another week another argument with OH he’s determined to bring the kids to his mums tomorrow they’ve organised it behind my back he’s just said to me now I’m going to pop over my mums with the kids tomorrow.

I feel like I’m being controlling but then my mum hasn’t seen the kids either. What are others doing?

No but am planning a socially distanced walk next week. We will have to drive some distance (they are 50 miles away) and likely one will sit in the car while I do a walk with the other then swap over!

cadburyegg · 12/05/2020 19:54

No. My mum has been dropping some bits to us as she comes to our Tesco to do the weekly shop. So technically I have “seen” her from our window. But I am hoping to meet her as per the new guidelines soon although not sure how I will fit it in with everything else I need to!

Ps,
Locally it is entirely normal (not for me as family not local) to drive round to family, probably under the guise of “dropping something off”, then having a socially distanced chat in the front garden. Sometimes with chairs and cups of tea.
I don’t think that’s technically against any rules and they are always several feet apart.

Terriblehairdontcare · 12/05/2020 19:57

No. I've dropped stuff off a few times as has dh with his family. But definitely not gone in or got close.

Megan2018 · 12/05/2020 19:57

No, even though it is breaking my heart (they are missing their first and only grandchild’s first year).
We won’t see them until it is allowed AND we judge ourselves that the risk is worth it.

lotusbell · 12/05/2020 20:01

I only really have my dad and he lives less than a minutes walk away. I'm wfh and have been getting his daily paper, dropping off his shopping and talking to him.in his garden. I have a brother who lives locally but we are NC. Only other family we have seen have been exh, his wife and son, when they have been to pick DS13 up. The little lad was v poorly in.March and they think he had it, so they did their 14 days of self isolation.
No one else near to me to see but I may be going back to work beginning of June.

EstuaryBird · 12/05/2020 20:02

As my only living relative is a 96 year old aunt in Australia...no, I am not visiting family Grin

Lumene · 12/05/2020 20:03

No but since the Boris speech fiasco I know at least one person I would never have thought would do this who had friends for coffee in their home (2m distance). This is someone who is supposed to be shielding!

Lumene · 12/05/2020 20:04

If family were nearer I would do the allowed 1:1 2m apart outside though

flirtingwith40 · 12/05/2020 20:06

Yes! I go round and sit in my Moms garden and socially distance. Planning on doing the same with friends over the weekend.

I live alone and this is killing me. If It's safe for me to go to work then it's safe for me to do this:

DamnYankee · 12/05/2020 20:07

Doesn't sound like he's willing to listen to anything other than his DM at the moment.
Practically, though, how would you prevent him?
Are you trying to decide to take them to see your DM based on his actions? "If he can, then I can," etc., which is a totally fair thing to ask.
I don't have that temptation. My family is states away. I guess if a family member was struggling, I might "socially distance" it.
No easy answers, OP. Sorry!

Dancingalong · 12/05/2020 20:07

I have seen my parents but only at a distance on their driveway or ours. Usually just when we’re on a walk or bike ride or they are on a walk. We have a fair bit of space out the front so plenty of room to keep apart and the kids have been excellent at keeping their distance despite being desperate to hug them. We haven’t been in anybody’s house or had anyone in ours.

IreneWinters · 12/05/2020 20:08

No

ItsNoFromMe · 12/05/2020 20:10

Yes. Have been for a couple of weeks.

MoonBaby1 · 12/05/2020 20:12

Yeah, my mum for a distance walk. She then came back to my garden for a coffee and cuddles my toddler Shock. Also been round my sisters garden whilst the cousins played with each other outside.

rosie39forever · 12/05/2020 20:12

To those who have said yes... 32,000 dead so far does this mean nothing to you. The more everyone just pops round to visit family the longer it will last.

Only social distance but l feel like giving up now tbh as I know so many other people are.

feelingfragile · 12/05/2020 20:19

First time today. Daughter and grandkids came over because they were in our village (they live 40 minutes away). We have different levels in the garden so they stayed on one level and we stayed on the other, so always about 2-5m apart. They stayed for about twenty minutes.

IGottaGetOuttaThisPlace · 12/05/2020 20:19

Nope

Spied · 12/05/2020 20:20

I drop off my shielding parents shopping weekly and they stand at their door while DC and I stand at their gate and have a 5 min chat.
We have not/will not progress to sitting in their garden as I worry they and my DC will become too complacent.(My DM is desperate to hug/touch the DC - as all dgm's will be! and she looks so forward to seeing them and doesn't realise how vulnerable she actually is unfortunately)
If neither grandparent was vulnerable I still don't think I'd be comfortable to be sitting in their garden yet tbh.
Certainly no chance I'd be in agreement to allowing my DC in their house.

Myal · 12/05/2020 20:20

Yes. And have been for weeks.
Mum is shielding but rather than have community carers that have been in and out of other houses my sister and I have decided we will knowing how little interaction we have with others (with the exception of a weekly shop).
We're both careful, wash hands, wear masks and gloves but we drop off shopping, clean and put away and then have a cup of tea but always maintain at least 2 meter distance.
My mum said weeks ago shed rather die a covid death than a lonely one.

Bluewarbler27 · 12/05/2020 20:22

No. My mum has been over once in 7 weeks and she dropped of something outside the house and drove off as she was too emotional ,.
