Voluntary at first, but they may make it madatory...

They really want us to give all our data to the mates of Cummings.

itsgettingweird · 27/05/2020 17:56

Please tell me the app is optional?

I can ignore emails. And if people ring who I don't know I always ask who it is and if I've not given my number respectfully tell them to hang up and remove my number from their data.

quiteathome · 27/05/2020 17:56

I don't know how to express my feelings of rage and despair

Ipadipod · 27/05/2020 17:56

I saw a friend post on fb asking anyone who is going to download the app to remove her number from their contact list beforehand. I wonder how many will use the app ?

WoollyMollyMonkey · 27/05/2020 17:56

I hope there some good questions coming up! Hancock could have another tantrum.

AlovelybitofsquirrelJackie · 27/05/2020 17:56

And promising me I can go to the hairdresser if I do my civic duty isn't working. I'm over the worst if it now, I'm looking much better now I'm past the ragged sheep stage. My kids are quite happy looking like the Beatles in their hippy phase

Ipadipod · 27/05/2020 17:58

Can our details be accessed by being a contact of someone who has downloaded the app ?

WoollyMollyMonkey · 27/05/2020 17:58

Haha haha tracers have had training. I bet they’ve watched a PowerPoint.

CarolynMartens · 27/05/2020 17:58

They could at least add on the end “whatever you do, DON’T go to Durham.”

GrimmsFairytales · 27/05/2020 17:58

@Ipadipod

Can our details be accessed by being a contact of someone who has downloaded the app ?
I would think so. Asking permissions to access your contacts is a common feature of apps.

Catching up - wow he used to get 30k for one speech. And thinks UC is generous!?!?

SouthWestmom · 27/05/2020 18:00

This is absolute bollocks. Especially the 'threat' of not being able to see friends/family if we dont do it.

However, what will be interesting is to see the data.
Will lower "class" areas be isolated more than the upper "class " areas?
I suspect I already know the answer.

(Sorry to use this language of "class", I cant think what the correct terminology is)

JackiFazaki · 27/05/2020 18:01

This is now a total shambles.

SouthWestmom · 27/05/2020 18:01

I'm not answering my phone or clicking emails . I'm not spending two more weeks locked up just as schools open

@GrimmsFairytales so even if we don’t give permission anyone who has my number in their contacts is effectively sharing my details ? ( I’m not tech savvy)

greenlynx · 27/05/2020 18:02

Thank you to PPs who mentioned that it would be live on TV, I didn’t know this.

I’m even more suspicious about the app now. Our family will stick to old fashioned methods like washing hands and staying at home as much as possible. You could be asked to isolate 4 times and 2 months will be gone. And I suspect they will put some measures in place to make isolation compulsory.

AlabamaArkansas · 27/05/2020 18:04

Where even is the app?!

SouthWestmom · 27/05/2020 18:05

I don't know but I'm going to put my phone on airplane mode when out for now

There's the potential for this, yes.

PurplePansy05 · 27/05/2020 18:05

I'm changing my phone to a brick phone, thank you very much.

Spotsonmyapples · 27/05/2020 18:07

The guardian:

Attempting to defuse public anger, Robert Jenrick, the communities secretary, said on Tuesday that anyone could do the same as Cummings in similar circumstances, even though his actions have provoked uproar, with polls suggesting that the majority of people believe he should resign.

“If there are no other options, if you don’t have ready access to childcare, then you can do as Dominic Cummings chose to do,” he told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme.

But but (I splutter) parents are childcare. That child had both his parents. If you are unable to look after your child (not just in case) then yes seek help by having a well person come to you to help or collect child or go through community hubs etc. Do they really only think the ability to look after a child is with formal childcare arrangements?!
DC didn't even need the emergency childcare so he clearly made the wrong call and it would be wrong for sick people to move around the country on this premise.
They did nothing in Durham they couldn't have done in London apart from have conversations with his family, walk in the private woods, go for a jolly oh and use ambulance and hospital resources out of their local area.
Deep breaths

Fiderer · 27/05/2020 18:09

I can't get over the introduction of test & trace in the UK. Now.

I'm in Germany. My daughter was at the GP on Weds Feb 26th. I got a call on the following Monday from our local health authority telling me that as a patient at the GP had tested positive for Covid 19, my daughter would have to quarantine for 14 days dating from the 26th. I also informed her school (as she'd been in 3 days) who informed all parents in her class so that her classmates had the choice to also self-isolate.

It would prob be quicker now but earlyish days then and at the time the health authorities weren't working at the weekend.

Everyone in the household was offered a test if we developed symptoms. And they would come to our house to do it.

That was 3 months ago.

Roussette · 27/05/2020 18:09

The thing is... we don't know if DC and wife actually had it.. they did not tests.
And.. according to her Spectator article, they were not both ill at the same time.
They looked after their child up in Durham. They could've done that in London.
He wanted a couple of weeks up on a country estate away from virus ridden London 'just in case'
THAT is what is so annoying to me.

PurplePansy05 · 27/05/2020 18:11

Done, my brick phone is arriving on 1 June.
