Celebrations, party hats, picnics, hugs, kisses, groups of 10,20 etc crowds squashed in next to river swimming.

My goodness, we are in for quite some second wave.

SW London busy. Large groups of people enjoying themselves. Bars open serving takeaway drinks, same with restaurants. I presume most of the over 65s and folks with underlying conditions are staying home. The rest of us need to get on with our lives. That said, I’m not socialising in groups but I can see why people are.

IndiaMay · 30/05/2020 23:45

Round here I'd say yes, people are out enjoying the weather but they're also social distancing. Park today there were couples sunbathing, solo people running/doing yoga, families paying football, I met a friend for a distanced picnic. People seem to assume if people are out they are breaking rules. We are allowed out!! Normally this weekend pub gardens would be packed and people would be throwing huge garden parties, weddings and christenings happening accross the country. That's not happening. We are still pretty locked down

Gotthetshirt23 · 30/05/2020 23:48

According to social media, one group of people thought it was a great idea to travel from Devon to Pembrokeshire.

There are beaches in Devon ! Angry

pontypridd · 30/05/2020 23:50

Honestly - I don't mind a bit of rule breaking. I haven't been one of those policing everyone throughout the lockdown. I've broken a few rules and followed my instincts ...

This is different. It wasn't people being out or even stretching the rules a bit. It was full on party/festival mode. I've never seen anything like it here before. It felt like a proper lockdown ending party.

@rainbowlou

I bet some people are wishing they hadn’t gone to Durdle Door today!
I was just thinking exactly the same.
ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 30/05/2020 23:59

DP went for a run on Clapham Common this evening. Said it was carnage. Huge groups 10-20 people hammered and rolling all over each other.

The government spends thousands on communication experts and has so totally fucked up the messaging. It's a national disgrace heading for a nations disaster

littlebillie · 31/05/2020 00:07

We also saw a beer garden open too...

MaMaLa321 · 31/05/2020 00:08

The problem is that part of the public are idiots. Lockdown can only work with the concensus of the public, and, if people are happy to behave like this, there's nothing that can stop them. We overlook a city harbourside, and it's been an allday party, and still going on.
They're not confused about the government's message, they're just dickheads.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 31/05/2020 00:25

Samtsirch

Are hedgehogs noisy shaggers, then? I've had badgers at it under my bedroom window in the early hours all week, & they're really noisy - very vocal!

crimsonlake · 31/05/2020 00:28

People decided lockdown around me in the North West was over some 3 weeks ago, for my neighbours it never existed. I am still following the rules, as are friends and family and feel as if I am living in a parellel universe

HeddaGarbled · 31/05/2020 00:38

Looks like some city centres are out of control, popular tourist beaches on the edge, everywhere else in the country still compliant?

MaMaLa321 · 31/05/2020 01:16

it is like a parallel universe. The thing is, the people that aren't social distancing are really obvious and, IMO, generally young. People like us, who do socially distance, are fairly invisible.

NC29 · 31/05/2020 01:29

SW London. lockdown is over. Pubs are full, and streets are full as well as the thames path. No way to go through parts where I have to physically touch others to move out of the way. All the benches, grass is full. no social distancing. Darwin at it's best.
and it really annoys me to get snide remarks about wearing a mask. It's my own business, so shut the hell up. (not that my mental health will suffer, it's more about wanting to explain, but can't be bothered to as they are at the IQ level of a pigeon probably, so not really worth it)

www.facebook.com/625783913/posts/10158484463433914/?d=n

That link is to FB where you can watch 3 short videos of Durdle Door before, during and after the incident - for those saying the photos are manipulated to make it look busy and that most people were spread out..

I live less than a mile from a Dorset beach and so far during lock down I have had 2 separate strangers knock on my door and offer me cash to park on my driveway for the day because the queues for the car parks are so heavy.

Kokeshi123 · 31/05/2020 01:56

OP, there will be no lockdown and no second wave.

We are looking at bumps along the road (small isolated breakouts) not another big curve upwards.

That's what has happened almost everywhere else.

Bakedbrie · 31/05/2020 02:15

@Samtsirch - awww cuuuute!! 🦔 🦔 💕

tobee · 31/05/2020 02:49

I just hope people will calm down after this weekend but I doubt it.

I'm near op and the weather forecast is sunny until Wednesday and Thursday but nice again after that.

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 31/05/2020 02:57

Durdle Dor is incredible. Apparently the roads from london down south were packed.

I guess the Gov says you can drive for say trips and its the first weekend, while also being sunny.... maybe once people got there they didnt want to go back/know of other local places ..?

But I was amazed it was so well known as a place to go.

SquirtleSquad · 31/05/2020 03:01

The council/police have shut the roads that lead to Lulworth and Durdle Door now.
Dorset council got a lot of backlash for allowing the car parks to be open there but they quickly pointed out that they are not council run and belong to the Lulworth Estate who were happily not closing them and still charging their £9.50 a day despite how busy they were last weeks and huge concerns raised by locals.
The only way they could stop people going is closing the access roads so it will be interesting to see how long it lasts and the reaction.

Kljnmw3459 · 31/05/2020 03:09

I've seen more people out and about round here, though nowhere close to normal levels of business in our little touristy town. Some attempt at social distancing mostly. Teenagers and young adults seem less obedient than others but that's hardly surprising.

Lovemusic33 · 31/05/2020 04:42

Yes, I'm angry that the car park was allowed to fill up at Durddle door, the car park is on a camp site and I'm guessing they have lost a lot of money due to being closed. It does cost around £10 to park so you can imagine how much money they took yesterday, I do hope they remain closed today but I think it's very unlikely.

I have been reasonably relaxed about Covid due to the low numbers here but now I am petrified, so far we have not lost loved ones, I only know of one death near by (I parent of a old friend) bit I fear this will now change. If they introduce locking down certain areas where the R number increases then we will be first to be back in lockdown. I can't take my kids out for exersise as it's so busy here, mainly people from London travelling here for the day, some are staying with relitives. People need to use their common sense and stop acting like idiots. Please stay away, I know you want to go to a beach and I know you want to enjoy the sun bit you are putting many people at risk, stay at home.

herecomesthsun · 31/05/2020 05:40

pontypridd do you live in our village? (south coast)

KatherineJaneway · 31/05/2020 07:00

What I don’t get is the people who turn up somewhere, see that it is clearly packed but continue to go there.

It's the 'well we're here now' mentality. They've taken time and effort to travel so are determined to make the most of it.

bouncydog · 31/05/2020 07:01

In Guernsey we’ve not had any new cases for 29 days and no active cases so lockdown ended yesterday. Our borders shut weeks ago and remain so. We went to a restaurant for dinner last night. Names and phone numbers have to be taken so if there is a further outbreak there is immediate contact tracing and isolation. People are now allowed to travel off island for non-essential travel provided they self-isolate for 14 days on return. Failure to do so is a fine of up to £10k. We’ve followed a similar strategy to New Zealand, which although frustrating has proven to have worked hopefully.

TheDrsDocMartens · 31/05/2020 07:05

@Musicforsmorks

In tourist areas I’m less worried about groups outdoors or camping - and more worried about queues in local, small supermarkets.

I live in south lakes, and I really don’t think 2nd home Owners are the issue at all. Day tippers leaving rubbish about and roads crammed so that emergency vehicles can’t pass are actually a concern.

Self catering and second homes are just not a worry to anyone.
I think people just like to blame them, yet those are Probably same people who Are on endless day trips.

Oh fuck this iPad keyboard.

Apparently High Dam was mentioned in the Times for Wild Swimming. It was heaving yesterday according to social media.
