I know someone on another thread suggest someone start one of these. Considering I've just watched a video with the person leading the vaccine trial,I thought now's as good a time as any. Here's the link to the video,it's really hopeful

That looks promising. I’m glad we have more than just the oxford one. With a bit of luck they could both work..?!

fadingfast · 15/07/2020 11:40

This sounds promising too for the Oxford vaccine:

schimmelreiter · 15/07/2020 11:52

And the moderna one!

Jrobhatch29 · 15/07/2020 13:27

Was just coming on to post that link. Super news! Been feeling down today and that has given me some hope

MarcelineMissouri · 15/07/2020 13:35

Gosh @fadingfast that sounds really hopeful. I’ll be keeping everything crossed 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Redolent · 15/07/2020 13:38

“ If the Oxford vaccine is proven effective, it could go into mass production as early as September.”

Slightly confused by this. Isn’t it already being mass produced, at risk?

MarcelineMissouri · 15/07/2020 13:40

I also saw an interview on CNN yesterday with a science guy - can’t remember the name of his company annoyingly. But they are working on antibody treatments and he said things were going really well.... This article is a few weeks old but talks about what the treatment is.

@feelingverylazytoday

Here's an update on the Imperial vaccine www.imperial.ac.uk/news/199274/covid-19-trial-progresses-cautious-optimism-grows/ The goal is to make it available to every person on the planet. I really hope they can pull it off.
Thanks for doing this thread, just why I needed 💐

Yes I thought that too

MarcelineMissouri · 15/07/2020 13:53

It is already being produced. I assume it’s bad wording and he maybe means production will ramp up another level, or even that it could start being distributed in September as has been mentioned in other articles.

Juo · 15/07/2020 14:02

I wonder whether they are thinking of trials in Leicester or other hotspots.

palacegirl77 · 15/07/2020 14:26

Thank you for this info! That really is something to keep positive about.

Layladylay234 · 15/07/2020 14:29

Yes the news about Oxford vaccine today was brilliant. I'd be very happy for them to trial it in Leicester considering that's where I live!

I honestly feel if I could do another 6 months of lockdown if we knew the vaccine was successful and would be rolled out to the general population next spring. I think it's the not knowing that's the hardest of all this

This is a really interesting read about the Oxford programme (plus others):
www.bloomberg.com/news/features/2020-07-15/oxford-s-covid-19-vaccine-is-the-coronavirus-front-runner

MarcelineMissouri · 15/07/2020 16:39

I was just reading that @fadingfast! What amazing work they’re doing. Please let it work!

TeaInTheGarden · 15/07/2020 19:22

Aha these are the results I was talking about...! Sounds very promising, got everything crossed!
And great news they are trialling in the US too.

MarcelineMissouri · 15/07/2020 19:59

I have just seen a tweet from sky news saying the Lancet report on phase 1 trials will be published on Monday so possibly a little longer to wait to hear unless there’s something else coming out tomorrow.

TheWhalrus · 15/07/2020 20:11

Here's the phase I report from the Moderna vaccine. Seems pretty good to me - people in the trial had, on average, better anti-SARS-CoV-2 activity than observed in convalescent plasma (fig 2) and not too many side effects. Phase I data doesn't necessarily mean it works, (although this was the case for this type of assay when testing vaccines for original SARS, MERS and influenza). This is as good as we can realistically hope for ATM: www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa2022483?query=featured_home

I'll look for the Lancet report and post a link when its out (I have to keep an eye on these things for my work anyway).

feelingverylazytoday · 15/07/2020 21:19

@Juo

I wonder whether they are thinking of trials in Leicester or other hotspots.
I don't think there are enough cases there to test a vaccine at the moment.
tobee · 15/07/2020 22:29

I believe Imperial and Oxford are going to work together if necessary (whatever that means precisely).

Worldwide collaboration is what we want and I believe thst has largely been happening; which is pretty much unprecedented. Donald Trump trying to keep everything for America only notwithstanding

Mybrowneyedgal · 16/07/2020 12:39

That link is behind a paywall, the headline sounds promising though

MarcelineMissouri · 16/07/2020 13:11

Here is the same story from Sky

news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-oxford-vaccine-could-provide-double-protection-report-12029406

MarshaBradyo · 16/07/2020 18:23

Listening to R4 sounds like it’s going to take until end of this year / early next.

Does anyone know: do other vaccines deliberately expose person to virus after vaccine?

Rather than this method

schimmelreiter · 16/07/2020 18:43

There is a group of people in the US who want this - including volunteers, but it is normally considered unethical. A group of scientists have signed a letter asking for it to be considered.
