Rou, I had a generic response from my MP saying his had a lot of correspondence to get through!
I'll get some party line rubbish in reply I suppose.

Roussette · 24/05/2020 12:27

He is a complete scruffbag. I suppose he thinks it's cool to have his arse hanging out his trousers, there are photos of this...

The trouble is... sacking him is just a nod to the public. He will stay on as unofficial adviser to lame duck PM Boris. It'll just be behind the scenes.
Boris doesn't do a thing without Cummings pulling the strings.

Roussette · 24/05/2020 12:28

80s I once had an 'out of office auto reply' from mine in response to an email.
I did larf.... he's never had a constituency office so that was bollocks too!

SouthWestmom · 24/05/2020 12:29

But sacking him will mean any salary goes, it's shameful and embarrassing (even if he doesn't care, he knows what it looks like) and any involvement from him would have to be justified

If he does resign to appease the public I really believe it will be a charade and a resignation in name only.

Absolutely! Cummings is in charge and Johnson needs him to run the country and give instructions.

SixesAndEights · 24/05/2020 12:31

My MO isn't a Tory and I've emailed him asking him to bring the matter up when Parliament comes back, whatever happens in the meantime. So I think it's worth emailing your MP whatever party they're from just so MPs can see how their constituents feel about this.

SixesAndEights · 24/05/2020 12:32

*MP

OhIWouldDrive260Miles · 24/05/2020 12:32

The head of the ERG Steve Baker has come out against him. Brexit has now ‘got done’ apparently Hmm, is DC really as indispensable as he thinks he is?

Hope he goes but am not getting my hopes up.

Everytimeref · 24/05/2020 12:33

If they attempted the "resign but stay in the background" unofficial advisory trick the papers will be on it.

Butterymuffin · 24/05/2020 12:36

The trouble is... sacking him is just a nod to the public. He will stay on as unofficial adviser to lame duck PM Boris. It'll just be behind the scenes.

Agree this is likely but there are two benefits

  • he won't have the big fat salary we pay for anymore
  • decent journalists can watch his comings and goings Grin and then keep reporting on how Johnson is unduly influenced by a discredited, unelected individual

Better than now

randomer · 24/05/2020 12:37

@weepingwillow and you neurovirus story.......safeguarding.....I have never ever heard such utter bullshit in my life!

That word make me want to vomit! Are children up and down the land now being safeguarded...the ones who are neglected , abused, at the mercy of the growing army of vile abusers who stalk the internet, the starving ones ( because yes some are)

How dare that odious creature use the word to cover his tracks.

StealthPolarBear · 24/05/2020 12:37

Yep I'm in Durham. We did have relatively low rates at the beginning of this in the North East but they've shot up.

Roussette · 24/05/2020 12:40

Better than now

Infinitely better yes!

If Cummings doesn't resign today, he must be sacked. If Boris doesn't, it raises even more serious concerns of his ability to lead a Govt.

NudgeUnit · 24/05/2020 12:41

Ah, I've found my people. Watching this unfold with interest. Yesterday I was praying for Cummings' head to be served up on a platter, but today I'm flirting with the idea that him staying might do this appalling government more harm still. Bit conflicted, I don't mind saying.

FuckThisWind · 24/05/2020 12:44

I'm 20 miles away from Durham, but my Dad is there today for a work related thing. The nature of the work means he has to check in with Durham Constabulary to report his whereabouts. I might ask him to enquire about making a complaint to the force around this.

B1rdbra1n · 24/05/2020 12:45

I'm hearing a lot about a Russia report and time that Dominic Cummings spent in Russia before his sudden rise to power🤔
I feel like I'm quite behind the curve on everything 😳🙈

SouthWestmom · 24/05/2020 12:46

Good thinking wind
*
I reckon they are exploring getting the story s*traight for tonights's presser and then sacking tomorrow if people still don't shut up and go away.

Ian Blackford reminding everyone Weds meeting and then Parliament back next week

Which poor sod is going to do the presser tonight?

LarkDescending · 24/05/2020 12:51

Did Sophy Ridge get anywhere with Shapps on “what did Boris know and when”?

Maybe Boris can’t sack him because he knew about and authorised his travel from the outset.

LarkDescending · 24/05/2020 12:51

I think Jenrick is up for tonight’s presser.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 24/05/2020 12:52

It won’t be one of the big hitters

RedRum27 · 24/05/2020 12:52

I emailed my MP, think it's a great idea especially as they are your rep in Parliament. It's truly abhorrent defending the indefensible. What's making it worse is the number of Senior and other Tory MPs tweeting support for him like puppies/yes-people. It's also frustrating people on twitter supporting Cummings because 'he's the man that got us Brexit' - whether that's the case or not, just because he did one thing some people think is good doesn't mean he can't then go against government guidance he helped to set and hold the public in such contempt that he acts unaccountable for his actions. He has to go - others have gone for less than this. I really feel for those who have lost loved ones (myself included here), not been able to attend funerals or simply have not seen/touched/hugged their family and friends because they have been in solidarity with the country and following the guidelines. I am glad MPs are speaking out. Someone on twitter has compiled a list of approx 50 or maybe more now who have tweeted his support - clearly a memo went out!

B1rdbra1n · 24/05/2020 12:53

when he said 'it's about doing the right thing'
what he meant was it's about his privilege to do what is in his personal best interests, his right to make choices based on what is personally convenient for him
But the rest of us are expected to buckle down and act in the collective best interest, the rest of us are expected to suffer for the common good
and when he said 'it's not about what you guys think'
what he meant was, no one is allowed to hold me to account, no one else's opinion matters, I will be judge and jury for myself

GrimmsFairytales · 24/05/2020 12:53

It won’t be one of the big hitters

Of course not, BJ will send out the low tier minions whilst he hides away.

The80sweregreat · 24/05/2020 12:56

I have to attend safeguarding meetings once a year as a lowly worker in a school ( not teaching)
It's very important and our head takes it very seriously. Admittedly it's not something we've had about coronavirus, but surely someone could have helped Dominic and his family out closer to home? I feel so sorry for his little boy. He is totally innocent here but being used as a excuse to break rules others had to abide by or be fined.
