mean, I remember it being nice to have an actual discussion rather than people just randomly one shotting their opinions into the void, clicking off and NEVER ENGAGING AGAIN.

Is that fun? Why?

I think maybe I need to hide AIBU...

Poetryinaction · 21/06/2020 11:57

Do people really read 16 pages of everything? I've never understood why you would get so offended that people don't have time to do that. You don't have to reply to someone if they've unknowingly annoyed you. Or if you can't be bothered.

GoldenOmber · 21/06/2020 12:03

You don't have to read 16 pages of everything, but it is a bit odd to read zero pages of anything beyond the OP. Especially if it's on a subject you are clearly worried about enough to post "omg it's on my and DP's phone too!" I do agree that discussion forums work best when there's some element of discussion...

But where would we be without cancel the cheque? Grin

Be aware, this is only the beginning ..

I saw that episode of Black Mirror, starring Bryce Dallas Howard!

SoupDragon · 21/06/2020 12:27

I was looking into what us in my phone to delete unused things LAST SUMMER and thus “health” was already there

"Health" was, yes. That's not the issue though.

It’s nothing to do with covid 19 and nothing to do with the government.

It's called "covid-19 exposure logging"

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 21/06/2020 12:27

@FiveFootTwoEyesOfBlue

FFS, you don't believe this shit, do you?

As in is it there on peoples phones? Yes. It is.

I think they meant the conspiracy theories.

pigsDOfly · 21/06/2020 12:35

It's on my phone, I didn't expect it to be as I have no time for conspiracy theories, but yes, it's there, but does need to be turned on.

MrsFezziwig · 21/06/2020 12:37

I hate apps.of any kind. I don't trust any of them!

Then smartphones are not for you, so not an issue.

@GoldenOmber
@dementedpixie I’m thinking you must be primary school teachers - my friend is one and she has the same patience and persistence when repeatedly explaining a simple concept to the hard of thinking.

dementedpixie · 21/06/2020 12:38

Why would it not be on there if the updates are sent to every phone? It is software to enable an app to work once the app is in existence

Pebblexox · 21/06/2020 12:38

For it to be usable you will have to download an app to go alongside it. So currently it's non functioning, and will remain that way unless you download the partnering app.

dementedpixie · 21/06/2020 12:39

I'm not a teacher Grin but I have 2 teenagers

MurrayTheMonk · 21/06/2020 12:44

On mine too

OchonAgusOchonO · 21/06/2020 12:49

@pigsDOfly - It's on my phone, I didn't expect it to be as I have no time for conspiracy theories, but yes, it's there, but does need to be turned on.

Maybe try a tinfoil hat instead, as your lack of time for conspiracy theories is obviously not sufficient protection.

Alternatively, you could do a teeny bit of research (or even read a few of the posts here) in order to help you understand what it actually is.

SoupDragon · 21/06/2020 12:54

It's not on my phone.

Because I've not installed the latest iOS update.

sparklefarts · 21/06/2020 12:56

Jesus wept how are people still panicking about this?!?!

BertieBotts · 21/06/2020 13:00

If you don't have time to read 16 pages of discussion, or don't have the interest in a topic to read 16 pages of it, why click onto a 16 page thread? That's what I don't understand. There are plenty of threads.

It's annoying because it disrupts the flow of conversation as well as making threads incredibly long and full of one shot responses, which discourages others from bothering to read the whole thread and perpetuates the issue.

But also, it doesn't take very long to just read the first and last pages if you did want to jump into a discussion but hadn't seen it earlier. I suppose I don't understand the motivation behind treating it like the comments section of a newspaper?

pigsDOfly · 21/06/2020 13:02

@OchonAgusOchonO

What a very odd response to my post.

I don't actually understand what your point is.

The tone of the OP was that we were all being sent something that could be intrusive and unwelcome and sounded as if the OP thought that there was some sort of conspiracy by the government to put things on our phones as a means of control.

Instead it's clearly a perfectly reasonable part of the test and track app that we're all going to need if test and track is going to work successfully, and we just need to turn it on.

Not sure why that means I need either a tinfoil hat, or that I need to do research, or indeed what I should be researching.

I think perhaps you misread my post.

bubbleup · 21/06/2020 13:17

@pigsDOfly

Because you said that you would only expect to see it on your phone if it were there as part of a conspiracy theory.

It's not.

WhatCFeryIsThis · 21/06/2020 13:19

Forget track and trace, I just checked my phone and there's a WEATHER app on it!!

So now anybody can control the weather from their phone?! I bet you Betty up the road will keep using it to water her plants and stop us from having our bonfires Angry.

This has gone too far now.

OchonAgusOchonO · 21/06/2020 13:23

@pigsDOfly - Your comment I didn't expect it to be as I have no time for conspiracy theories, suggested to me that you thought it appeared in some sort of deceptive manner, rather than a documented update to an OS. That was why I suggested researching what it was, particularly given the number of posts on this thread explaining it. Your update indicates you understand what it is. Your original post didn't. The tinfoil hat bit was an, admittedly pretty lame, attempt at humour.

There are 16 pages of people explaining what it is. There are also still people posting who seem to think it is some form of subterfuge on the part of big brother. I read your post as being one of those. Apologies for any offence.

WhatCFeryIsThis · 21/06/2020 13:41

I can't speak for any other posters, but when I saw the OP I thought 'oh god not another conspiracy theory'. Then when I checked and it was there, I strangely no longer felt it was a conspiracy because I don't actually think that Apple or Samsung are trying to control the world. Which apparently makes me 'very naive'. Oh well.

PinkBuffalo · 21/06/2020 13:43

I checked mine I cannot see anything on there. I rarely have mine On anyway I just turned in on to check after seeing this

bubbleup · 21/06/2020 14:07

Well it probably needs to be switched on to update or something pink. Strange you went to the effort of switching it on just for this though.

I'm assuming you've RTFT and don't think the government/Apple are trying to control you with this perfectly normal update?
