there will no doubt be an array of patterned and plain face coverings in all styles available for purchase at the public transport exit and entry points:)

I wonder if visors would be an acceptable alternative?
Or maybe just go full hazmat/spacesuit?

@EnlightenedOwl dont be such a dramatist. How does putting a scarf round your face equate to the country being utterly done Hmm we do need to be slightly more resilient than that. Its mildly uncomfortable at the most. We can surely cope

How are you supposed to drink an M&S pre-mixed G&T through a mask?

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 04/06/2020 17:36

Eugh i so don’t want to do this, I hate having anything covering my face. We’ve also had months and months of conflicting reports on whether masks cause more harm or good

Of course we are done. Pandering to the hysteria was always going to take us down

I probably should pull my finger out and finish making them! Especially for ds1 who needs to use public transport for school and has never tolerated wearing masks/face coverings of any kind. He will have to practise!

@GreyGardens88 wear a scarf/bandana and use a bendy straw.

Okay then. Down you go. Glad you're not giving into any hysterical impulses on your way to rack and ruin.

How are people who suffer from medical conditions where they can’t wear a mask going to be able to prove this ?

There have been conflicting reports in the past which has led to research and it is now clear this is an important step in leading out of the pandemic, it is a small price to pay to get things moving again. I don't think it will be long before they are required in shops etc too as they are in many places in the world now.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 04/06/2020 17:42

Can they make the public wear one in shops if shop workers aren’t wearing them? I wouldn’t feel happy wearing one for hrs whilst I work.

About time too. I wear one every time I leave the house anyway.

He's autistic so has sensory issues with clothing full stop. I'm asthmatic and if my breathing is bad I too would struggle but I'd just have to not go on public transport on those days if need be.

And that’s exactly why it had to be mandatory and not advisory. Many people just don’t want to be mildly uncomfortable even if it saves lives.

@EnlightenedOwl

And the hysteria continues to rule. This country is utterly done

Well saying this country is utterly done is pretty hysterical.

Tbh I find the whole thing a joke, must wear a mask, must keep your kids off school, must stand 2 meters apart, mustn’t go into anyone’s house- but members of the cabinet, and the thousands upon thousands in Hyde park can do what the hell they like?!

I'm assuming there'll be more details later. I don't use public transport but will be waiting for details as I expect this will spread now.

@GreyGardens88 you can biy or make them can't ask fir something then expect it to be provided , although I think in some places they have been being handed out

If someone has such difficulty breathing, why would they be out and about on public transport at the risk of picking up COVID-19? So why exempt them from wearing a face covering if they choose to use public transport?

I have moderate asthma. Maybe if I waft my inhaler around I can avoid wearing a face covering too!

Fortunately, I won't be so thoughtless about the safety of others around me. I will wear one of the face coverings I bought in February.

It’s not hysteria, it’s proven to reduce the risk, something most other countries figured out ages ago but the brilliant British government went against the grain once again and now are doing a u-turn, why?

@EggysMom

To clarify. It will be mandatory to wear face-masks on public transport in England from 15 June.

(Don't know what Wales or Scotland are doing.)

the Scottish government started recommending wearing face coverings on public transport and in shops about three weeks ago...
