We'll find out if there will be a second peak soon and that's what the government intended by changing the rules/ slogan.

I've just walked through the park near our house and almost no one is complying with social distancing rules, I've seen today.

Big groups of teenagers and young adults drinking and smoking and sunbathing.

Adult friends sitting together on benches letting their kids hug each other.

So many people out walking that it is almost impossible to socially distance without getting run over.

Multigenerational groups, grandparents, parents and children ignoring social distancing.

I am sure that the government is trying to force the second peak early summer, if it comes I don't think the schools' will be having kids back in June.

It was the same near me. I nipped to the local butchers and the shopping precinct was as busy as pre lock down

feelingverylazytoday · 14/05/2020 18:59

Everyone still socially distancing here, just as they've been doing for the last 7 weeks.
The shops are nice and orderly, wish they'd stay like that, tbh, though obviously I don't want the retail trade to suffer.

myangelalex · 14/05/2020 19:01

I'm not sure how the government have engineered a second peak in early summer? 🤷🏻‍♀️

The rules are to not gather in groups, maintain social distancing and so on.

Of course, people can't possibly making their own choices to break rules?

Well behaved round our way.

Expat30 "Coming from living in a country on total lockdown" Which country is that? Maybe you meant 'fairly strict' lockdown?

LastTrainEast · 14/05/2020 19:24

I'd like to know how the government were "encouraging street parties" too.

HairyFloppins · 14/05/2020 19:27

Streets are busier here. But social distancing still being observed. DD met her friend today and they were 2m apart. It will do everyone good to get outside.

NoHardSell · 14/05/2020 19:36

The factors which reduce the numbers of deaths are factors like ..having enough beds and medical staff to treat non covid emergencies and covid admissions. Autumn winter hospitals can run at something like 95-99% capacity. That's without covid related admissions.

Since yesterday I've noticed a massive increase in traffic on the road and people out and about.

It's a seaside area and people are definitely liking the new rule of travel as far as you like for excercise Hmm

I've seen a lot of loaded up vehicles today.

Tbh with over 70s not going out flu season shouldnt be busy this year. And with masks on care home staff etc.
Also if every syarts taking vit d maybe that will help too

Redolent · 15/05/2020 03:01

The government implicitly encouraged street parties by making no mention of social distancing on VE Day. They had no problem telling us to stay at home on Mother’s Day, on Easter, during Ramadan. Omission is just as important as active instruction.

LadyofTheManners · 15/05/2020 06:56

Trust me @Redolent the police don't give a shit if people break it due to Ramadan. Seen it myself.
I firmly believe that the Police have been stood down.

cantdothisnow1 · 15/05/2020 08:59

The current guidelines are so hard to police. They can't be everywhere. Add to that an unclear message and a thinly veiled class divide (given that you are more likely to be at risk if working class), it must be deliberate. There are behaviourists on the government panel. Scotland and Wales have the same scientific advice but are giving a clearer message.

I agree with you Redolent.
