what would you say you miss most about 'normal' times?
those small things perhaps, which we took for granted ....

aside from the obvious (seeing parents, not queuing, etc), what are the things you long to do again?

for me:
1/walking into a pub after a hike and being able to take a pee!
2/meeting people socially and randomly hugging them when saying goodbye.
3/planning and organising things at the drop of a hat: yoga class, bus ride to keswick on bored afternoon, driving lessons (i never learned to drive and promised myself i'd learn this year).
4/being able to moan about a cafe being too full!

Sitting in a coffee shop with a book, or even doing work.

Sparklingbrook · 28/05/2020 23:54

My brilliant work colleagues
The pub (and carvery)
Going out for breakfast
John Lewis

Wandering aimlessly around the shops.
I especially love spending ages at the bookstore and then treating myself to a sandwich or a dessert and a coffee.
I miss the library.

ParkheadParadise · 29/05/2020 00:02

Going out for breakfast with my sister's / friends/ niece's.
Dropping dd at nursery and going to a friends house.
Meeting DH after work and going out for dinner.
Going away for the weekend.
Spending hours in the shopping centre.

Musicforsmorks · 29/05/2020 00:06

A lot of these really are about just being able to do the simple things. Things I dare say we never thought would be challenged or be unavailable to us outside of personal illness, etc.

Excluding friends and family (they are top.of the list); swimming pools, restaurants and cafes, the library, play areas being open and just being able to wonder round some shops. Toddler and baby classes too.

Timinfuckingruislip · 29/05/2020 00:07

Oddly I miss browsing supermarkets. Didn’t really even realise that I did it until I couldn’t.

mylittlesandwich · 29/05/2020 00:08

Me and my mum used to regularly mooch about the shops and go for a coffee and now that I have DS it was nice to get some time out of the house and go that. That's what I miss.

DrFoxtrot · 29/05/2020 00:09

Kissing my boyfriend legally.

I'm beginning to sound like a broken record Grin.

magicmallow · 29/05/2020 00:09

swimming
sauna
gym
hanging out with people

DrFoxtrot · 29/05/2020 00:10

Sorry you asked for 'aside from the obvious' 🙈 I can't get past the obvious!

Although I am missing McDonalds. And live music.

B1rdbra1n · 29/05/2020 00:12

God love the Chinese chippy😊

B1rdbra1n · 29/05/2020 00:13

All the nice things☹️and the sense of freedom
🤔 Not that it felt like freedom at the time but ...in hindsight 🤷🏼‍♀️

raviolidreaming · 29/05/2020 00:14

parkrun
going on trains

Sittingontheveranda · 29/05/2020 00:18

The hair salon. I’m aware I sound completely superficial but I was due an appt before lockdown and now I can see so many grey strands in the mirror!

Timeoutmarket · 29/05/2020 00:18

OP, you must live near me, as I also miss 1 and 3 of your points!

For me, it's:

Being in a good pub or bar with DP and a group of friends on a Saturday night - especially if we're listening to a local singer.
Spontaneously walking into town on an evening and spending a night out with DP, friends or family.
Exercise classes.
A night or weekend away.
Live music.
Going with my dad to the match.
Dropping in to my mum and dad's for a coffee on the way home from work.

Musicforsmorks · 29/05/2020 00:20

I miss trains too, always moaned about them, haha.

There were a bunch of things I was about to do - driving, take on some extra work, volunteering, Pilates.
All on hold.

I’m an introvert and love personal space, being alone to recharge, etc.
But now think that glass hath overflown and spilled out all over the floor 😁

Getting my DS up and out of the door on time for school. Having his dinner cooking ready for when he walked in from school, then asking him about his day and listening to his random stories of his day at school, before he then runs off up to his room to play on his PC.

Bramblebear92 · 29/05/2020 00:35

Everything other than my commute and lack of sleep really Grin

Seeing friends non-socially distanced
Having things to look forward to
Browsing book shops
Going for a coffee
Pubs/restaurants
Theatre
Petting stranger's dogs (as far as I know dogs are not corona carriers, but I somehow feel it would be frowned upon). Shock

Musicforsmorks · 29/05/2020 00:49

Book shops......places where you can’t rush, but if there were queues I’d feel so rushed browsing. I wonder how the small ones will go about opening up.
