This virus is not going to go away, a vaccine may never be developed, we are just going to have to get used to it as part of life

Nothing is going to be hugely
Different come September

You know nothing much.
Test and trace will change the game.
Your haiku is shit.

TheDailyCarbuncle · 18/05/2020 13:07

There is the very small chance that the virus will just fizzle out. In which case, every effort to avoid it will have been worth it.

In the likely event that that doesn't happen, you're right, nothing is going to be hugely different come September. Even if there is a vaccine it'll take time for everyone to be immunised and the highest risk people will be prioritised. There will still be a risk that you can get covid, just like there's a risk you can get flu. The difference will be that you'll have to live in a destroyed economy.

Another clone thread Hmm
Do you feel better now?

LettuceP · 18/05/2020 13:09

I think that more and more people are starting to open their eyes and see this now, thank god.

Toilenstripes · 18/05/2020 13:09

Just because you say it
Doesn’t make it true.

There will be a vaccine
Sooner than expected

Mybrowneyedgal · 18/05/2020 13:09

What an uplifting thread. Thanks so much for starting OP, I love a thread that's aimed to make everyone feel hopeless and is based on no scientific fact. Have a lovely day.

TheDailyCarbuncle · 18/05/2020 13:10

Test and trace will make no difference to a virus that exists all over the world. New Zealand will quickly start to realise that when they have the choice between closing their borders for years and dying a slow death from poverty or opening their borders and accepting that they'll have some new infections.

Lardlizard · 18/05/2020 13:10

Lettuce finally seen the light, thank fuck

It might take a while but it will go away, whether by herd immunity or a vaccine/cure. Other viruses like SARS went away on their own.

We do need to learn to live with it until then though as we cannot stay locked down.

Redolent · 18/05/2020 13:13

Here come the ghouls who want to ensure we’re all mired in helplessness.

MummyPop00 · 18/05/2020 13:14

Track & trace sounds good, but doesn’t really allow for international travel as far as I see. Would have to be up to scratch globally.

We can’t even do that throughout the four corners of the UK. Hard border with Scotland imminent?

S-l-o-w-l-y acquired herd immunity seems to be the route with no vaccine or anti-viral treatment as yet

Mynydd · 18/05/2020 13:15

@nellodee you win Grin

BillywilliamV · 18/05/2020 13:15

Yep, absolutely! End of our civilisation.

TheDailyCarbuncle · 18/05/2020 13:16

I'm not sure what you mean @Redolent? To me, locking down seems the ultimate in helplessness - we're so afraid of getting a virus that we're all willing to give up on our lives? Surely accepting that the virus is there and getting on with things is the opposite of helplessness?

TwitterTwatterofTinyMinds · 18/05/2020 13:16

While the tone of the OP is perhaps a bit flippant/goady, there is some truth in this. We are so used to quick fixes the idea that this might hang around for a few years isn't something most people want to get to grips with.

SARS hasn't died off, nor MERS, but they are well managed.

People are poor at judging risk in general, and this is no exception. The immediacy of Covid19, versus the more 'intangible' long term effects make people scared, disproportionately of the virus, but governments worldwide must balance this against this risk of crippling economies - not to protect the rich, but to pay for health and education systems...

CodenameVillanelle · 18/05/2020 13:22

Vaccine in September?

Lardlizard · 18/05/2020 13:24

Hint, I think rainbow is being sarcastic

Redolent · 18/05/2020 13:24

@TheDailyCarbuncle

There’s an alternative to lockdown called test, trace and isolate. Test test test. Pity our incompetent government can’t implement it.

There’s no point in easing lockdown if people don’t feel safe and confident enough to go out, socialise, certain restaurants etc.

Lardlizard · 18/05/2020 13:38

Various people that have made me realise that staying at home for over two months is more than enough, and btw what type of silver cat are you the owner of ?

I have seen on twitter today that doctors in Italy are reporting that the covid19 has mutated into common flu. Can an Italian speaker can verify this?

Lardlizard · 18/05/2020 13:41
