It seems to be middle aged overweight men that have the most problem, or the rudeness to say something /point and laugh. Is that because they know they are more at risk so seeing me masked up makes them uncomfortable?
I wear it in any enclosed space including cars as I have to drive other peoples cars for work. I know the studies are limited but there does seem consensus that it will at least stop me spreading it if I'm asymptomatic.
Just going to a car and a man said 'why a you fucking wearing that' and laughed at me. Why?

Draw some big sharp teeth on it.

Floatyboat · 05/06/2020 12:45

Because some people are obnoxious.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 05/06/2020 12:47

Just going to a car and a man said 'why a you fucking wearing that' and laughed at me.

You could ask "Why you fucking aren't wearing this?" but he's twat and better not encouraged in his twattery.

VeganVeal · 05/06/2020 12:49

And because masks dont really offer protection

MsMeNz · 05/06/2020 12:49

Joke will be on them when the second wave hits and going my what's started to happen in other countries who are ahead of us that's already started.

And it will and to be fair most people will be fine as stats show I'm not all doom and gloom. But for those of us with health issues I don't care what people think I look after me and mine.

TheQueef · 05/06/2020 12:50

Should have told him you have Ebola.

Lordamighty · 05/06/2020 13:07

Just start coughing, that should shut them up.

FlamedToACrisp · 05/06/2020 13:12

Tell them you're allergic to arseholes...then cough and say, "Oh, there it goes again."

BirdieFriendReturns · 05/06/2020 13:12

Oh yes, the fabled second wave that some people seem to be excited for.

Couchbettato · 05/06/2020 13:17

Took DS to the doctor's today for his 1 year jabs, and had to ring the doorbell to get in. The receptionist came out and said "Oh thank goodness. You're the first person I haven't had to tell to put a mask on."

I think the people who are 'exercising their right not to wear a mask' are poking fun at others in public because they inevitably would be blamed if there were another spike and it's much easier to say "you look a twat" than to say "I care about your safety".

Kelsoooo · 05/06/2020 13:18

I find this quite hard to believe tbh. Loads of people are wearing masks round here, and those at aren't - just arent. No comments either way.

I've had a bit of good natured teasing from people because of the stupid hi-vis vest I have to wear but that's it.

missyB1 · 05/06/2020 13:20

Most people where I live (a Gloucestershire town), are wearing masks.

bigchris · 05/06/2020 13:21

The second wave is like a wet dream to some people

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 05/06/2020 13:23

I went out the other day and was so surprised at the lack of masks. I was one of the very few people wearing them.

BirdieFriendReturns · 05/06/2020 13:25

I’m not wearing a mask - it’s not the law. I don’t laugh at people wearing one, just like I don’t expect to me mocked for not wearing one.

My asthma makes it difficult to wear a mask. Asthma attack and hospitalisation.

Alsohuman · 05/06/2020 13:30

I’m not wearing a mask and have noticed people who do seem to think they’re invincible and don’t need to social distance.

backinthebox · 05/06/2020 13:32

@VeganVeal And because masks dont really offer protection
AAAAAAAARGHHHHHHHH!!! Until we educate this out of everyone we are going to lag behind everywhere else in getting rid of Covid 19. When the OP wears a mask, she protects the people around her. In order for her to be protected, others around her need to wear masks. Wearing a mask is an altruistic measure - in order for them to work to protect anyone at all, the majority of people must wear them in order to prevent inadvertent transmission of Covid when they do not know they have it before they show symptoms.

The ignorant repetition “I’m not wearing a mask because it won’t protect me” is holding back a faster recovery for the country. The government foolishly allowed the perception that there is little point in wearing a mask because it does not protect the wearer to seep through our entire society purely because they had foolishly not kept in enough stocks for health workers in the event of a pandemic, and did not want the public taking stocks that medics would need. Countries where mask-wearing was enforced or adopted early on have avoided the explosion in the number of Covid cases the UK has struggled under. The British Medical Association is at a loss as to why we did not adopt it as a strategy sooner, and why, if we are to adopt in now, we are not making it happen until the 15th June.

allfalldown47 · 05/06/2020 13:32

I had that. I pulled it down and (from a distance) shouted 'more fool you mate, it's for your protection, I work in a school'
He looked panicked Grin

TimelyManor · 05/06/2020 13:32

I had a comment from an older man, why he felt the need to say something I don't know. Other people were wearing them, I wasn't the only one.

BigChocFrenzy · 05/06/2020 13:32

I've worn a mask / face covering In Germany for weeks, because it's the law (shops, public transport, taxis etc)

When it becomes law in the UK too, then reaction will change and it will become the new normal, to enable lockdown to be relaxed.

Kids here didn't stress when teachers wore masks,
because they had got used to seeing masks everywhere

NailsNeedDoing · 05/06/2020 13:33

Honestly, I think people look like twats when they are alone in a car and wearing a mask, it makes no sense. Out and about in public, fair enough.

But to actually question, and swear at a stranger for anything inoffensive that they’re wearing, then this bloke is clearly a twat all the time.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 05/06/2020 13:33

All the people thinking that if they make fun of the second wave it won't happen - it's a bit like a perverted reverse Tinkerbell or something.

Scotinengland76 · 05/06/2020 13:35

Why did you feel the need to say they are overweight? Are you insulting them by saying that? You must be otherwise you wouldn’t say it

Elouera · 05/06/2020 13:36

I'm confused. Is your mask a regular, plain type, or is there something funny/rude/scary on the front of it that makes people laugh??? Hmm

I'm in London, and maybe 30% of people are wearing masks just on the street, in supermarkets etc. I haven't seen anyone laughing at others or saying a thing. A bit weird to wear one in a car, just because someone has previously drive it though!

Tootletum · 05/06/2020 13:36

@Alsohuman yes I think that was the main reason it wasn't recommended initially. Apparently studies show people touch their faces more often with masks as they keep readjusting them. Bit like those magic gloves people do their shopping with, while they also answer their phone and wipe their noses. Still, maybe a minor help in asymptomatic/presymptomatic people not infecting anyone else.
