Thread three for following the uproar at playing down the lock down and rewriting the rules.

Plus, the rules were (and are) that if anyone in the household shows symptoms, the household isolates for 14 days.

So:

They travelled at the weekend, apparently, so 31st. Cummings wasn’t ill at that point, else he’d have been lying doggo. So ill after that. Whole family had to isolate for 14 days after someone showed symptoms - assume that’s Mary on 27ish? So they broke lockdown and travelled while she was ill, and should have been self isolating. If Cummings wasn’t ill until after they travelled, how come he was fine by 5 April, especially since he was struggling to breathe for 10 days from after travelling. He couldn’t have been ill before that, as he swiftly declined, apparently, and this wouldn’t have been able to travel (didn’t move from his sickbed according Mary).

Whole thing is a pile of bollocks.

StealthPolarBear · 25/05/2020 10:55

Unless "lying doggo" is posh speak for "doing his best dancing queen"

NudgeUnit · 25/05/2020 10:55

Tbh, I think the Spectator should sack Mary Wakefield as well. Her journalistic integrity is completely undermined by this.

SouthWestmom · 25/05/2020 10:55

DC does not give a fuck what we think.

Turns up at Downing Street in day two to shirt and tracksuit, tells Reporters he doesn't care what it looks like. Gets the MPs to parrot support and cba to set the record straight.

Is anyone else finding the Gov aderts about stay at home and all of that... infuriating.
I am.
They are really pissing me off this morning

Roussette · 25/05/2020 11:04

Interesting reading Mary Wakefield's wiki page
Daughter of Sir Humphrey Wakefield, grew up in Chillingham Castle, been at the Spectator for yonks right back when Boris was Editor. And this...
In 2015, following an online petition, Wakefield was forced to apologise and amend an article she had written for The Spectator in which she described an 18 year old who had recently died in a moped crash as a "thuggish white lad"

Says it all really

LarkDescending · 25/05/2020 11:08

I wouldn’t put it past them to draw up some caveat about childcare & backdating it in the hope nobody notices.

Rewriting history in other words.

LarkDescending · 25/05/2020 11:10

*my grammar is all over the place this morning

SabrinaThwaite · 25/05/2020 11:20

Betting odds are shortening slightly on Johnson getting the push from PM in 2020. 4/1 yesterday, today it’s 7/2.

YogaLite · 25/05/2020 11:21

No one will get sacked, they are living or have been living in each others pockets.

Government change is needed to get them out.

MillicentMartha · 25/05/2020 11:28

I’ve now read Wakefield’s article in the Spectator. She describes their child as dressing up in a doctor’s outfit and using Ribena in a syringe as pretend medicine to pretend to inject his dad. He’s not quite 4. That sort of representational and imaginative play really does not sound like a child with autism. He also commented to his dad later on that ‘Mummy is playing.’ For a child to be diagnosed with that level of very high functioning autism before the age of 7-8 is extremely unusual! Just look on the SN boards. I’m not saying he isn’t autistic, because autism can be very different from child to child, just that it all sounds very fishy.

I am the parent of a now 20 yo DS with ASD, by the way.

Schrodingerspeanutbuttersandw · 25/05/2020 11:30

BJ either needs to apologise for the behaviour of DC for breaking the rules and undermining a Public Health message which could result in increased suffering and death.
Or he needs to apologise for being so incompetent that he led the whole country to believe they couldn't seek childcare before becoming incapacitated just in case, leaving thousands to be scared and suffer through extremely difficult situations unecessarily.
The rules were either broken or were so misleading as to be unacceptable.
I don't see another option.

LarkDescending · 25/05/2020 11:30

Another Tory MP - Peter Aldous - has changed his position after reading his inbox. Now calling for Cummings to “stand down”. Those emails really work.

B1rdbra1n · 25/05/2020 11:33

Any further explanations or justification will be blown out of the water by further leaks from press about what really happened
I expect they are lined up and ready to go

GrimmsFairytales · 25/05/2020 11:33

It's heartening to hear of an MP who listens the view of their constituents, even if it goes against what they believe. Good on him.

SouthWestmom · 25/05/2020 11:34

18 Tory MPs now publicly calling for his resignation. I imagine there's safety in numbers.

I think at the review of lockdown they'll have to allow family to see each other somehow. I just don't see how they can get away with not doing so now. Maybe this will put a pin in people's anger and it will fade away but it should be remembered.

B1rdbra1n · 25/05/2020 11:35

I think DC is like trump in that he will refuse to accept any criticism

if Boris does anything other than cover up for DC then Boris will be punished, just like trump punishes anyone who makes him look bad

If there's a bright side we can take from this, it's that we now have a Prime minister called BJ that is embroiled in #Cumgate. That's it though, that's the only good thing.

I hope they have CCTV and photographic evidence.

SabrinaThwaite · 25/05/2020 11:36

I’ve emailed my MP twice, and copied Sir Graham Brady (as chair if the 1922 Committee) in on the second one too. My MP is a Junior Minister that didn’t join in the Cummings love bombing at the weekend, but she’s ambitious so won’t want to rock the boat.

janet1267 · 25/05/2020 11:36

My Conservative MP has listened to his constituents and today on his Facebook page has said that Cummings should go.

SabrinaThwaite · 25/05/2020 11:37

Oh, and here’s a copy of Johnson’s letter to every household from March 28th telling us that we must stay at home.
