Are you still food shopping as infrequently as possible?

Just wondering really who is still keeping away from supermarkets?

I was going strictly only once a week and making dinner with whatever I had in. But before lockdown I'd go 2-3 times a week to top up.

Almost every day.

ProfYaffle · 04/06/2020 18:35

We're not trying as hard as we were. It became a big job for one person to shop for enough food to feed a family for a week in one go. Dh and I now make one trip each per week and quite often top up from independent shops too.

CornedBeef451 · 04/06/2020 18:40

We still haven't been to a shop. We're using a mixture of online meat orders, fruit/veg deliveries and occasional supermarket delivery for tins etc.

I'm not sure what's next to be happening now. We're practically shielding but lots of people seem to have gone back to normal.

majesticallyawkward · 04/06/2020 18:41

Delivery once a week and a top up if needed, pre lockdown one of us would pop in to a shop 3/4 times a week.

Then there's my DGM who is supposed to be shielding but will go to 3/4 shops a day because she had to stay in for a while and is desperate to piss as much money up the wall as possible.... while moaning about other people getting in her way who shouldn't be out 🙄

SerendipitySunshine · 04/06/2020 18:43

Yes, once a fortnight.

SerendipitySunshine · 04/06/2020 18:44

But that's a delivery - we haven't been to a supermarket at all.

Theforest · 04/06/2020 18:45

Yes, we get a click and collect once a week. I used to go practically every day...

Drivingdownthe101 · 04/06/2020 18:49

Not sure anyone has ‘gone back to normal’. Schools are still closed to most pupils, many work places are still closed, non essential shops are still closed, playgrounds are closed, cinemas are closed, restaurants and cafes are closed, theatres are closed, zoos and farm parks are closed, softplays are closed, we’re not allowed to stay anywhere but our own houses overnight, we can’t go on holiday and it’s illegal to have other people in our houses.
Hard to go back to normal in those circumstances.

didireallysaythat · 04/06/2020 18:50

We have been getting an online shop every two weeks for 3-4 years and we're just carrying on like that. We've had milk delivered for the last 20 years and we now walk to the bakers once or twice a week. We are lucky. But our commutes didn't take us pass supermarkets and besides they were usually done in a rush to get to the after school club so the idea of popping into s supermarket every day is a bit alien.

Noworrieshere · 04/06/2020 18:51

I go whenever I want to now, at first I was really strict about going only for essentials. Went in the other day to buy the kids an ice lolly. Tomorrow I'm going to the big Sainsbury's near us just to have a look at all the things. It's like a day out. I could buy the 5 things I need from the local shop.

WanderingMilly · 04/06/2020 18:56

I used to pop in several times a week but since lockdown I just go once a week, and it's a small trolley full when I shop as I live on my own. I shall stick to once a week from now on, mostly because lockdown has made me dislike places full of people even more than I did before!

Oly4 · 04/06/2020 18:58

Yes, going only once a week

LovingLen · 04/06/2020 19:01

I get a delivery once a week and occasionally go into Waitrose, I mainly shop online and will continue to do so as I don’t want to queue so avoid shops now, much easier to have everything delivered.

Underhisi · 04/06/2020 19:02

Click and collect once a week and the occasional loaf of bread from a local shop. I haven't been in a supermarket since lockdown.

Lucienandjean · 04/06/2020 19:05

I'm getting a click and collect shop once a week, and that's working out fine so far. I've been to the corner shop twice since lockdown, once for bread when I found our loaf was mouldy, and once for milk when we ran out.

Prior to lockdown I was going to the supermarket twice a week, and to the corner shop frequently for chocolate Blush

ilovesooty · 04/06/2020 19:07

I have my milk delivered and have a fortnightly Asda delivery and occasional Iceland delivery which my next door neighbours have access to. I also share local delivery services with a friend who lives nearby for meat, fruit and vegetables. I won't be going back to any large supermarkets any time soon, if ever, because it's an unpleasant experience.

Flynn999 · 04/06/2020 19:12

I’m doing a main shop once a week and pop into our Sainsbury local to grab fresh fruit/milk/bread etc for D.C. once a week. I’ve started getting food delivered as well (only place I can get delivery from is Iceland). Our local supermarkets are looking as busy as they were pre covid, no social distancing, no common sense used. I used to do a weekly shop then would pop into shop maybe 3-4 times a week. I’m a lot better at making do with what I have. Also helping to save money which is a win win.

When I do go out for a walk and go past shops you can see people on a whole aren’t just doing ‘essential’ shopping any more. People nipping in for a bag of Haribo or parents nipping in for an ice cream.

MintyMabel · 04/06/2020 19:27

I haven’t been to a supermarket for weeks. We have a shop delivered every three weeks. That’s about the same as we used to do, but the bit where OH popped to the supermarket every few days has stopped. Partly because we are making sure the delivery includes everything and partly because we are far more efficient with food, and instead of deciding on Tuesday we’re having something that needs shopping, we are planning meals to use what we actually have in.

Diverseduvet · 04/06/2020 19:31

Haven't been to the supermarket since before lockdown.

TheGreatWave · 04/06/2020 19:33

One supermarket delivery a week and then perhaps an additional 2 or 3 times in the week.

Yesterday I did a town trip so the likes of Wilko, Poundland etc

ACautionaryTale · 04/06/2020 19:34

I go whenever I need to. Sometimes every day

theneverendinglaundry · 04/06/2020 19:34

No car and 3 kids means I am going at least 3 times a week whether I like it or not. Theres only so much i can fit in a granny trolley Grin

HelenaJustina · 04/06/2020 19:34

Yes. Family of 6 and we have been managing to go once a week. It gets trickier with fresh fruit towards the end of the week but DC have been tolerant so far!

Firef1y72 · 04/06/2020 19:38

I go shopping as little as possible, but there again I've always gone as little as possible, I hate shopping in supermarkets and find it incredibly stressful at the best of times. So I really haven't changed how I shop

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 04/06/2020 19:38

I go about two or three times a week as I don't have a car so have to carry it two miles home. I have never had to queue though, I've always just got straight in.
