It's now mandatory to wear face mask on public transport with exceptions for disability, young children etc.
This should have been done ages ago.
They also admitting face masks offers some protection

Time to dig out the gimp mask?

More people using transport is rubbish, there was always a risk even with less users and they said they didn't do enough to prevent the infection spreading- how has this changed now?

@OnlyFoolsnMothers

Tbh I find the whole thing a joke, must wear a mask, must keep your kids off school, must stand 2 meters apart, mustn’t go into anyone’s house- but members of the cabinet, and the thousands upon thousands in Hyde park can do what the hell they like?!

Hahaha yes it’s hilarious isn’t it? I mean who could possibly manage to take a benign precaution whilst other people actively seek to endanger themselves and others.

I’ll tell you another ridiculous legislation, bloody seat belts, I mean wtf. Why should I have to constrain myself and child in a car. We should be free to move about in a moving vehicle if we want to. It’s not our problem if the police and paramedics have to extract our skulls from the dashboard.

I'm not wearing one and I don't care if I get fined or arrested.

@EnlightenedOwl
I'm with you on this. Hysteria all round. Completely out of proportion in my opinion.

So I'll be avoiding public transport and using my car - so much for environmental concerns - not to mention all the extra washing and discarded disposable face masks. So what if we fuck up the planet while we deal with this virus ...

No. You are factually incorrect.

Face coverings

From June 15th

Offer some protection for others.

But why now? Too late, like the quarantine for arrivals.
Anyone else get the impression of whelk stalls not being capable of being run?

@strugglingwithdeciding again, use your god damn common sense instead of just constantly invoking whiny whataboutism in order to avoid doing something you don't like. How many times per hour do you really need to take a drink? What 2 or 3 times?

So a whopping total of at most 30 seconds in an hour of your mask being down versus not wearing at all for a full hour? Which of those two situations actually makes sense to you? HINT: the first one makes more sense.

Get a grip.

Have the scientists completely boycotted the briefings now? I think tonight it would have been worth having one of them up there surely? There were a couple of questions that only they could answer.

GalesThisMorning · 04/06/2020 17:54

Really people - if you can't wear one for health reasons, physical or mental, dont wear them. No one will arrest you. If you need a drink have a quick drink and put it back on. Wash it when you get home. If you can't afford to buy a £2 scarf just cut up an old tshirt.

This does not need to be so hard. Millions of people around the world are doing it

The only reason for the delay is because there weren't enough for NHS staff.

Now Johnson will try to reduce social distancing, despite "the science".

My moderate asthma is currently well controlled but I struggle with a mask over my mouth and nose. It will vary a lot between asthmatics, however I am exempt from wearing one according to the Transport Sec.

Fortunately I can WFH and am expected to do so for many more months. I wouldn't fancy getting the train and tube to work as someone not wearing a mask as I'm sure there's a good chance someone would challenge me and be a dick about it!

"there will no doubt be an array of patterned and plain face coverings in all styles available for purchase at the public transport exit and entry points"
That will be good for the economy, surely?

@Pringletastic and other scientists say it may help , but the person wearing but others
That's the trouble we are still learning a lot , but I guess on crowded bus or train it makes sense, not so sure in a supermarket as generally have space between you etc and lots do struggle with them for various reasons
But I've seen people wear them then remove them to sneeze etc so or have them on incorrectly
Think they have introduced it more because people are shouting for it
( well some )

Finally following the actual empirical evidence. I’m very relieved about this one. Tired of the idiotic conformist “no masks please we’re British” schtick.

@Mascotte

But you'll need loads and a safe place to keep them once worn and to wash them correctly to disinfect. Nuts

No, you only need 1 or 2. I only have one fabric mask and just wash it when I come home for the rest of the day. It's dry by the next morning. All you need to wash / disinfect it is soap and water. I just fill the bathroom sink with hot water and detergent then toss the mask in there to soak for about 20 minutes or whenever I remember it. Before going to sleep I rinse it out and hang it up to dry in my bathroom. Easy, done.

All this handwringing is for nothing.

Unbelievable really, countries that have more recent experience of epidemics and have handled Cv far better than us, have used face masks for many years.
Talk about the horse has bolted! why wasn't this done at the first easing of lockdown? or even earlier but iguess that takes some foresight and planning.

European countries have been handing masks out to travellers at stations, think Spain provided 20m, the reason is to stop members of the public ordering FFP2/3 N95 masks.

@okiedokieme Spare a thought for NHS workers such as myself. As of this coming Monday, it is mandatory for us to wear masks at all times during working hours, unless eating or drinking. Everywhere we go, be it clinical area, corridor, or anywhere in the hospital grounds, we have to wear a mask. For me, that means that for the best part of 9 hours every day, 5 days per week, I'll be wearing a face mask.

Put worn ones in a plastic bag, wash when home. One for journey there, clean one for journey back.

@twinnywinny14 hardly rubbish that more people will be out when things open in 15th is it so people will be closer on trains buses andstations etc ans more people higher chance someone may have it
If I'm stood with 2 people or 10
They said there wasn't enough evidence at first and there still is mixed feelings on this look at above thread were someone found a scientist who says no
We are learning more all along
