... about Dominic Cummings, but in the mean time how about I distract you with some shopping?

I mean you couldn’t make it up, could you? I think irresponsible policy will be the legacy of this current government.

OP posts:

@MeganBacon I think enough is enough and it needs to stop now. Couldn't agree more, if Dominic Cummings resigns now it will all be over and done with and we can all get on with what needs to be done. It is unreasonable for him to be allowed to carry on simply because it is taking people's attention from big issues. The solution is with him or his boss.

Ulver · 26/05/2020 09:44

MeganBacon

Are you denying that Cummings have the contract for the track and Trace app to his sisters company?

Mumratheevergiving · 26/05/2020 09:45

Well if I was undecided before Boris and Dominic helped make my mind up! No apologies, no understanding of sacrifices people have made within their own families as we fought our own instincts for the good of the public, not a word of reproach for breaking the rules. Pure entitlement that has made a mockery of all our efforts. No I can't sympathise that you ran round the country putting health care workers in the North East at a risk they would not otherwise have encountered. They've lied about police involvement and are making it harder than ever for the police to enforce lockdown rules.as always public services bear the brunt of this and the Teflon men carry on regardless. I hope everyone lets their MP know that the conduct of this Government is unacceptable to the public during a period of national crisis.

Somerville · 26/05/2020 09:46

Exactly. Cummings can quit and I’ll never mention it again.

Whilst he stays in post he’s undermining the life saving public health messaging so there remains a lot to discuss.

MeganBacon · 26/05/2020 09:48

I would say that I'm happy to consider evidence. Except it's pointless because the issue the country faces is getting out of this mess, so energy is better spent being positive about that. So basically, I'm really not interested any more - everyone should cast their vote accordingly at the next election.

1forsorrow · 26/05/2020 09:49

It worries me that this man is saying he makes many decisions about what to "bother" Johnson with. Johnson is the PM he should be bothered. What is he making decisions about, surely he is there to advise not as a decision maker?

It also worries me that as a brilliant adviser and strategist it didn't occur to him to look for solutions in London and that he thought a good way to test his eyesight was to take him child on a 60 minute drive. That is the most idiotic decision I've ever heard. I'm not sure which is worse, that was his real thinking or that he made it up and thinks we should accept that was good.

He really needs to go.

1forsorrow · 26/05/2020 09:51

MeganBacon the next election might be too late for many people if he is making the decisions. How many more need to die before someone in govt gets a grip.

How much of the decision making this week been to try and distract us from Dominic Cummings. Are children being sent back to school next week to cover for him?

TooGood2BeTrue · 26/05/2020 09:53

I agree with you OP. But those who voted Tory in the last election only have themselves to blame.

ptumbi · 26/05/2020 09:54

I just wonder why it all came out now? Why now, 2 months after the event?

What else are they hiding?

Covid seems to have been a very convenient smokescreen to 'hide bad news'. Why now? Is DC going to be thrown to the wolves (Please god) or is he a decoy for distraction?

Ulver · 26/05/2020 09:55

I don’t think Boris will wake up until there are riots and widespread public disorder.
When people start getting into crowded public transport and shopping areas and start coughing all over each other things can escalate pretty quickly.
I think Boris is sleepwalking through this crisis and Cummings has just taken over.
That line he gave where “The PMs time is the most precious resource and we must protect it” ( at any cost) was fing creepy.

It’s obviously what he says to Boris to keep him in his ivory tower and ignorant of Cummings scheming.

MeganBacon · 26/05/2020 10:01

Seriously you think people will crowd into shopping areas and cough over each other just because DC went to Durham? Can these people not think for themselves?

Ulver · 26/05/2020 10:08

People will not follow advice given by someone who does not set an example and is breaking their own rules.
Lying about the polices statement undermines their authority and ability to maintain public order.
The police commissioner discussed this and asked for an investigation to resolve it.
It makes it hard for the police to justify crowd control etc if bullshit excuses are endorsed by the govt.

MeganBacon · 26/05/2020 10:15

You are talking as if everyone has a death wish. Government guidance is always based on the assumption that people have common sense.

And anyway, DC did not hang round in groups coughing on people so why should even the sheep-like do that?

Ulver · 26/05/2020 10:19

MeganBacon

It’s seems that not only is acting obtuse and dense a Boris tactic, it’s also One for Cummings and His minions.

Undermining govt policy and undermining police authority and undermining public confidence and undermining public good Will and compliance
IN A NATIONAL CRISIS

can and will lead to public disorder imo

Ulver · 26/05/2020 10:23

Maybe I should do a compilation tweet of all the comments on mumsnet this morning using the phrase “move on”???

ZombieFan

Lets just move on, we have much more to worry about than the child care arrangements of some political adviser.

There are so many.

MarginalGain · 26/05/2020 10:40

In the meantime this has become a mind numbingly, cringeworthy story that has shown social media (for it's promotion of incorrect facts e.g. the autism question) and actual media (for the fiasco yesterday) in a very bad light and there is a lot of work to do to rebuild the economy which is the real focus. I think enough is enough and it needs to stop now.

While this is all true, it is also perfectly predictable.

i think it's shown the fucking government in a worse light tbh

so let's just shush it away and let them crack onHmm

Resign then. Specially if you want anyone to hand over all their data on the Track and trace Covid App that you GAVE The contract TO YOUR SISTER

Ulver · 26/05/2020 11:04

Cummings being a bare faced liar while expecting everyone to upload an app He contracted to his sister that harvests all of your phone data?

Extremely bad timing.

StrawberryJam200 · 26/05/2020 11:08

Alice Cummings is not (as far as I can see) Dominic's sister, she went to a state school in London according to LinkedIn, which is difficult to do when your parents live in Durham. Apparently his sister is called Francesca.

MarginalGain · 26/05/2020 11:09

Ulver I don't disagree with you. I'm pointing out the problem with the standard Cummings defense.

MeganBacon · 26/05/2020 11:16

Ulver, this sounds like an invitation for you to verify the rumours you have printed above?

MakingASilkPurse · 26/05/2020 11:16

little jalapeno A lot of what he's been accused of is fair enough but I don't think he's been Literally dipping turds in glitter and serving them up to the public 😄

1forsorrow · 26/05/2020 11:27

You are talking as if everyone has a death wish. Government guidance is always based on the assumption that people have common sense. Shame Cummings didn't have any isn't it, I mean in the Idiot's Guide to Common Sense there isn't a chapter on testing your dodgy eyesight by taking your 4 year old for a 60 minute drive.

Sunshiney1981 · 26/05/2020 12:02

They must think we the public are stooopid!
That we are so easily sold lies. Oh hang on a minute a lot of people are.
Hilarious that someone is trying to defend them but I guess even the most hardened criminals are entitled to a defence lawyer.
