Seen running out of Downing Street
Went to self isolate with his wife in Durham with his parents when he had symptoms
Seems he had his family with him
He stayed with his wife and his parents looked after the children

One rule for us, one rule for him

I'm utterly and totally astonished that there are people defending this

Me too kitten

If they were so ill they were unable to look after a 4 year old - there is no way they were safe to drive over 250 miles.

Utterly irresponsible

SixesAndEights · 23/05/2020 10:35

Just been a statement from Downing Street. It was all within the rules, apparently and he has done nothing wrong.

The government would be lost without their leader.

B1rdbra1n · 23/05/2020 10:36

This is appalling, no one will follow government rules now
if they play fast and loose with them so obviously then why can't we

chomalungma · 23/05/2020 10:37

It's very kind their sister volunteered to look after their child.

Why couldn't she drive down to collect him for a few weeks?

Wow, the utter contempt and arrogance of Downing Street. Can’t say I’m surprised.

CountFosco · 23/05/2020 10:40

Either he was ill and couldn't drive - or he wasn't that ill and could drive - thus spreading the disease to the North of England

The North East that at that time had very few cases and now has the highest R rate in the country, and is the poorest region and we've all see the ONS figures on the impact of socioeconomic group on the death rate. Thanks for that Dom.

user1495884620 · 23/05/2020 10:40

The government are going to lose an awful lot of lockdown compliance over this. It's utter shit.

SabrinaThwaite · 23/05/2020 10:40

I see No 10 also accusing Durham Police of telling porkies.

jasjas1973 · 23/05/2020 10:41

Exactly, its vital law breakers are held to account during a nation crisis, in which over 60k have died, whoever they are and from whatever party, if Starmer did this, i would want and expect him to resign.

But it looks like we can all do as we want now, because its ALL within the rules.

DippyAvocado · 23/05/2020 10:42

Travelling 275 miles to stay with family while you have Coronavirus is within the rules? Well, I have misunderstood this entire time. Here was I thinking I needed to stay completely away from my family who live 50 miles away when I didn't have any symptoms of the virus. Now I know that it's fine to go if I actually have it. I'm grateful to Downing Street for the clarification.

They really do think we're all stupid.

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 23/05/2020 10:43

Clearly 90% of us have misunderstood the rules....this was "reasonable" and didn't break the lockdown rules....it's frankly bollocks.

Asuitablecat · 23/05/2020 10:44

They know it's indefensible. They know he broke t he rules. But they know the British public will swallow anyth I ng if Boris says it and is backed up by the press. They treat us with contempt.

SabrinaThwaite · 23/05/2020 10:44

And Cummings didn’t take the child up to his parents by himself, as implied, unless his wife is making up shit in her Spectator column about their joint Covid experience?

LarkDescending · 23/05/2020 10:45

Let’s have a guess at who has drafted No 10’s statement.

Dominic Cummings travelled from London to Durham to self isolate
B1rdbra1n · 23/05/2020 10:47

If that's within the rules then the rest of us can also bend the rules to suit ourselves
Ergo the rules are meaningless

twinnywinny14 · 23/05/2020 10:47

Another fine example of how little the government think of us and they clearly think we are stupid. What he did was not within the rules at all, even if they self isolated in a house and had no contact worth family at all it was still not within the rules

B1rdbra1n · 23/05/2020 10:50

So Dominic's wife spins a fairy tale in which the king and queen behave perfectly👑
that will pacify the peasants, they'll happily carry on living on gruel while we enjoy the finer things of life

Itisasecret · 23/05/2020 10:53

The only good thing to come of this is Boris is finished. As soon as we ‘are out of the woods’ he will be gone. The Tories will turn on him and so will the press. It’s already started with the fact the Daily Mail ran this story full stop. They know it’s game over.

SabrinaThwaite · 23/05/2020 10:54

And of course now it gives the British public the perfect excuse to say fuck lockdown, the R number picks up, Cummings gets his herd immunity plan reactivated, and the Government gets to blame the public for ignoring lockdown ...

LarkDescending · 23/05/2020 10:58

If you have symptoms of coronavirus (Covid-19) infection, do not leave home for any reason.*

*Unless that feels a bit tricky, in which case do what you want. If you think you’ve taken this liberty too far, mention it to your boss who will arrange for the Deputy CMO to say something in a press conference after the fact that you can pretend you were relying on at the time.

RhondaWentToRhyl · 23/05/2020 11:00

'But I still say if you’re well enough to drive that far then you’re not I’ll enough to need help. He knows the stats, that for most people it’s mild. That the chances of both of them being soo ill they needed help were minimal'

Yes look how long Boris Jonson's mild symptoms lasted. You can be functioning one week and in ICU the next is what I have seen both on the news and also from personal experience.

No, I'm not married to Cummings @mondaynoon Shock, I just believe driving to parents then self isolating in a separate building whilst (I'm presuming) healthy parents care for a very young DC isnt a sackable offence. The dep cmo said caring for a dc whilst parents were ill was exceptional circumstances!

Now Gove has tweeted a one liner that caring for your wife and child is not a crime!

Luckily, the Secret Barrister is offering to help him to understand the issues.

HandsOffMyRights · 23/05/2020 11:03

Cross posted OP!

LarkDescending · 23/05/2020 11:03

Obviously it wouldn’t normally be a sackable offence if we weren’t experiencing a pandemic! A small number of posters seem to have miised the point that normal rules do not currently apply.
