Seen running out of Downing Street
Went to self isolate with his wife in Durham with his parents when he had symptoms
Seems he had his family with him
He stayed with his wife and his parents looked after the children

One rule for us, one rule for him

Hartley-Brewer’s after him on Twitter.

Helmetbymidnight · 23/05/2020 08:44

he'll never be sacked- he is the govt.

HandsOffMyRights · 23/05/2020 08:44

He's a selfish prick who needs to go.

My mother lives 80 miles away. Not seen her in months.

Not only did Cummings risk infecting his elderly parents, but he risked the car breaking down or even crashing, which would have put pressure and risk on others - let alone using the services.

chomalungma · 23/05/2020 08:45

BBC Today programme was also very pro Cummings.

Asking what Ian Blackford would have done if he had been in his position.

I struggle to believe that either no one could come from Durham to collect his son and take him away - or ideally, one of their London friends could have looked after him.

Driving 250 miles - when clearly infectious - and spreading the disease - is not on.

If anyone had suggested this as an option on AIBU, they would have been flamed.

cantdothisnow1 · 23/05/2020 08:49

Why did he need looking after in the first place? They are well enough to drive so they are well enough to stick him in front of the TV for a few days.

This is a brilliant example of media bias. Unbelievable.

mondaynoon · 23/05/2020 08:49

I can't believe people on the BBC are defending him! How has this man become so powerful?

Helmetbymidnight · 23/05/2020 08:50

why are they taking that line?

this is the guy who gatecrashed all the sage meetings- he knew what it was- but he is an exception. and as for his wife blatantly lying in the spectator and on radio four....

ChickenNuggetsChipsAndBeans · 23/05/2020 08:50

So it is about a 4 hour drive. Did they need stop to use the toilet, get snacks or fill the car with petrol?

Who in government knew about this?

Why would he risk infecting his family with this terrible virus?

If they weren't well enough to look after their child, how were they well enough to drive that long distance. I assume one of them drove.

And finally for fuck sake, every day on mumsnet I hear of parents having to look after their children in difficult circumstances. Families are facing poverty or illness or even homelessness and we manage to do it whilst complying with these bloody awful rules. I hope he resigns or gets sacked.

Comenext · 23/05/2020 08:51

So how many toilet stops did he have on the way?
Infecting more people. Selfish prat.

chomalungma · 23/05/2020 08:52

All I can say is that the Press briefing tonight will be very interesting

If he survives this then I'm done with this shit. Do what you want that shall be the whole of the law.

JudyCoolibar · 23/05/2020 08:53

Trying to drum up some outrage and I just can't find any. Wrong, shouldn't have done it, blah blah blah. Next

Might you feel a tad outraged if you caught Covid because you were the unfortunate sod who inadvertently touched a petrol pump just after Cummings or his wife had coughed over it whilst filling up for their little journey?

JudyCoolibar · 23/05/2020 08:54

seems it was his sister who had offered to help with childcare when he and his wife fell ill

So why didn't she go to their house rather than encouraging them to drive 250 miles when ill and when they would inevitably spread the virus?

3mDuring the pandemic, we've heard inspiring stories of communities coming together, such as a choir swapping scores for sewing machines to make masks & scrubs.

We want to hear about other people who are going the extra mile.

if he ditches the whole tw are women mantra, he might re gather the lost labour and lib dem voters.

Only on MN could anyone drag the trans obsession into a discussion on Cummings breaking lockdown rules.

MurrayTheMonk · 23/05/2020 08:58

This is weird. It was actually mentioned at the time and it was kind of ignored. Im sure Lewis Goodall tweeted about it. Why has it all come out more now?

So many things wrong with it.

He went before he fell ill if we believe his wife's article about their lockdown.

If we don't believe it, he was very ill but not too ill to drive 275 miles

He was seen dancing in the garden

It was his Mums birthday which is a coincidence isn't it?

'They stayed in a separate property on the parents land' is being offered as defence but they were seen in the parents house-so that's not really a defence is it?

Two weeks after, Jenny offered a weird caveat at a press conference-something about 'if you need urgent help with childcare you can break lockdown'-it was kind of apropo of nothing at the time, but was it actually in preparation for this coming out? If so she also needs to be looked at. She must be getting paid an awful lot to ruin her own credibility.

Surely Boris / Downing st knew where the chief advisor was?

Two scientific advisors have been made to resign for less. Why has he not immediately gone?

A source said last night 'Dom isn't remotely bothered about this story' what will it take for people to wake up to this fucking government and the shambles they have created and the lies they have told?

whenwillthemadnessend · 23/05/2020 08:58

He will have to resign. Not other choice.

megletthesecond · 23/05/2020 08:58

PMQ's is off for a week or so isn't it. Give a Starmer time to go for the jugular on this one.

Cummings gives me sociopath vibes. I've worked with a couple like him.

Him and his wife must be dreadful parents if they can't care for a 4yr old. I've managed two on my own for a decade.

DippyAvocado · 23/05/2020 08:59

BBC just said he came down with the illness the day after he drove them all up there.

If he wasn't ill, why did they need childcare?

vera99 · 23/05/2020 08:59

Huge social media operation underway tonight by armies of right wing Twitter accounts to divert attention from Dominic Cummings’ illegal visit to his parents in Durham during the lockdown

If you see Stephen Kinnock rather than Cummings trending Twitter, that’s why

doublehalo · 23/05/2020 08:59

Two people from SAGE not in the least bit bothered about the lockdown rules they imposed on the rest of us.

Inferences can be drawn from that - aside from the fact that they're both arrogant cunts.

Itisasecret · 23/05/2020 09:00

I doubt Boris will do anything. The Tory party will though, I’d happily place a large bet, he will not be PM by the end of the year.

Helmetbymidnight · 23/05/2020 09:02

he wont resign and he wont be sacked- or if he is, he'll be back within days in a different capacity. he is brexit no one else can do it.

chomalungma · 23/05/2020 09:02

If you see Stephen Kinnock rather than Cummings trending Twitter, that’s why

Indeed.

In a sense though, that calls attention to the story as Kinnock was ages ago. So it links to Cummings

Very suspicious though of twitter and how easily it can be manipulated

@chomalungma

The BBC are the mouthpiece of the govt in times of crisis, they won't criticise Johnson et al, he controls the licence fee.
Kuenssberg recently had an article on R4 recently in which she said how hard CV must be for a new government and one having to deal with a collapsed adult social care system on top too....... i agree, after 10 years of Labour in power, must be a nightmare!!! mmmmmmm
