We'll find out if there will be a second peak soon and that's what the government intended by changing the rules/ slogan.

I've just walked through the park near our house and almost no one is complying with social distancing rules, I've seen today.

Big groups of teenagers and young adults drinking and smoking and sunbathing.

Adult friends sitting together on benches letting their kids hug each other.

So many people out walking that it is almost impossible to socially distance without getting run over.

Multigenerational groups, grandparents, parents and children ignoring social distancing.

I am sure that the government is trying to force the second peak early summer, if it comes I don't think the schools' will be having kids back in June.

Seems pretty likely.

Mamamia456 · 14/05/2020 15:23

Where abouts do you live? Nothing like that where I am. A few more people about but everybody keeping their distance.

ChocChip01 · 14/05/2020 15:24

Better to peak in the summer than the winter/autumn I guess...Confused

Whatsthis1515 · 14/05/2020 15:24

Definitely not like that where we live .

cantdothisnow1 · 14/05/2020 15:24

small town in the West Midlands. It's like a school holiday or the park just after school in normal times, really shocking difference from the start of the week.

And so many on here are rubbing their hands in glee at the prospect, it's disgusting.

Baseline2815 · 14/05/2020 15:31

Second peak? Wasn't aware we'd passed the first. That chart of daily cases on Worldometer looks like a plateu.

Fortyfifty · 14/05/2020 15:33

That's a shame. I've had one socially distanced walk with a friend around a deserted green. It's all I will do. I've no idea when I'll be able to see my mum again, who lives 100s of miles away.

It would be useful if we were all singing from the same hymn sheet so we aren't all paying the long continual price for those who make up their own rules.

LemonyCupcake · 14/05/2020 15:33

Yep - of course they want a second , evenly spread throughout the UK second peak

Why else would they encourage people to go on day trips ?

cantdothisnow1 · 14/05/2020 15:34

Baseline2815 yes you've got a point there.

I guess 600 odd deaths a day is less than the 1000 that were recorded a couple of weeks ago.

If there is virus in our area though it will be spreading. Not much staying alert was going on (whatever that means!)

I do wonder if I might need to get some t shirts printed for when we go out for a walk as a multi generational group saying something like "granny lives with us" to avoid judgement.

cantdothisnow1 · 14/05/2020 15:43

EndoplasmicReticulum of course it may account for some of the intergenerational groups but not in the numbers that I saw this afternoon. Not in this area.

We work from home, get shopping delivered as i am vulnerable health wise (possibly should be on the shielded list according to hospital specialist but have yet to receive a letter). I wasnt going for a walk initially but I felt so ill I have reintroduced this and either go early on or late and whilst i am friendly to anyone i meet by smiling, saying hello/good morning or thank you (for moving out of the way) from a distance I probably still aim for a 3M or 4M distance. But yes i think they the government definitely want a second wave and judging by the things being reported on social media and the comments I think plenty of people are helping to oblige with this. In fact I think we will be headed there much sooner than anyone thinks.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 14/05/2020 15:47

Nothing like that in my area either. East Midlands town, went to the park earlier and everyone was complying with distancing.

Givenupno · 14/05/2020 15:47

There was always going to be a second, and third, and fourth peak. I am not sure anyone ever thought otherwise.

Everyone is going to get it, it’s just a case of spreading it out and the first peak was nowhere near what was anticipated.

My guess (and it is a guess) is that loads more people than we realise have had it anyway - most without any symtoms

NoCaseToAnswer · 14/05/2020 15:48

Some MNetters have been saying this from day 1 of lockdown and we haven't had the 'peaks' they were predicting.

With more people using public transport and going back to work are we likely to see an increase? Yes.

cantdothisnow1 · 14/05/2020 15:50

Glad that others are not seeing the same in their areas.

Our town must be full of people who don't understand the rules then!

OP posts:
MarshaBradyo · 14/05/2020 15:50

People still moving apart from each other on pavements here. More masks than before. Waiting to go into the small shop 3 at a time. Not sure about the park though.

cantdothisnow1 · 14/05/2020 15:52

NoCaseToAnswer don't you think we've had a peak then with over 30,000 deaths and the 2nd highest death rate in the world?

What do you think amounts to a peak?

OP posts:
Abbccc · 14/05/2020 15:53

Well, the government isn't forcing a second peak. People are deciding to act against the advice. People need to take responsibility for their own behaviour. The government shouldn't have to keep people locked up in their homes to stop them from hugging, getting too close etc.

Hadenoughfornow · 14/05/2020 15:53

And these people will be the ones shouting loudest that the schools need to stay closed......

cantdothisnow1 · 14/05/2020 15:57

People have probably not considered much more than the fact that they are allowed to drive wherever they want to exercise, they can exercise as much as they want and they can sunbathe.

Hadenoughfornow agree they probably will be the same people. I heard a child exclaim to his mother that 'it's just like the holidays' when he went through the park gate on his scooter!

OP posts:
glitterelf · 14/05/2020 15:59

Just the last two days I've noticed a massive increase in people out and about and not sticking to social distancing. My neighbour has had a friend round on both days all day and the neighbours over the road have had mass gatherings in their front garden.
People just don't seem to understand that whilst certain restrictions have been lifted they should still be sticking to certain rules. This selfishness is playing a major factor in my decision not to send my YR 1 child back should they announce that schools will reopen on the 28th May.

cantdothisnow1 · 14/05/2020 15:59

Abbccc relaxing restrictions while the r rate is still high is going to increase the rate of the virus whether people follow the rules to the letter or not.

Added to that the message is vague.

People breaking the rules will of course speed up an, inevitable, second peak.

Cant we have the issue with loading up huge costs whilst the economy falters. It’s a difficult situation. What would you do?
