If the government restrictions stayed in place?

So until May 2022.

OP posts:

No way. My mental health will suffer and I will end up dead from something not Covid related.

Sorry to sound blunt, but it's true. I'm struggling already.

Iwalkinmyclothing · 13/05/2020 13:45

Who made you the forum police, IncrediblySad? There is a report button to use if you think anyone is posting outwith the Talk guidelines; MNHQ are perfectly capable of deciding whether a thread is appropriate or not.

And aren't most of us on MN to alleviate boredom? Hmm

thecatsthecats · 13/05/2020 13:45

The last country in lockdown for a year? Our lockdown was shorter and less severe and we're already considering lifting restrictions.

As soon as there's a reasonable chance to do so, I'm visiting my parents. (Midlands - Lake District). Both households are able to fully isolate from others (in fact, their household is permanently a minimum of 200y from any other house as it is...), they can work from home fully. I can make the trip in one go and we'll isolate thoroughly before and after.

I'm not going to break the law to do so, but as I say, as soon as I can reasonably interpret the law and risk, I will go. When it comes to assessing the risk, my mum has a degree specialism in viral epidemiology, so I'll be happy to take her opinion over that of random Mumsnetters.

Anniesnotmydaddy · 13/05/2020 13:45

Absolutely not. Life is for living and this is not a life.

And there is no magic money tree.

Pollyputthepizzaon · 13/05/2020 13:46

Absolutely not. It would be sacrificing the younger generation for the old, which is unacceptable. Even the elderly people in my family agree with that.

SeeWhoRustsFirst · 13/05/2020 13:46

No. But there seem to be people who would like to martyr themselves to an eternity effectively in prison, doesn't there?

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 13/05/2020 13:47

I sort of would be, but I don't think it's actually possible, OP.

begladtoseethebackoff2020 · 13/05/2020 13:49

This has to be a joke. Lock down for 2 years? How do you expect the country to fund itself? The reality is we'd run out of money, and food way before 2022, and the resulting social unrest would pretty much topple what was left of society. Did anyone notice what was happening in southern Italy recently?

I think economics should be a compulsory subject at school.

CrystalTipped · 13/05/2020 13:50

Well not really. But those saying they'd rather die - the issue with that is that on your way to dying you'll encounter other people, like NHS staff, and they could end up dying too.

Lynda07 · 13/05/2020 13:50

Yes I would be quite happy as long as still received my pension and had grocery and other deliveries.

I am however sad for those who are long distance from those they love (my son being one).

Whatthefoxgoingon · 13/05/2020 13:50

No. But there seem to be people who would like to martyr themselves to an eternity effectively in prison, doesn't there?

Yup. They also want everyone else to risk the virus, establish herd immunity and then they will come out when there is no further risk to them.

Reginabambina · 13/05/2020 13:51

Lol no. I’ll just move.

IcedPurple · 13/05/2020 13:51

But those saying they'd rather die - the issue with that is that on your way to dying you'll encounter other people, like NHS staff, and they could end up dying too.

But whose going to pay for those NHS staff if people aren't working and paying taxes?

Sadie789 · 13/05/2020 13:53

No way.

People are already pushing the boundaries on a daily basis so the vast majority of the population wouldn't either.

Pointless even asking the question as it would never happen anyway.

slipperywhensparticus · 13/05/2020 13:53

It wont happen the worst that will happen is rolling lockdown of hotspots sort of contain the threat then move on

IcedPurple · 13/05/2020 13:53

Yes I would be quite happy as long as still received my pension and had grocery and other deliveries.

7 weeks of lockdown have already caused a signficant downturn in the economy. 2 years and there won't be any money left to pay your pension.

misssoaps · 13/05/2020 13:54

Absolutely not.

begladtoseethebackoff2020 · 13/05/2020 13:54

'Yes I would be quite happy as long as still received my pension and had grocery and other deliveries.'

... and you really think that is likely if the country is economically stagnant for 2 years? Really????

Annamaria14 · 13/05/2020 13:55

Ireland's lockdown is going on until August. We started in March.

I am already thinking that I absolutely cannot bear another three months of lockdown. Everywhere is still totally shut.

We are having one of the strictest lockdowns. Other countries have eased restrictions. If flights are moving at all next month, I am going to try to get out of the country.

I cannot bear it anymore. I really felt suicidal yesterday. I cant do this for another three months

BuffaloCauliflower · 13/05/2020 13:55

People die. That’s a fact of life, none of us make it out alive. Very few of us would choose to spend the years we have in relative prison, that’s no kind of life. You could choke on your dinner and die tomorrow. Stay in your house forever if you want, I don’t want a life where I can’t see friends or family, or ever go to work, or take my children out to do things. What’s the point of a life like that?

amijustparanoidorjuststoned · 13/05/2020 13:55

@begladtoseethebackoff2020 I actually haven't read about what's happening in Southern Italy... what's happening?

I mean I can guess, unfortunately. Such a horrible class divide between the north and south.

IcedPurple · 13/05/2020 13:56

We are having one of the strictest lockdowns

Not at all. Ireland's lockdown is nowhere near as strict as Spain or Italy, let alone Wuhan.

Megatron · 13/05/2020 13:57

Well, if I had to.

I'm shielding at the moment because of my health but I can see a time that I, and many others in this situation, will just need to take our chances, protect ourselves with social distancing/handwashing etc and hope for the best.

FirstTimeMum54321 · 13/05/2020 13:57

How on earth do you think the economy would survive??

This crises has definitely highlighted the lack of intelligence in our society.

wizzbangfizz · 13/05/2020 13:57

Absolutely not
