Celebrations, party hats, picnics, hugs, kisses, groups of 10,20 etc crowds squashed in next to river swimming.

My goodness, we are in for quite some second wave.

Went to the beach today. It's 5 miles away! First time since before lockdown started. It wasn't that busy considering it's the 2nd best beach in my county. Everyone spaced well. Any 'groups' were well spread.
Prom easy to walk along and mostly social distancing.

Few arrogant fuckwits walking down the middle of the 3m wide prom and not moving over but few and far between and people just went onto the beach to avoid them.

Has anyone seen the news footage of the protestors at Trafalgar Square today? Social distancing? What social distancing?

ToffeeYoghurt · 31/05/2020 16:51

The utter irony of largely white middle class (I've seen the pictures) protestors mingling in a large gathering.

Black Lives Matter? Not when it comes to preventing the spread of Covid it seems... London has a large BAME community. Who have been worse affected by Covid. The last thing they need is idiots increasing the spread.

I wonder how many of these protesters are from London and how many travelled in. We've been told repeatedly to exercise caution over travelling to tourist spots. Perhaps the protestors will head off to UK beaches after their trip to London? From one tourist spot to another.

Aridane · 31/05/2020 20:27

At least they were doing something that matters and protesting 400 years of oppression and racism - unlike the crowds of huddled masses on the beach

Firef1y72 · 31/05/2020 20:28

@Binglebong

Seems at least one pub garden has reopened here. Obviously it was a single very large household that happen to live at the pub...
One of our local pubs is renting out it's garden, which I thought is a brilliant idea. Families that don't have a garden have a place where their children can run around without worrying the little ones are going to get close to other households, and the pub has a small income.

More cunts climbing Durdle door today. I despair.

I'm hoping the next week or so if bad weather will curb people's rush to get out and about.

Whilst I realise the opening of shops and take away food outlets etc is good for the economy and I obviously have sympathy for business - there's been so many crowds at beaches and open spaces and no social distancing, litter dumped everywhere and groups of 20/30 young people.

I think we lifted lockdown too soon and as it coincided with amazing weather people took advantage of the being outdoors.

If we have 7-10 days of rain/ poor weather I'd hope to see a almost reimposing of lockdown (because unless outdoors or work there's really no where to go) and really really hope it helps cut out R number and infection spread and rates.

I personally think the graphs show VE Day did have a clear affect on infection.

Sunshinegirl82 · 03/06/2020 17:10

Or people who would have sat in the garden sit inside instead?

I can’t get too stressed about people on the beach, it’s open, windy, no shared surfaces, seems a fairly low risk environment all round.

itsgettingweird · 03/06/2020 18:40

People on the beach doesn't bother me.

But what we've had is crowds walking g through towns and not social distancing. Rubbish left everywhere which we know is a transmission risk.
Groups of 20/30 young people all drinking and no social distancing.

Transmission may be lower but it's not eradicated. That's why track and trace asks about people closer than 2m.

Boris said tonight people shouldn't move indoors. But I wish he'd been more forceful and less blustering about it.

itsgettingweird · 03/06/2020 18:41

Walking through towns to beaches I meant. And to park spaces etc.

Drivingdownthe101 · 03/06/2020 19:18

Rubbish left everywhere which we know is a transmission risk

We actually dont know that. There hasn’t been a single proven case of someone picking it up from an object. We know that the virus can live on surfaces for up to 72 hours in lab conditions, but the general belief is that it won’t live in sufficient quantities to infect someone, especially outside. Sunlight has been proven to kill the virus in 10 minutes.
That’s by the by though, you’re right that leaving rubbish around is despicable behaviour.

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 03/06/2020 20:52

Sunliggts proven to kill it in 10 minutes. Really? So no need to social distance outside / we can just put shopping/hands etc outside for 10mins and all is okay??

Musicforsmorks · 03/06/2020 21:24

I ,Ive in. A tourist hotspot in the lakes.
Reports all over media that people are thronging here, roads packed, rubbish everywhere.

But this place has been dead, all week, through the sunshine, even.
There are more people going up the hilly roads on motorbikes, and a lot more dog shit on paths than usual, but no crowds, roads are almost empty - and I’m talking about the connecting road between Keswick and Windermere.

So I’m sure they’re around, but I haven’t seen them.

I do wonder if the press are making a meal out of some of it, except for durdle door 😳 of course.

According to a poll, the type of people who are littering and causing havoc are those who have never been to lakes before, so I’m assuming those who aren’t familiar with the pace of life here, the way it’s usually tidy and the tourists are usually really respectful.

I wonder why there’s so much aggression and litter - it’s like the visitors to beauty spots treat the places with contempt.
But it’s more likely those who aren’t at work, pissed all day long. They leave fires, barbecue equipment and piles of crap everywhere, according to the media.

Probably same people who used to call the unemployed scroungers....

itsgettingweird · 04/06/2020 16:09

I had heard it lives on stainless steel type services for 72 hours.

But regardless even if it's only 10 minutes. It still means if someone infected touches it and someone has contact within that timeframe there is a risk of transmission.

It's obviously lower than I thought - but I knew outside had a significant lower risk overall.
