Shame we don't have an election for ages.

But great to finally have some opposition to this government again, particularly as UK deaths overtake every other country in the world apart from the Us, that has a population 5 times as big.

He's the Prime minister bit of pmqs Proppedupinbed so he kind of has to.
Unless he can find another excuse.

That's the point. He has done relatively few. Fair enough he was sick, then his partner conveniently had the baby on a Wednesday, but before then he was on holiday for a couple of sessions. Somehow he has done a lot less than the number of weeks he has been prime minister and parliament has been open.

MurrayTheMonk · 13/05/2020 12:59

That actual Christ. I don't especially trust it but does it mean that people are beginning to see the light? I truly hope so.

B1rdbra1n · 13/05/2020 13:08

Boris will have to drop the bumbling plummy act because it just doesn't work against Keir Starmer, I wonder what the replacement persona will look like?

Clavinova · 13/05/2020 13:15

Keir Starmer's popularity ratings now higher than Boris Johnson's

I wouldn't get too excited - YouGov were asking different questions:

Do you think Keir Starmer is doing well or badly as leader of the Labour Party?

Very well 8% - disappointing?
Fairly well 32%
Fairly badly 10%
Very badly 7%
Don't know 44%

Do you think Boris Johnson is doing well or badly as Prime Minister?

Very well 23% - Leave voters 42%
Fairly well 34% - Leave voters 43%
Fairly badly 16% - Leave voters 6%
Very badly 19% - Leave voters 6%
Don't know 7% - Leave voter 3%

A lot of Boris' popularity will have been helped by a full house during Parliament sessions. When this is taken away it really shows how bad he is at communicating and is completely out of his depth.

Starmer does seem to be a fantastic opponent, clear and interrogating thoroughly.

Clavinova · 13/05/2020 13:34

Starmer does seem to be a fantastic opponent

Looking at those poll results, not many people think he is 'fantastic'.

Proppedupinbed · 13/05/2020 13:37

Not that many people watch prime minister's questions.

chomalungma · 13/05/2020 13:43

Bless.

The only opinion poll that matters is the election whenever it happens.

This crisis is showing Johnson for what he is. A liar. A charlatan. The more it goes on, the more holes he digs for himself.

He is avoiding scrutiny - when was the last time he gave a proper interview to a TV or radio outlet?

chomalungma · 13/05/2020 13:47

One thing is for certain - many people have an opinion on Boris Johnson

Keir Starmer has only been in the job for a month or so. The Conservatives have had a lot of air time - for obvious reasons.

I am not sure if all this airtime is a good thing for them - they are certainly being scrutinised a lot.

FliesandPies · 13/05/2020 13:56

19% of respondents think that Johnson is doing very badly Shock That is a terrible result.

44% of respondents answered 'don't know' in respect of Starmer so he's got a lot of room for improvement, far more than Johnson has.

FairIsleViking · 13/05/2020 13:58

That C&P doesn't say what you think it says, Clav.

Right on cue though, respect.

chomalungma · 13/05/2020 13:59

Losing the Daily Express?

What a man Keir is.

A human rights lawyer,
Was the director of public prosecutions,
Won best QA of the year in his legal career
Has worked to end the death penalty in three countries

He is ten steps higher in evolution, than Boris and Trump

B1rdbra1n · 13/05/2020 14:07

Let's hope Keir Starmer can hold his feet to the fire such that Boris Johnson has to up his game and become a better version of himself.

MrsMGE · 13/05/2020 14:08

Starmer has all the leadership qualities that Boris is missing and it's becoming so obvious now. I think if he keeps holding Johnson to account and also develops a strong programme as to how to get out of the crisis we're in long-term, he stands a very good chance to be a PM. He's votable, unlike Corbyn. I wish him well, finally there's a sensible opposition leader.

Clavinova · 13/05/2020 14:20

19% of respondents think that Johnson is doing very badly shock That is a terrible result.

Not if they are Labour/Lib Dem voters any way.

Clavinova · 13/05/2020 14:20

anyway

Clavinova · 13/05/2020 14:23

What a man Keir is.

Unfortunately he wants to give EU citizens the right to vote in UK general elections which isn't a vote winner in my opinion.

Alsohuman · 13/05/2020 14:24

It is if you don’t want a Tory government.

Clavinova · 13/05/2020 14:28

Luckily 57% in the poll above still think Boris Johnson is doing very well or fairly well.

cotswoldsapple · 13/05/2020 14:31

what @anna said : human rights lawyer, former director of public prosecutions, amazing counsel, won best Qc of the year in his legal career, has worked to end the death penalty in three countries, just got Boris called back to the Commons over carehomes-covid-facemask inaccuracy … and was allegedly the inspiration for bridget's mr darcy Smile

Proppedupinbed · 13/05/2020 14:31

*Has worked to end the death penalty in three countries"

When he asks questions you can see his experience in his attention to detail. Chicken or the egg - did his career train his meticulousness or did his meticulousness lead to his career?

Anyway, the opposite can be seen of Boris that he was a fly-by-the-seat-of-his-pants journalist who uses vagueness to obscure and distract. Again chicken or the egg?

Alsohuman · 13/05/2020 14:33

Luckily 57% in the poll above still think Boris Johnson is doing very well or fairly well

Whereas 40% think Starmer is and 44% are undecided. With just 17% thinking he’s doing badly or very badly. Like a pp I don’t think that poll is telling you what you hope it is.

YappityYapYap · 13/05/2020 14:38

Not to me, I think he's a twat. Demanded a rushed road map and is now moaning about it. Why exactly are we paying these people to argue with each other and score points in a room together? Really odd. I sometimes think our government resembles role play that kids do when they're primary school age. It's bizarre
