New thread,

I won't be a very good host as I tend to dip in and out of these things but have filled up the last thread. (Sorry)

I've no idea but I'm not looking into it this afternoon - I'm trying to keep my anxiety levels down as yesterday I felt like I was physically in 'fight or flight' mode all afternoon (no obvious explanation why). The random behind ear headache has vaguely resurfaced too.

pinkoneblueone · 17/05/2020 14:16

Thank you @UtterlyPerfectCartoonGiraffe and @fedupofbed I am feeling breathless today after being so anxious yesterday but am going to have to come to terms with the fact I won't know if I have been reinfected or not though I really really hope I have some immunity by now. We have been sick for 10 weeks today. Not how I wanted to spend it but I am also due my period and think it's going to show up today. So it's going to be a day of rest. A lot of rest.

TiddleTaddleTat · 17/05/2020 14:19

I noticed the behind ear headache / earache too. I've had this on and off throughout.

user34254356 · 17/05/2020 14:32

@needsomegoodnews yes i am struggling with temperature spikes especially as they were resolved for 3 weeks but have reappeared again. It's really frustrating and worrying ...

Moominmamma33 · 17/05/2020 14:35

Hey folks. Day 58 or 59 here and not on the up any more. Feel exhausted, chest hurts, kidney pain too, and temp is 37.9. Highest it's been with all this. It's just getting ridiculous now. Thanks for all the links, it'd be wonderful to think there'll be a treatment soon but I'd imagine nothing will happen here for months if not years. Said to my husband only this morning that I bet if I had this in a year's time there'd be some treatment. Or at least some warning about what to expect. It totally sucks being a pioneer in all this, doesn't it.

user34254356 · 17/05/2020 14:39

@alittleprivacy i haven't been able to read the FT article but what are the 4 cold causing corona issues? i though only SARS and MERS were coronavirus

UtterlyPerfectCartoonGiraffe · 17/05/2020 14:48

20% of colds (apparently, learnt that today!) are caused by a coronavirus (not covid 19, obviously). It’s usually a mild virus.

UtterlyPerfectCartoonGiraffe · 17/05/2020 14:52

www.webmd.com/cold-and-flu/cold-guide/common_cold_causes

“Coronavirus” is a name for a group of viruses with a certain appearances. So the coronavirus that causes a common cold and Covid 19 are both coronaviruses, but one is more deadly that the other.

Much like cats and lions are both felines. A lion will kill you, but a domestic cat will just treat you as a disappointing inconvenience.

hollieberrie · 17/05/2020 15:00

hello all

Day 66 here. Still ongoing blocked ears and balance issues plus chest twinges. @Norugratsatall how are your ears and dizziness? Sorry about your tinnitus. I have a phone appointment with an ENT on Tues so will see what he says.

My BP is also still high, GP has just upped the meds. @Linus1972 how are you getting on with your BP?
I hate taking the tablets but have accepted that i have to for now and hopefully once well i can work on my fitness and trying to reduce the dose / come off them. I'm a healthy BMI but at the top end of the healthy range so could probably drop a few kg and my fitness could definitely improve.

@Mittens030869 How are your DDs doing? So tough for them, especially as you're unwell. Are you feeling any better?

Hang in there everyone. Never ever thought i'd still be poorly and active on this thread at day 66. God this virus.

godhelpusall · 17/05/2020 15:17

Hi @hollieberrie - yes it's not the ideal scenario! I swing between vague optimism and then utter despair. Many times a day sometimes. How did you get an ENT appointment? How they do it over the phone is anyone's guess. It's all so unsatisfactory. Or insufficient. I really hope I get something from my bloods next week.
My sore throat is threatening again.
Anyone else taking half an aspirin? I'm thinking about it

Mittens030869 · 17/05/2020 15:20

Thank you for asking after me, it means a lot. Smile I did think I was improving, and I think I am in some ways. I’m no longer puking, or haven’t for a few days. I haven’t had my airways blocked with phlegm for some time, and I’m having fewer coughing fits, though they still happen sometimes. But my temperature still goes up in the afternoon or evening, it went up to 37.9 this afternoon, and I was sweating badly. I’ve taken paracetamol and it’s come down.

