Are people still quarantining their food shopping

Not sure I can be bothered with this any more, nor that it makes much difference anyway.

What do other folk think?

OP posts:
mamaduckbone · 19/05/2020 21:05

Haven't done it at all.
My dh was told by someone in our local supermarket that not a single person working there has become ill during the whole lockdown period, so I'm hazarding a guess that the risks are pretty minimal.

Drivingdownthe101 · 19/05/2020 21:09

It's not a big deal to put things in the spare room for a period of time and to wash the rest

Tricky if you don’t have a spare room though.

Potentialmadcatlady · 19/05/2020 21:09

Heron.. the nastiness just shows how un-intelligent the people making those comments are.

Zaphodsotherhead · 19/05/2020 21:10

I've asked this before in similar threads - do any of you who are currently cleaning your shopping ALSO clean shopping during flu outbreaks or norovirus?

Because both of those 'can' live on surfaces and be bloody unpleasant to suffer from.

IncrediblySadToo · 19/05/2020 21:10

@Bartlet

About the level of intellectual argument you’d expect from someone who probably Dettols their bananas and hides their letters in a garage for 3 days

Nope I wash it all in a bowl of soapy water & rinse it.

I open the mail, put the envelope in the recycling, read the contents bin it/put it in a box To deal with later then wash my hands.

Hardly onerous

As I said. If it make you feel happy or safer then crack on. Just be aware that everyone else is laughing at you

No, they're not, only juvenile idiots like you. Other people either do the same or accept I do what's right for me -like adults.

Drivingdownthe101 · 19/05/2020 21:10

I don’t think that’s correct I think it will be more prevelant In the months to come

It may be, it remains to be seen. But it is currently far less prevalent in the community than it was in the two weeks before lockdown. Hence the high death rates a couple of weeks after lockdown.

RedRed9 · 19/05/2020 21:11

As I said. If it make you feel happy or safer then crack on. Just be aware that everyone else is laughing at you

Why do you feel the need to be cruel to people @Bartlet ?

Derbygerbil · 19/05/2020 21:13

Yes... The porch has been turned into a decontamination zone once I heard Wuhan was up to 100 cases. When the post arrives I get into my hazmat suit, fill up my anti-viral spray gun and enter the porch, spraying liberally as I enter. I gingerly pick up the post, and place it in the microwave I’ve installed in there, and heat on high for two minutes. I take out and liberally spray with more anti-virals before irradiating it using a second-hand x-ray machine purchased after the fall of the Soviet Union. I then place into a sealed lead container. I then re-enter the hall, spraying the whole time. After seven days I then open the sealed container and read the letter.

Mrsmadevans · 19/05/2020 21:13

We did but we have stopped , it was such a faff

Drivingdownthe101 · 19/05/2020 21:19

In fact the best estimate is that in the week before lockdown approx 4% of the population were infected. Now that figure is around 0.27%:

IncrediblySadToo · 19/05/2020 21:19

@Zaphodsotherhead

I've asked this before in similar threads - do any of you who are currently cleaning your shopping ALSO clean shopping during flu outbreaks or norovirus?

I've answered you before in other threads 😊

No, because the infection rate is much lower and neither of those are as likely to kill me if I get them.

Because both of those 'can' live on surfaces and be bloody unpleasant to suffer from

Bloody unpleasant & deadly are quite different.

Zaphodsotherhead · 19/05/2020 21:21

Flu can be deadly though, IncrediblySadToo especially to those who are currently shielding from CV-19 because of health issues.

And thank you for answering me on the other threads!

Bartlet · 19/05/2020 21:24

@RedRed9. It’s not cruel to question a practice which has zero scientific basis apart from a theoretical study that didn’t actually show any transmission to human from food packaging.

peanutsandcream · 19/05/2020 21:25

I have never quarantined my shopping or parcels and we have been fine. I make sure I wash my hands straight away after touching them and putting packaging in the bin.

Areyouactuallyseriousrightnow · 19/05/2020 21:27

Never did. Find it extremely extremely unlikely that there would be sufficient viral load on my tin of baked beans To make me sick.
I just don’t think people got it from their shopping they got it from being in close proximity with someone infected, either being sneezed on, coughed on, (that would’ve done it straight away) or breathed on for long enough to acquire sufficient viral load to get sick.

Bartlet · 19/05/2020 21:27

@Derbygerbil. Ha ha. You’ll make the pseudo bio containment experts on this thread think that they’re slouching in their preventative actions.

BearFoxBear · 19/05/2020 21:30

We've not quarantined anything, but do wash the shopping before putting it away.

What I've taken from this whole thing is that while it's a bit of a faff, loads of stuff - tins etc - is pretty dirty, so I'll probably carry on doing it!

Chloemol · 19/05/2020 21:33

Never have, just wash my hands after

nor bothered with leaving the post. I open the envelopes and throw away and wash my hands

Yup still doing it

TheShapeJaper · 19/05/2020 21:41

Haven’t ever. Whenever I go to the supermarket it’s the same staff every time - surely if this was necessary supermarket staff would be dropping like flies or would have over the last few months? I think it’s worth the minuscule risk. We can’t live in a sterile environment - that is not good for us.

Floatyboat · 19/05/2020 21:46

Nope, that stopped being cool over a month ago.

Larkspurandhollyhocks · 19/05/2020 21:55

I did it twice and then thought feck this for a game of soldiers

Gncq · 19/05/2020 21:55

Ugh, there is a risk that using and therefore consuming so many cleaning chemicals will cause cancer.

choli · 19/05/2020 21:56

But in my view, it was widely recommended on here a couple of months ago and I don't see any reason why the risk is substantially less now.
The risk is not substantially less now. It's the same as it's always been - minuscule.
