The DEATH TOLL was 412 today. Not new cases. Yes, I know someone that died yesterday of it, a healthcare worker, wonderful man, healthy but BAME so more at risk Sad.

Derbygerbil · 27/05/2020 18:01

412 new deaths... 2,013 new confirmed cases.

Higher number than previous days would be due to delayed registrations over bank holiday weekend. There’s usually a high blip on Tuesdays, but Wednesday as BH Monday.

NameChange84 · 27/05/2020 18:03

I also know 2 other people from my hometown who died of it, another BAME healthcare worker and a resident in a care home. Every week around 3 people from my church community die from it, it’s always announced in the weekly online service.

slipperywhensparticus · 27/05/2020 18:04

Yes but its Wednesday snd there was trouble with the reporting last week and over the bank holiday

Worry if it continues to climb again

DominaShantotto · 27/05/2020 18:10

Tuesdays are always high because of the delay in reporting over the weekend. This week we had a Bank Holiday Monday (never pull that Bank Holiday Friday shit and confuse me ever again) and so this is like a delayed action Tuesday spike but with an added day of weekend reporting lag factored in as well.

Worry if it carries on climbing but if you look at the graphs it always drops right down for the weekend and then gets everyone worrying as it catches up again by Tuesday usually. That's why they do the 7 day rolling average overlaid little yellowy orange line - watch the general direction of that one.

wheresmymojo · 27/05/2020 18:12

I live in a small village in Hampshire - 3 people have died here including someone who died recently (she had been in hospital for a month).

I also know one other person that has died which is a friend's sister.

43 year old mother of three Sad

wheresmymojo · 27/05/2020 18:14

Oh and don't know them but an ex-colleague's mother died quite early on.

majesticallyawkward · 27/05/2020 18:14

Deaths and new, confirmed cases are not the same thing. Any spike in now cases takes at least 2 weeks to show in deaths.

As for where they are, the UK is a fairly large area. Less than 40,000 deaths out of a population of 66.6m is a fairly small percentage so not impossible you don't know anyone personally.

Of course it's a lot of deaths and they are tragic especially for the grieving families, but it's a relatively small percentage of the population.

ClassicCola · 27/05/2020 18:15

Numbers are always higher after the weekend. It wa a bank holiday weekend.

reesewithoutaspoon · 27/05/2020 18:23

ye my nan died of it. I work with a colleague who has lost 3 male relatives to it.

granadagirl · 27/05/2020 18:27

I just thought it would be interesting in what areas of uk the deaths are in. As I said I don’t know off any in my area

I know it quite a small portion in the whole of uk.
Id like to know how many deaths of covid in day a city as say Manchester or even your town.

DogInATent · 27/05/2020 18:28

Reporting delays. Deaths aren't registered over the weekend or on Bank Holidays, so there's a catch-up the second/third day of the working week.

Surely you've noticed the regularly uppy-downy pattern on the mortality graphs they show? How there's a series of regular clusters along the overall curve.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 27/05/2020 18:29

Our health board today has reported of another 2 staff members who have died from this.
Both in the BAME group.
Both highly valued members of staff.

Lockheart · 27/05/2020 18:29

You can download quite a lot of datasets from the ONS if you want, that might tell you.

Yes, I know 3 people who have lost family members to it.

And 3 more friends of friends.

No way do I think we should be easing lockdown for social and frivolous purposes.

Save the community for school and work. Not BBQs.

RunningNinja79 · 27/05/2020 18:31

These are just what is reported in the last 24 hours. Some of these deaths occurred weeks ago. Most of the deaths that occurred yesterday wont be reported yet. Plus as discussed before, its always high after a weekend, usually a Tuesday, but with it being a bank holiday it is Wednesday this week.

gigglingHyena · 27/05/2020 18:32

The BBC website has a search for cases in your area, linked from loads if pages. I don't know often it gets updated though.

Chloemol · 27/05/2020 18:32

Try this

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51768274

The link to see how many in your area is about halfway down

recycledteenager24 · 27/05/2020 18:34

it'll be interesting over the next few days and weeks (narrows eyes at the 1000's of covid proof idiots, breaking lockdown on crowded beaches etc)

Al1Langdownthecleghole · 27/05/2020 18:35

My DM died early on.

Every one of the thirty-seven thousand, four hundred and sixty people who have died in the UK who have died so far will have had families and friends who loved them.

Every one of the thirty-seven thousand, four hundred and sixty people who have died in the UK who have died so far will have had their lives shortened, by days, weeks, months or years.

Many of the thirty-seven thousand, four hundred and sixty people who have died in the UK who have died so far will have had Died away from their loved ones who were robbed of the chance to say goodbye.

The numbers don’t tell the stories of people’s lives.

antisocialdistance · 27/05/2020 18:36

@Wheninrometoday

You think the reporting of death rates in the regions you name is accurate?

NettleTea · 27/05/2020 18:39

yes my mother in law is dead. too fucking soon.
I am trying to organise a funeral that barely anyone can come to.
And feeling particularly heartbroken today after a week of being in the 'lets get the practicalities done'
we cant even send clothes for her because she is wrapped in a body bag. Its awful

FliesandPies · 27/05/2020 18:41

another 412 souls, my god Sad

But Matt Hancock will remember them all, apparently, even though he has defended the indefensible actions of Cummings.

NettleTea · 27/05/2020 18:42

we sent our final words to her, to have them read by a stranger.
you should have seen what my two children wrote to her, they loved her so much.
Im feeling absolutely broken today. Sitting in her garden looking at the roses coming out up the side of her house, which we will cut to make the floral tributes with on Sunday as a family.
