Celebrations, party hats, picnics, hugs, kisses, groups of 10,20 etc crowds squashed in next to river swimming.

My goodness, we are in for quite some second wave.

My response was a bit....blunt, but my underlying point is that the average person's level of social interaction is still a million times lower now than it was in March and most of society remains shuttered or severely restricted. Portraying relatively low risk & minor-in-the-great-scheme-of-things increases in social interaction as The End of Lockdown!!! (drumroll) isn't accurate or useful. And as for the possible second wave, I think allowing people small scale low risk socialising now will actually make it easier to sustain social distancing longterm. Hard lockdown always had a very finite shelf life.

IgnoranceIsStrength · 30/05/2020 21:25

Lots of large groups by us. Canals, riverside and local parks (my dog walk is loooong). Many in groups of 10/20 plus. No social distancing in those groups

MynephewR · 30/05/2020 21:25

@Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese I was going to say about the police being out because of a planned party in my city tonight, maybe we live in the same city? Have been a couple of illegal raves with 300 people that the police had to break up in the last couple of weeks as well.

I'm not adverse to making your own risk assessments and bending the rules slightly but parties and large gatherings are just taking the piss. Its more about sticking it to the rules than anything else.

Durdle Door: Three seriously hurt 'jumping off cliff into sea'

Police closed the beach. The pictures they posted are something else

Anybody who was at Durdle Door today will no doubt be stressed about having got it.

cologne4711 · 30/05/2020 21:27

People still seem to be very cautious where I am.

Saw a video on Twitter of Clapham Common with lots of angry tweets about second waves etc - they were young, they were in small groups and in that part of London, very likely to be in house shares. I really can't get het up about it.

X-post. They were weren't they?
Karmatime · 30/05/2020 21:28

Lots of people out and about in parks and in the streets here but keeping their distance and in small groups. It was a lovely atmosphere and the vast majority were being really respectful and stepping aside to give each other space on pavements etc.

Peapod29 · 30/05/2020 21:28

Yep. South west here. I feel we’ve been thrown under the bus slightly. We’re the playground for the rest of the country and now have the highest r rate. So many visitors coming down to the coast. Last weekend the beaches were crowded with massive groups congregating, I dread to think what it was like this weekend. The region next to us is only just going through their peak now and have said they won’t open schools Monday. My dc are meant to be going back to school Monday and I’m very uneasy about it now. I think the policy around easing lockdown has been very London centric (As are most policies in the U.K.).

Inkpaperstars · 30/05/2020 21:29

I must admit for the first time tonight there is some kind of gathering here, not sure if a neighbour or just people gathered outside as I can't see it but can definitely hear it. It sounds like a very excitable crowd, sort of noise that at any time you'd think was Hmm. I live right next to a grassy space that attracts a lot of people so I guess this won't be the last time.

FeltCarrot · 30/05/2020 21:32

Was just about to post the Durdle Door pictures. They are truly shocking.

Binglebong · 30/05/2020 21:33

Seems at least one pub garden has reopened here. Obviously it was a single very large household that happen to live at the pub...

FeltCarrot · 30/05/2020 21:34

I live close to a beautiful NT Park. Apparently it’s been mayhem there, cars dumped on the grass verge, people feeding the deer and an 80 year old was knocked off his bike and killed.

LouLouLoo · 30/05/2020 21:35

I dog walk daily in local parks. Every day this week I have seen groups of teenagers sitting together (in some cases on each other laps). Usually between 8 and 12 of them.

WhiteChocTwix · 30/05/2020 21:35

I wish ppl would stay home. One of my best friends who lives 10 mins down the road is recovering from CV. She had to have a nap in the middle of us What's Apping this PM. Bloody good thing we didn't sneak round for a sneaky BBQ and a vino as they're our besties and 10 mins away so it'll be fine... 🤨

InFiveMins · 30/05/2020 21:35

It was packed with people today in Manchester.

Akrotiri1 · 30/05/2020 21:35

So glad we live in wales....very frustrating that we can't travel more than 5 miles, but having seen scenes from parks and beaches around England, feel a lot safer living in Wales.

Why, oh why, did Boris lift the travel restrictions so soon? Surely a compromise could have been had by saying people could travel within their own counties/health board areas?

Inkpaperstars · 30/05/2020 21:36

So there appears to be an overlap between the kinds of people who pile into crowded areas right now, and the kind of people who decide to jump off cliffs. Not unexpected.

lilgreen · 30/05/2020 21:37

I wouldn’t know, we haven’t done anything different apart from maybe extra exercise.Idiots.

Phifedean123 · 30/05/2020 21:38

Same where I am in Liverpool. One of the main local pubs has opened up for takeaway beer and now there's groups drinking in the streets, the park and on the beach. Police don't seem to care a bit either.

Musicforsmorks · 30/05/2020 21:39

I think if more people were at work, or kids at school, we would t be seeing such Groups, or beach crowds, etc.

I do think it’s odd that the situation seems to encourage mass groupings and boozing, etc, mostly due to sunshine, so like one giant holiday for many.

Unfortunate time of year to have a lockdown.

I know it’s been very hard for many of us, but I can’t get my head around why so many people are so darned desperate to camp in layby’s, or travel everywhere without toilets.
What are they seeking, and how great is it, really?

If you don’t have a garden, I can see why you’d want to get out to open spaces, but the sheer amount of people using lockdown and no schools as excuse for permanent holiday is increasing and will only get worse.

So stay-cations Might well be encouraged, but there are so many doing it that it won’t even be enjoyable.

Weird stuff.

Not Peterborough, is it?

PissOffStayAtHomeDogMum · 30/05/2020 21:40

Very quiet where I live (tourist place, normally so busy at this time of year that residents don't bother going out). I wish it weren't, though.

MadameMarie · 30/05/2020 21:41

What the hell were they thinking (judging by the pictures)?

Absolutely insane. What's wrong with people?

Jux · 30/05/2020 21:41

Devon. I've not seen anything particularly gobsmackingly stupid today, though I know that the local police are fighting a losing battle with campers etc.

Our NDN had their children and grandchildren over for a barbecue this afternoon, but that is the worst - I'm not sure that's even actually breaking the rules anyway. They did invite us too, but that would not have been OK so we just chatted for a moment or two as we went past.