I’ll call the GP tomorrow. I was supposed to get a chest X-ray, which has seemingly fallen by the wayside. The problem is that the longer it goes on for, the more the pessimism overtakes me.

My DDs are okay, thankfully. My DH took them to the park yesterday afternoon, which was lovely for them and gave me some peace and quiet. DD2 had a call from her best friend and they played on roblox.

I had a call out of the blue from a close friend yesterday, which made my day. Smile

Little things mean a lot at the moment and keep me from getting too sad about all this.

Moodgie · 17/05/2020 15:20

Day 72 and a rubbish one. Usual runny tummy and nausea in the morning, then felt spaced out, mental fog - ish. Breathing now feels like someone is pressing on my throat, sats ok. Really scared today and sad and everything in between.

hollieberrie · 17/05/2020 15:24

@godhelpusall i know, me too! The last few days.. despair but today i feel a little brighter. That Telegraph article about the virus possibly burning itself out has cheered me.

What did they test for on your bloods? Will be great for you to know whats going on. Although never sure if "all fine" is a better or worse scenario!

Its a private ENT appointment. I just emailed all the ENTs i could find in the area and this one seemed the most helpful. I'm desperate to get ears sorted if i can! Am seeing a cranial osteopath on Mon and then the call with ENT on Tues. I suspect they both may agree with the GP that i just need to do steam inhalations etc and wait it out but i wanted to try everything.

godhelpusall · 17/05/2020 15:25

@hollieberrie which article?

Egghead68 · 17/05/2020 15:29

@user34254356 I read that the four coronavirus that cause colds (and one article says may confer some protection against covid-19 if contracted in the last six months) are:
229E (alpha coronavirus)
NL63 (alpha coronavirus)
OC43 (beta coronavirus)
HKU1 (beta coronavirus)
Not all colds are caused by coronaviruses though.

hollieberrie · 17/05/2020 15:30

This one:
www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2020/05/16/coronavirus-could-burn-naturally-vaccine-not-needed-former-director/

I thought someone had linked to it, but actually maybe i saw it on a different MN thread. Apparently some other scientists in Sweden and Israel have also expressed their belief that this could happen.

hollieberrie · 17/05/2020 15:34

@Mittens030869 Thank god the puking has stopped. That must be one of the worst symptoms. Hope you can get your chest xray sorted.
Agree about the little things, i'm so sick of being on my own but have been chatting more with friends today which has also given me a boost.

Sorry you are having a bad day @Moodgie I felt like that the last few days, so scared and sad. Sending you a virtual hug. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day. Its constant ups and downs i find and the downs are very hard to take.

alittleprivacy · 17/05/2020 16:19

@user34254356 what are the 4 cold causing corona issues? i though only SARS and MERS were coronavirus

There are 7 known coronaviruses. SARS-Cov1, MERS, SARS-Cov-2 (this one) and 4 others which cause common colds. Most colds are caused by rhinoviruses but some are caused by coronaviruses. The Crotty study I linked to tested the immune responses of people who had mild Covid19 and found an excellent immune response in all patients. They also tested the immune response of people who had colds very recently and they also had a robust response to SARS-Cov-2. This could potentially help with vaccine production, remember how Edward Jenner used Cowpox as a vaccine against Smallpox, though obviously any use of mild coronavirus in a vaccine would be much more sophisticated today.

Moominmamma33 · 17/05/2020 16:23

@Moodgie I'm with you and the way you feel Flowers, I am also very sad and very scared, been so tearful and fragile in the last couple of days which is not normal for me. My temp is now 38, despite two paracetamol two hours ago! Phoning my GP in the morning, not with any hope of any help, but just so they can keep a record of all this and it might help others.

