I'm not sure you're allowed to use CCTV to catch people out.....to detect crime otoh

GiraffeWithSwag · 24/05/2020 11:29

I’ve not read the full thread but here’s what I reckon should happen at today’s briefing:
The journos hunt in a pack. They repeatedly ask a variation on a theme of DC/travelling/lockdown questions, get govt on the back foot.

What I think will actually happen, in light of DS putting out their ‘fake news by the papers’ statement.....they will stonewall all related questions and say DS have made it clear their stance on the matter so move on.
I think BoJo should come out and say he was wrong to support DC originally and now he agrees with gen concensus that he must go.
BJ won’t be seen for at least another week.

chomalungma · 24/05/2020 11:30

I wonder if there is more that the press know...that's just waiting...

HandsOffMyRights · 24/05/2020 11:30

At the end of March, the PM told us not to visit our mothers for Mother's Day.

He told a press conference: "The sad news is that means staying away. This time the best thing is to ring her, video call her, Skype her, but to avoid any unnecessary physical contact or proximity," he added. "Because if your mother is elderly or vulnerable, then I am afraid all the statistics show that she is much more likely to die from Coronavirus, or Covid-19. We cannot disguise or sugar coat the threat."

Unlike most of the British public, Cummings' parents are elderly. His family were infectious, yet he still went at that time.

HandsOffMyRights · 24/05/2020 11:32

Sorry, meant unlike most of the British public, Cummings' family were infectious!

bellinisurge · 24/05/2020 11:32

I wouldn't put it past the shifty bastards to have disclosed this as a play to end lockdown. Where everyone goes "fuck it". I certainly feel "fuck it".

MaxNormal · 24/05/2020 11:33

I think it may be no bad thing if they keep him on - that is, if you're not a fan of Johnson's government. It will taint them badly and leave them with a credibility problem.
On the other hand, if he "goes", will he really be gone or will there still be influence, only even more unseen now?

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 24/05/2020 11:34

Worth recalling the Scottish precedent. Sturgeon initially stood by Calderwood because her advice was so 'valuable,' but when the outcry wouldn't die down, Sturgeon declared that she had been misled and Calderwood was informed that she had resigned.

I wish our MP was a Tory so I could email him and complain! Is there any point in emailing neighbouring MPs who are Tories?

whatnametopick · 24/05/2020 11:34

My bet is he stopped at wetherby services, surely not many others will have visited that day, as they were STAYING AT HOME Angry

StealthPolarBear · 24/05/2020 11:35

Yes, I a big follower of rules but even I'm getting to the fuck it stage

SailingOver · 24/05/2020 11:36

I wouldn't put it past the shifty bastards to have disclosed this as a play to end lockdown. Where everyone goes "fuck it". I certainly feel "fuck it".

Surely that would cause utter chaos.

mumwon · 24/05/2020 11:38

cum off it

PerkingFaintly · 24/05/2020 11:39

Yep, another one here who was prepared to give the government a lot of rope (with the opposition playing the role of critical friend: neither opposing for the sake of it nor kowtowing).

This is a genuinely bloody difficult time for every country.

Truth be told I still want to give them a lot of rope because they simply cannot please everyone and there is no good path, just a series of competing horrendous ones.

But given the individuals in power, I won't be the least surprised to see it descend into a self-serving shit show.Sad

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 24/05/2020 11:40

I wonder if there is more that the press know...that's just waiting...

Yes I think so. It’s still a new story

Yes on DC had been moved on Boris Johnson needs to admit he made a mistake - we shall be reminded he too was ill at the time blah blah he shall be forgiven

knittingaddict · 24/05/2020 11:42

I can't find any update to change the exercise 'only in your home' for people with symptoms issued 12 March.

Noeuf someone on another thread kindly posted this for me:

www.gov.uk/government/speeches/pm-statement-on-coronavirus-16-march-2020

This was a statement from Boris Johnson and said that people with symptoms could go out to exercise. I think it's another of those briefings that were swiftly changed on the Monday or, at least, very quickly. Certainly advice before and after this date said clearly that you couldn't leave the house if you suspected that you had CV. The advice to stay at home is definitely the more sensible approach.

This advice from 20th Feb says not to go out even for a walk:

publichealthmatters.blog.gov.uk/2020/02/20/what-is-self-isolation-and-why-is-it-important/

I think there was a small period in time that the government didn't know it's arse from it's elbow and some people remember that, obviously wrong advice. A complete shambles.

vera99 · 24/05/2020 11:43

Just to save the Tory bots the trouble could I just say in my most strident tone...

AT LEAST HE'S NOT CORBYN.

lockdown means lockdown

knittingaddict · 24/05/2020 11:45

Yes, I a big follower of rules but even I'm getting to the fuck it stage

Me too, StealthPOlarBear.

The only things that are making me stick to lockdown is care for my own safety, love for my family and their safety and a sense of social responsibility. How long those will last, I can't say.

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 24/05/2020 11:46

BJ is a coward. He is up before the Scrutiny Ctee on Wednesday, after moving heaven and earth to avoid them.

It's not difficult to work out.

ssd · 24/05/2020 11:47

If DC drove to Durham because he was only thinking of the children he loves so much, Peter Andre must be driving round like a bastard.

itsgettingweird · 24/05/2020 11:47

OMG lark that is just amazing.

GrimmsFairytales · 24/05/2020 11:48

LarkDescending

That was outstanding. Thank you for the morbid giggle.

itsgettingweird · 24/05/2020 11:48

Ah but knitting you are getting it all wrong. Love for your family means you should be flouting the rules. What's what all parents who love their kids do WinkGrin
