Are you still food shopping as infrequently as possible?

Just wondering really who is still keeping away from supermarkets?

I was going strictly only once a week and making dinner with whatever I had in. But before lockdown I'd go 2-3 times a week to top up.

Yes, still going as little as possible.

Reythemamajedi · 04/06/2020 17:06

Not so much. I go about twice a week. But we do have a stupidly small fridge.

megletthesecond · 04/06/2020 17:07

Yes. I do one collection a week. Not been in a supermarket since the start of March.

Pre covid I popped into supermarkets about five times a week.

TheThingWithFeathers · 04/06/2020 17:07

Yes. Try and go once a week.

nibdedibble · 04/06/2020 17:07

Yes, still going about once a fortnight to a supermarket, and getting top-up cool stuff from the local shop.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 04/06/2020 17:08

I don't have a big fridge either so go every 3 days or so.

WaffleCash · 04/06/2020 17:08

I am, but mainly to avoid spending half my life in queues than for any other reason

OhMsBeliever · 04/06/2020 17:08

I try to, I do a big shop once a week and usually a small top up from the local shop as well as there's 6 of us but not enough freezer room to fill it with bread/milk etc.

It suits me, I'm spending far less as I used to be bad at buying lunch rather than making lunch.

geojojo · 04/06/2020 17:08

I used to go almost daily. We are now mainly keeping it to once on a Saturday morning for a few reasons - mainly because I have two preschoolers with me all week so can't just go as and when with them due to the queues and the weirdness in the supermarkets at the moment but also because we have switched to one big shop from Aldi instead of lots of little shops from sainsburys and it's a lot cheaper.

Mrsjayy · 04/06/2020 17:10

We do a big monthly shop then milk bread bits and pieces top ups

FromDespairToHere · 04/06/2020 17:11

Yes, I'm doing a big shop by click and collect about once a fortnight, with maybe 2 or 3 trips for fresh fruit and veg in between. I'd normally pop to the shop most days on my way home from work and I can't wait to get back to doing that again but I'm just not comfortable with it atm.

Tulipstulips · 04/06/2020 17:12

I haven’t been inside a big supermarket since March, but DH has. Mostly we’re having deliveries or doing click and collect.

OfUselessBooks · 04/06/2020 17:13

I was trying to do two shops a month but it makes me spend more so I'm going back to weekly next pay day as it makes planning meals easier.

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 04/06/2020 17:13

Yes. We're getting a click and collect on a weekly basis and that's it. If they don't have something I've ordered, we just make do with what we've got.

I used to do a couple of top ups a week. If I was working from home I'd walk to the supermarket at lunchtime to get something nice for dinner, or pop to B&M to stock up on tins of tuna and other essentials!

There's only three of us though, and we have two fridge/freezers so plenty of space to keep things like bread and milk

PhantomErik · 04/06/2020 17:14

Still trying to only go once a week but would go for an extra trip if I thought it was necessary, not on a whim but not just for essentials if that makes sense.

dottiedodah · 04/06/2020 17:14

I normally go midweek for a nice big shop .At W/E, DH will go to our local small S/M for top ups . Actually prefer it now as quieter midweek!Used to go Saturday and it was very busy even before lockdown!

JassyRadlett · 04/06/2020 17:14

Yes, but mainly to avoid queuing. We have a once per week delivery and top up with fruit, veg and bread as needed.

I’ve got a lot more disciplined about shopping and eating from what we have in the cupboards, previously one of us would duck into the supermarket on the way home every second night....

SallyTim · 04/06/2020 17:17

All the scientists seem to be saying we still need to be very careful, so we are only going when it is really necessary.

GalesThisMorning · 04/06/2020 17:18

Yes. It's become a sad game I play by myself - can I stretch it any longer Grin. I'm aiming for 3 weeks now.

I have completely changed the way I get food and I really like it. Meat is delivered from the butcher, milk from the milkman, eggs from a neighbour, veg from a local farm's veg box scheme, flour and pulses from our village whole food co-op and wine and beer from a delivery service online. Pretty much only need the supermarkey for spirits, 36 pack crisps, fruit, baked beans, gummy bears and spirits.

My trolley is the trolley of shame...

WhiteChocTwix · 04/06/2020 17:20

Yes we've settled into doing one bigger shop once a week and that works well for us. (It's just me and DH though). I'm happy to pop to our local Waitrose ad-hoc if needed, but staying away from our big Tesco as the social distancing is diabolical.

Epigram · 04/06/2020 17:21

We get one click and collect every week and sometimes pop to the local shop for a top up in between.

Previously we'd be doing one big weekly shop (so that hasn't changed) and popping in a couple of times in between.

Iloveappleproducts · 04/06/2020 17:22

I've been three times since lockdown. I really cant be bothered with standing in a queue although I've found the actual shopping experiences are much nicer than before lockdown. I then shop locally in a small corner shop for milk when I'm at work

okiedokieme · 04/06/2020 17:22

As little as possible but that means 2-3 times a week because I shop on foot/bike

WhiteChocTwix · 04/06/2020 17:22

@GalesThisMorning

My trolley is the trolley of shame...

Grin I know just what you mean! The breaking glass when the recycling is emptied down our road is quite something since lockdown!

Merigoround · 04/06/2020 17:22

I buy more of some items each time I go and I go fewer times.
I hate queuing and also am unrealsonably annoyed both by those who do a huge avoidance circle round me and also those who are still using the pre covid social distance when queueing to pay. Basically Im annoyed by most things when it comes to shopping I supposed.

So ,yes ,much less and without it having much effect on me except for having more money to spend once the non essential shops open.
