Are people still quarantining their food shopping

Not sure I can be bothered with this any more, nor that it makes much difference anyway.

What do other folk think?

Exactly @Drivingdownthe101 - very well put

choli · 19/05/2020 19:29

I don't know anyone who ever did that. Pretty much everyone I know is capable of doing a risk assessment.

Drivingdownthe101 · 19/05/2020 19:31

it's so easy to do it seems a bit daft not to

There is nothing easy about washing every piece of shopping that comes into the house when a) you have three young children including a toddler, and the amount of shopping coming into the house is massive and
b) said children are generally under my feet while trying to unpack it.

And no way I’m quarantining parcels. If I’ve ordered something it’s because I want it fairly soon. Not have it sit in my garage for 5 days.

Zaphodsotherhead · 19/05/2020 19:33

It's pointless.

If CV-19 could be spread on shopping then us shop workers should be dropping like flies. We handle HUGE numbers of goods on a daily basis, from delivery to warehouse, warehouse to shelves, then through the till.

We are not dropping like flies. We just wash our hands a lot and it's all fine.

Recoverandthrive · 19/05/2020 19:34

Yes still doing it and hate it but not stopping yet.

RedRed9 · 19/05/2020 19:34

I also take the risk of being struck by lightning on a daily basis.

I get what you’re saying but this analogy doesn’t work. You’d be taking that risk if you ran around an open field during a thunderstorm. But you’re not taking the risk of being struck by lightening daily when there is no lightening daily.

Drivingdownthe101 · 19/05/2020 19:35

We all take risks, all the time.

Hotcuppatea · 19/05/2020 19:36

This only serves to increase anxiety. Try and stop doing it as soon as you can.

kingkuta · 19/05/2020 19:39

People quarantined their food shopping? ShockGrin

RaininSummer · 19/05/2020 19:39

Never did that.

Destroyedpeople · 19/05/2020 19:39

Well ok red I admit I don't run around naked in thunderstorms. But you know what I am saying . All this nonsense is getting to me esp being called 'daft' (a patronising little word) for not scrubbing down my groceries. Come on women get a grip.
I agree with 'drivingdownthe101'

MsChatterbox · 19/05/2020 19:41

I stopped last week. Feels like such a relief. I still wash hands afterwards and dump things out of boxes onto counter but that's it.

IreneWinters · 19/05/2020 19:41

Yes. Quarantine the cupboard goods for three days and wash down or take out of packaging for anything else. Feels a bit daft, and every time the shopping arrives DH and I wonder if we’re being unnecessarily cautious. We’ve got into a good routine with it now though, so it’s really not much bother. Ocado are bloody awful for mixing raw meat in with cooked meat or fresh fruit etc, so that stuff would all need cleaning off anyway. DD is in a vulnerable group.

Potentialmadcatlady · 19/05/2020 19:42

We do.. we are shielding.. doesn’t take me long to wash fridge stuff and the rest goes into a cupboard on its on for 72hours..

BatCrazyCat · 19/05/2020 19:43

I used to wipe shopping down when I got back but not bothering now

IreneWinters · 19/05/2020 19:44

Also, my anxiety levels are at an all time low, and we’re all very relaxed so it certainly doesn’t serve to increase them in my house!

Lavendersquare · 19/05/2020 19:49

We wipe all our shopping down, every single thing. As a family we have observed the lockdown and stuck to the rules, and I'm not about to accidentally let covid-19 over my doorstep on a loaf of bread.
Maybe the risk is small, maybe we are over the top but I will continue to do this for as long as it takes.

simbobs · 19/05/2020 19:50

I came home from the supermarket today with 6 big bags of shopping for the family, including frozen food. It would have taken ages to sanitize everything, and I think it completely unnecessary. By all means wash fruit, but cleaning everything that comes into the house would make me feel paranoid. In the very beginning I did wipe down the milk bottles, but after a couple of days I realised that if the milkman was spreading the virus half the village would have it, which they don't so I stopped. I will say though, that I think it a good idea to test delivery drivers.

Potentialmadcatlady · 19/05/2020 19:50

Same here IreneWinters... taking 15 mins to wash shopping etc helps keeps my anxiety down so it’s a small price for me

PhoneLock · 19/05/2020 19:50

I'm not bothering as I'm pretty sure DH and I have had the dreaded lurgy anyway.

Olive87 · 19/05/2020 19:51

I’ve got debilitating OCD and I don’t do it because there is just no way of getting everything 100% clean so why even bother. I did it once , it took an hour and a half and I felt myself losing the plot completely so I had to stop. As others have said, and I tell myself , the risk is minimal.

Beamur · 19/05/2020 19:52

Yes. Wash it or leave it for 3 days.
Remove all packaging first and put that outside.

ToothFairyNemesis · 19/05/2020 19:53

Yes we wash quarantine for 24/72 hours because we are shielding and the virus can life on surfaces.

Sadie789 · 19/05/2020 19:53

Why take the risk?

If you have stairs in your house you are risking your life every time you use them.

The risk to you is far greater than from coronavirus.

So if you are washing your shopping and quarantining your post I sincerely hope you are also sleeping downstairs, not touching anything electrical, have a carbon monoxide alarm, don’t burn any candles and definitely don’t have a heart attack, aneurism or stroke in your sleep.

Then you should be alright. Phew.

SpringerJS · 19/05/2020 19:53

No and never have done.
