Are people still quarantining their food shopping

Not sure I can be bothered with this any more, nor that it makes much difference anyway.

What do other folk think?

Wiping down shopping and quarantining parcels for a couple of days in the shed, it’s no big deal and peace of mind for me

ToothFairyNemesis · 19/05/2020 19:54

The risk to you is far greater than from coronavirus.
For you maybe @Sadie789 sadly not for me.

eeeyoresmiles · 19/05/2020 19:54

Ocado are bloody awful for mixing raw meat in with cooked meat or fresh fruit etc, so that stuff would all need cleaning off anyway.

Are you ticking the box asking for separate bags for raw meat? It's under your account settings somewhere.

We do ours and will keep going for now, but will keep reassessing as time goes on and rates hopefully continue to go down. I still find it a PITA but it has got easier and quicker to do with habit.

Annebronte · 19/05/2020 19:55

No. Never did. The risk is tiny; as others have said, we take greater risks all the time.

Deelish75 · 19/05/2020 19:55

Never really done it. Wash my hands and wipe down fridge and cupboard handles afterwards.
I do leave anything for the bathroom in quarantine for a few days but that’s more down to laziness than I’m actually quarantining it.

Selfsettling3 · 19/05/2020 19:55

Yes, husband is in the shielding group and we live in the North East were the R rate is still high.

rosie1959 · 19/05/2020 19:56

No never have

AliasGrape · 19/05/2020 20:00

I was washing everything with soapy water. Could feel myself losing the plot a bit so have stopped. Just wash my hands after, wipe surfaces, fridge and cupboard doors and get on with my life - feel far calmer that way.

mum2jakie · 19/05/2020 20:01

Never done it

Twattergy · 19/05/2020 20:03

No idea what that even means. So, no. Ridiculous.

WanderingMilly · 19/05/2020 20:03

I sanitise every food packet/bottle/jar that comes into the house before it is put away. Sanitise the shopping bags too, use gloves and mask.
Post is put on the side and outer envelopes/boxes opened with gloves on and discarded straight away.

Possibly I don't need to but I just feel happier that way, I have done all I can....

Zaphodsotherhead · 19/05/2020 20:05

I know that they've said the virus can live on surfaces, but my understanding is that it can't live in sufficient amounts to give anyone enough of a viral load that they'd actually contract the illness.

If you are shielding because of health issues then I can just about understand, but for most people, I think it's a waste of time.

motheroftwoboys · 19/05/2020 20:07

No, no point at all.

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 19/05/2020 20:08

Nope, never did either, just wash your hands.

yikesanotherbooboo · 19/05/2020 20:08

No, I haven't either

begoniapot · 19/05/2020 20:10

Never done it, or cleaned the bags, food etc.

Justmuddlingalong · 19/05/2020 20:11

I've never done it either, but know people who do. Each to their own.

CokeEnStock · 19/05/2020 20:11

Nope. Shopping, delivered or brought home by me is put away and then I wash my hands. Takeaway, we decant immediately on to plates and then wash hands. Deliveries, post or parcels the same. Open, throw away packaging, wash hands. I find all this a bit OTT really but will stick with the hand washing.

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 19/05/2020 20:13

i know people who get in from work and shower and wash their clothes! due to the virus

enjoyingscience · 19/05/2020 20:14

Never did it in the first place. Wash hands when I come in from the shops, wash fruit and veg before use (in a normal way).

TARSCOUT · 19/05/2020 20:15

Never started to be honest.

TARSCOUT · 19/05/2020 20:16

Nor have i worn gloves or a facemask. Have been to supermarket once a week, been in various office buildings once a week, never worn gloves etc.

Bartlet · 19/05/2020 20:20

No because it was a purely theoretical risk which was only ever produced in laboratory conditions and never in enough quantity to infect anyone. Let alone have one single provable incidence of transmission by shopping wrappers.

People do it because they’re scared, rather stupid, have too much time on their hands and it makes them feel more in control.

It doesn’t harm anyone else and it’s quite funny to read their tales of creating their own mini bio containment lab in suburbia. It’s also a useful way for other Mumsnet users to identify someone of limited intellectual capabilities in case you meet them on other threads.

Sadie789 · 19/05/2020 20:30

@ToothFairyNemesis both my parents have multiple health issues which make coronavirus a serious risk for them. I am still far more worried about the many other ways they could come to harm than by catching coronavirus from a bag of supermarket salad.

HavenDilemma · 19/05/2020 20:33

JUST WASH YOUR HAMDS AFTER HANDLING IT!!!!?! 🤦🏼‍♀️🤣🤣🤣
