Shame we don't have an election for ages.

But great to finally have some opposition to this government again, particularly as UK deaths overtake every other country in the world apart from the Us, that has a population 5 times as big.

Whereas 40% think Starmer is and 44% are undecided. With just 17% thinking he’s doing badly or very badly. Like a pp I don’t think that poll is telling you what you hope it is.

Different questions were asked - I might say Keir Starmer is doing fairly well as leader of the Labour Party (compared to Jeremy Corbyn - definitely) - I'm not going to vote for him.

FliesandPies · 13/05/2020 14:41

19% of respondents think that Johnson is doing very badly shock That is a terrible result.

Not if they are Labour/Lib Dem voters any way

All those polls you post and swear by, as soon as one pops up that says something you don't like you try to dismiss it, so predictable.

RainMustFall · 13/05/2020 14:46

What's the source for this info? Cloud Cuckoo Land?

Interesting info, Clavinova thank you.

Labour supporters are in a bubble on MN - they are a majority and appear to imagine what they post and read on here is reality whereas out in the real world, where it matters, Labour were decimated in the last election. I'm sure Sir Kier is lovely, let's face it, he couldn't be worse than his predecessor but his policies haven't changed and they will render Labour unelectable.

Alsohuman · 13/05/2020 14:49

Given that we haven’t seen a Starmer driven manifesto, I assume you’re using your crystal ball. He’s already repudiated the last manifesto, by the way.

FliesandPies · 13/05/2020 14:54

RainMustFall
I imagine the source for the info is the same as the info you have just thanked Clavinova for. lol.

Johnson is a disgrace and everyone is starting to realise it. We won't have a Labour gov but the Tories will have to stay and be held to account for all their incompetence and deceit.

FloggingMoll · 13/05/2020 14:57

I've always been a Labour voter but have actually joined the party on the basis of Starmer as leader. Johnson is shambolic. Surely he should know not to fuck with a lawyer.

chomalungma · 13/05/2020 15:00

The next election is some years away.

Meanwhile, the Conservative party have got a large hill to climb when it comes to fulfulling the spending promises they outlined when it comes to the red wall.

It's going to be an interesting couple of years. We have a decent opposition and a country and an economy that will be hit by this pandemic and which has exposed the fragility of parts of our economy and the underlying social structures.

The title of this thread is; 'Keir Starmer's popularity ratings now higher than Boris Johnson's' - that's an odd way to interpret the poll results above: BJ 57%, KS 40%.

GrimmsFairytales · 13/05/2020 15:02

I’m relieved to finally have an affective opposition leader

Indeed, and it's refreshing to listen to him speak, clear, precise and no waffle.

threecee · 13/05/2020 15:05

Do his fans on here know about it though ?

QuentinWinters · 13/05/2020 15:06

I love him. He already had big brownie points with me before he became a politician, on getting the CPS to overhaul rape prosecutions. He comes across as someone who actually wants to do the best for the country, rather than himself. I think he is the first politician I actively want to be prime minister.

threecee · 13/05/2020 15:08

Wiki doesn't mention Jimmy Saville I notice.

FloggingMoll · 13/05/2020 15:35

@threecee I know exactly what you're talking about. Starmer himself has discussed it. He didn't have personal involvement with the case but commissioned a review of the process and apologised for it. Not sure what the point in rehashing a years-old conspiracy theory. What happened in the Saville case was and will always be horrifying. But Starmer has acknowledged that.

Alsohuman · 13/05/2020 15:46

Just in case anyone’s interested in the Saville reference.

Any port in a storm..

ethelredonagoodday · 13/05/2020 16:09

Same as @FloggingMoll I've been a labour supporter most of my life, but have just joined the party.

Namechangervaver · 13/05/2020 16:14

I love him ❤️
Boris must be crapping himself. He can no longer get away with being a bumbling oaf. What a shock it must be for him!

I just watched some clips from today's PMQs on the news. Boris denied something that Keir accused him of. Keir then wrote him a letter saying he expects him to come back and correct his inaccuracy. Proper courtroom stuff. Amazing Grin

TheWordWomanIsTaken · 13/05/2020 16:28

I'm beyond pleased that the flimflam man is now being held to account.
What good opposition should be doing.
It wouldn't surprise me if Boris Johnson resigned tbh, quoting health and time with his family (ahem).

Annamaria14 · 13/05/2020 16:42

I love that he worked to eradicate the death penalty in three countries.

What a man.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 13/05/2020 16:44

@YappityYapYap

Not to me, I think he's a twat. Demanded a rushed road map and is now moaning about it.

As Leader of the Opposition, it's perfectly reasonable to request that the Government explain their plan, then highlight the fact that they produced a pile of contradictory, shambolic shit.

As for 'rushed' - they've had weeks and weeks to come up with something, also had the benefit of watching umpteen other countries in Europe having to lead the way, but no, they produced an utterly incoherent mess of a plan that any schoolchild would have spotted the obvious flaws in.

YappityYapYap · 13/05/2020 16:53

He was asking for the road map out of lockdown weeks a go when the death rate was at almost 900 people per day. It wasn't the right time to push for an exit plan when there wasn't even a good 'keep people alive plan'. The man is an idiot, just like Boris. They haven't much of a clue about anything other than point scoring.

What is the point in acting as the 'opposition' when we're no where near a general election and in the middle of a pandemic. I see he's had no bright ideas. Just another mouth almighty to pay for Hmm

dolorsit · 13/05/2020 16:59

The job of the opposition is to hold the government of the day to account for their actions. I think it is pretty important in the middle of a pandemic.

Now who would win a nitpicking fight over the meaning of answers to questions between a distinguished QC and former DPP and a hack journo sacked for making up quotes?

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 13/05/2020 17:02

@YappityYapYap

The point of an opposition is to hold a government to account, act as a check and balance. That doesn't stop just because the next General Election is years away. As it happens, there's no guarantee that's the case anyway.

Look at their respective CV's, listen to each man speak, critically examine each with regard to their past behaviours, and you'll see that claiming 'the man is an idiot, just like Boris" is complete and utter nonsense.

I'm not a Labour voter, but it's crystal clear that Starmer possesses more credibility, easily projects more confidence and competence than Boris, or anyone else in the clown troupe that makes up our excuse for a 'government'.

Having a plan for keeping people alive, and also having one for a route out of lockdown are not mutually exclusive phenomenon. It's no surprise Boris and his lackeys can't even manage the first, never mind both. Absolutely proper that the LotO should be nailing Boris's balls to the wall at every single opportunity.