Moodgie · 17/05/2020 16:33

Thanks @moominmamma33 and @hollieberrie. Would love to hear some positive stories from early contributors who haven’t been posting for a while.

Linus1972 · 17/05/2020 16:38

@hollieberrie I'm sorry to hear they've upped your meds. I had a chat with my GP on Friday and we were in two minds about upping them (I'm currently on the lowest dose of ramipril). My BP hasn't really changed in the 2 weeks I've been on it (still around 145/95 - for my age it should be 127/84). At least my average heart rate has gone down from 82bpm to 77bpm and I've felt that pounding feeling less this month compared to April, I'm getting a bit more sleep each night and I haven't had a headache for 5 days. We went back and forth for a bit on the phone and I decided to keep things as they are for another 2 weeks. I suspect I am going to have to double the dosage in a fortnight. My BMI is 25 and I (used) to exercise quite a bit and have always eaten healthily. I'd love to start exercising again and although I feel like I have a lot of energy, it runs out quickly, leaving me breathless and exhausted. Even if I can get through a long walk (say 6000 steps) without feeling tired, my chest starts hurting from the costochondritis, and if I really push it, the next day I have headaches/light-headedness.

If I stay indoors, take ibuprofen, paracetamol, cough medicine, Gavascon and Nexium, avoid certain foods and eat slowly I can avoid most pain and convince myself I am on the mend. But I can't tell if I'm just learning how to avoid flare-ups or medicating the worst of it away. Recovery, if it is happening, feels like it's at a snail's pace at best.

Meercatmama · 17/05/2020 16:38

Good afternoon
So sorry lots of you are feeling not so good. See I am following my husbands advice evaluate how you feel and how did feel when you are really ill. Yesterday had a down day as I was very tired felt a bit breathless so following his advice did nothing really, Today energetic did some shopping quickly I had to because my mum needed some things. Husband felt tight chested and breathless spent the morning resting drinking lots of fluids. Both if us took the shopping to mum spent time in a garden socially distancing as we can go round the side entrance and not into her house, had a good chat. Both of us feel good now. Spent the afternoon in the garden, some minor gardening and some wine and beer, We tried it last night and we are fine. I just looked up and saw my husband on the patio reading the paper and it looked for a while just like any Sunday afternoon on our own. I never thought in the last 9 weeks I would say that again, We are not out of the woods completely we know that we are going to relapses but boy am I going to continue his programme of getting back to normal health as he is two weeks behind me and in a far better place mentally and health wise despite having serious other conditions. See my pervious post on Friday about what he thinks and does. It might help or it might not, Just to say it does get better. Try to enjoy the sunshine and fresh air and really hope you all feel better

LetsBeSensible · 17/05/2020 16:53

@UtterlyPerfectCartoonGiraffe
Thanks for that info.
I wish to return my corona virus. I will accept an exchange for the one that just silently judges me. Thanks.

UtterlyPerfectCartoonGiraffe · 17/05/2020 17:23

Lets Grin

musicposy · 17/05/2020 17:45

Much like cats and lions are both felines. A lion will kill you, but a domestic cat will just treat you as a disappointing inconvenience. Grin That’s so true. I need a laugh at the moment!

@godhelpusall symptoms are generally feeling fluey, terrible fatigue, racing heart whenever I do anything, sore throat which comes and goes, last few nights a bit of a spikey temperature in the evening, today a really bad headache for the first time in weeks. It seems to be a real pic n mix of symptoms. Today I’m not suffering from shortness of breath, chest pain, too much in the way of pins and needles or cough, but who knows, they might just as easily be back tomorrow. I just never know what I’m going to wake up with. Definitely in a day 65-70 dip though as I had a few better days and the last three or four have been horrible.

It helps so much reading all the positive articles posted on here - and the articles that remind me I’m not alone!
