Yes I wonder if he is scared of him. He looked scared didn't he, very jittery.

Poor Boris got what he wanted, I wonder if he wants it now.

MadameMarie · 24/05/2020 17:59

The beginning of the end for the Tories. Going to be a long, hard 4 years until the next election a bit like the early 90s.

MarshaBradyo · 24/05/2020 17:59

He’s not scared of him. He just doesn’t know what to say without him.

KenDodd · 24/05/2020 18:00

I’m furious! I’ve signed the petition already

As have I, and written to my MP. Thing is, every person in the country could sign that petition and it will make bugger all difference, BJ and DC know this. We are four years to an election, loads of time for the Tory press to rally round the lies.

effingterrified · 24/05/2020 18:00

Whatever you do, DO NOT break lockdown now just out of fury that Cummings is a selfish, hypocritical, lying shit and Johnson is a lying, cowardly shit.

That is exactly what they want you to do.

They want a nice big massive second wave which they can then blame on you for not following the guidelines properly.

Basically, the government isn't going to look after you or your elderly parents. So we need to look after ourselves and our families, ourselves.

That means NOT going up visit elderly parents if you could be infectious. Unlike Cummings, who clearly cares for his own parents no more than he cares for old people in general, we should be making sure we continue to shield our vulnerable elderly.

Remember, two wrongs don't make a right. Just because Cummings is a twat, don't be a twat yourself.

quiteathome · 24/05/2020 18:02

@effingterrified I agree with you

MadameMarie · 24/05/2020 18:02

The last 10 years has been an absolute shit show under this lot.

buttersidedown · 24/05/2020 18:02

I am so so furious about this! I genuinely believe Boris has just committed political suicide. I have e-mailed my MP. Genuinely don’t know what else to say. I feel like I could cry, and feel so let down by the government.

TopperSail · 24/05/2020 18:02

Thank you Listeningquietly I'm going to email my Con MP again.
Thought Sarah Jones Shadow Policing Minister on BBC news channel 5.52pm was excellent in expressing how we are feeling on this.

Nordicwannabe · 24/05/2020 18:02

Is this intentional? It will lead to the mass abandoning of lockdown as it's farcical and they can get the economy going again whilst never having really made the decision

I've wondered for a while whether the poor messaging has been intended to get people gradually breaking lockdown without the government actually saying so (and hence being held accountable).

This would be a dangerous gamble though.

If the numbers start going up too fast, then reduced compliance due to poor messaging could be improved with a strong appeal to the public. But this scandal erodes trust so much that I'm not sure the government will be able to get people back on-side.

DC may well end up being responsible for thousands of deaths. Not that I think he'd admit to himself it was his fault. Arrogant git. Makes me sick.

B1rdbra1n · 24/05/2020 18:02

Just because Cummings is a twat, don't be a twat yourself
good point, lets not shoot ourselves in the feet!

MadameMarie · 24/05/2020 18:06

I do think most people have abided by lockdown, Cummings is part of a minority who think rules don't apply to them.

From now though a lot of people will just think 'fuck it' especially regarding seeing friends and family.

@1984in2019 thank for the link.

Nordicwannabe · 24/05/2020 18:08

I wonder whether they will blame the inevitable spike in deaths in a few weeks time on schools re-opening instead of this?

minou123 · 24/05/2020 18:08

What really upsets me when they all say "he followed the instincts of every father/parent"

I'm 38, I had covid 19 symptoms and self isolated in my own home, by myself. My dad was so upset and rang me regularly to check on me.
Is Boris and co saying my dad isnt fatherly enough or is a bad dad because he didn't insist I drive over to his house and self isolate in his house?

Admittedly I'm not 4 years old and dont need childcare, but I'm still a daughter to my dad.
I'm I alone in thinking this?

Music101 · 24/05/2020 18:09

Is that tweet really from the civil service is this what they do tweet stuff and then delete it??

If so that’s excellent!!

mrsspooky · 24/05/2020 18:09

Its just such a shambles. it makes me think the people in Spain have the right idea going up to government in cars to protest! I wish the journalists had asked more, like how often he stopped to let his 4 year old have a wee or get petrol, why he didnt ask London family to help and have they investigated if there was an increase in death rate in Durham after his visit.

MadameMarie · 24/05/2020 18:09

I've wondered for a while whether the poor messaging has been intended to get people gradually breaking lockdown without the government actually saying so (and hence being held accountable).

I think that has definitely been the case. They've been deliberate vague in the last few weeks and Boris tipped the press off that lock down was over going into the VE weekend which saw mass street parties etc and we've had people flocking to the beach and parks.

They're desperate to get people back to work and the kids back in school, that's their main concern.

The problem is now if there's a huge second spike then Boris can't hide.

GrimmsFairytales · 24/05/2020 18:10

chomalungma

Someone will probably be fired, but I suspect they will think it was worth it.

MarshaBradyo · 24/05/2020 18:10

Haha at that Civil Service tweet!

Hilarious
Deleted but will be shared everywhere

munchbunch12 · 24/05/2020 18:10

YYYYY to emailing your MP. Earlier on in the thread @tiredvommachine provided a good template if anyone is a bit stuck for words. Here it is...

I’m contacting you as my local MP. I am appalled by the actions of Dominic Cummings and even more appalled by the way the Cabinet has obviously been instructed to rally round him. It is shocking to me that our elected politicians are defending this aide who has quite clearly broken the rules of the lockdown set up to protect everyone.

This fundamentally undermines the integrity of the Conservative party and the message that we are all in this together and all making sacrifices to keep each other safe.

Are you prepared to state publicly that what you think he did was wrong? If not, will you be issuing new guidance locally to say that we can all travel to relatives however far away while we, or a member of our household, has Covid19 symptoms?

Thank you for your time, and I look forward to your reply.

Sconio123 · 24/05/2020 18:10

I hope to fuck (not that I agree with their actions) that those who were caught out driving and were fined will now claim for reimbursement, citing the 'cummings rule'

Roussette · 24/05/2020 18:13

This is a basterding kick in the face for everyone who has followed the rules for the sake of themselves and other people
Agree.

I think we have to vow not to let the Govt forget this. I want this to be BoJo's moment that showed him up for what he is. Surely those that voted for him can't think this is OK. Although I've had a lot of abuse on Twitter saying some pretty awful things in defence of all of this.
