So who will be returning their children to school in June?

Just that really. Parents of reception, year 1 and year 6, IF schools return on the 1st of June, will you send your child in?

My son is in reception and I would be willing to send him in.

There was far more community transmission in the two weeks before they finished school when it was running rampage with no measures to slow the spread, and the vast majority were happy to send them in then. So why not now?

Theonewiththecat · 11/05/2020 13:09

Yeah. I will.
Work think we will be the first of the shops to open back up. It was reported as of Wednesday we would be open, but Boris didn't announce it.
Anyway, dd will be going back in, she misses being there, she misses seeing people, I need to work- we can't live without both wages.

ifonly4 · 11/05/2020 13:11

Hopefully the unions will be supporting staff so they can work safely, and that'll have a knock on effect regarding how safe the children are

Alakazam8 · 11/05/2020 13:11

Will def be - got a difficult transition to deal with from Primary to secondary (send) so was so relieved when Y6 were included. Feel like they should be prioritised for going back.

Bumpitybumper · 11/05/2020 13:15

Yes I will be sending my child back. The risk to them is miniscule and they would benefit greatly from returning to school.

ChrissieKeller61 · 11/05/2020 13:26

Not a chance

Springhere · 11/05/2020 13:30

My daughter is in y3 so we won't need to make a decision until later. 1st June feels too early for me and I worry about the safety of school staff and possible transmission to vulnerable family members. If UK virus cases drop significantly and proper support is given to schools, we would consider taking her back before the summer holidays.

Haenow · 11/05/2020 13:30

I wonder how many people think it’ll be school as usual because it won’t. They’ll be limited of numbers and probably timings.

usernotfound0000 · 11/05/2020 13:32

haenow surely no one will expect it to be normal? I don't know anyone who isn't expecting reduced class sizes and a part time school week.

oldwhyno · 11/05/2020 13:35

yes, we will if possible. transport not an issue.

cadburyegg · 11/05/2020 13:35

I don’t expect it to be back to a normal school day or timetable. Even just 1-2 days a week would make a massive difference to our ability to get some work done and DS will benefit from the socialisation

SueEllenMishke · 11/05/2020 13:37

If (and it's still a big If) they open then yes my reception aged DS will be going in.
Both me and DH are still working full time from home and it's starting to become unsustainable.

Also, the science actually says that not only are children a very, very, very low risk group ( including those with underlying health issues) but they're low risk in terms of transmission to other people in society. There was an interesting article in the British Medical Journal recently which explained this.

Flippetydip · 11/05/2020 13:37

Yes to sending my Y6. He is desperate to go back and "finish" primary school - although we have had the conversation that it won't be as he might think it's going to be. Also, he has no pre-existing conditions and none of us is vulnerable. I might think twice if that were the case but as it's not I'm desperately praying that nothing goes awry and they can go back.

It means we still have one Y4 child at home but she's less desperate to get back in so better this way round than the other. Had it been y4s in and y6s at home, all hell would've broken loose.

DH is a teacher and the unions have been pissing us both off with the amount of negativity they are spinning regarding it being "unsafe" for everyone and they don't think children should be going back. Both DH and other friends have written to their unions telling them to either support it scientifically or to STFU but so far, no response....

Fleamaker123 · 11/05/2020 13:41

Yes we will, Y6.. Just to finish primary school properly, even just a couple days a week would be fine.

Worriedmum999 · 11/05/2020 13:45

Absolutely not. I feel the first children in will be the guinea pigs and I’m not happy about that.

PeanutDouglas · 11/05/2020 13:46

Yes

Worriedmum999 · 11/05/2020 13:46

I think parliament should go back with the amount of social distancing/shared toilets/eating facilities in a primary school and we’ll see how it goes there first.

mymadworld · 11/05/2020 13:47

Yes my yr 1 and yr 6 will be going in. Siblings not happy but I'm fine with it . I'm a childminder and have been collecting 2 key worker children (parents frontline NHS) and bringing them into our home twice a day 3 days a week so seems a bit pointless not sending mine in.

Drivingdownthe101 · 11/05/2020 13:47

Haenow well no one I know thinks that.

Drivingdownthe101 · 11/05/2020 13:48

Seriously Haenow why the need to knock people all the time.

Ineedtobecalm · 11/05/2020 13:51

I won't be making this decision until much nearer the time when the numbers are available. I've told my year 6 dd this. I'm not bothered about being fined because the numbers of parents keeping their kids off will be so high I doubt they'll follow up on it. I can't see schools opening on June 1st because most schools will struggle with staffing levels.

aliloandabanana · 11/05/2020 13:59

Yes, I'll send mine in as soon as I can (years 2 and 5). They need the routine, some proper teaching and to see their friends. I trust the school to have reasonable measures in place but I don't expect the children to be kept 2m apart at all times. The number of cases in our county is relatively low and we live in a semi-rural area, so I think we are less at risk than others in cities and more densely populated areas.

RickOShay · 11/05/2020 13:59

I’m not sure. Dc3 is year 6. HES worried.
Their grand pa is in hospital with Corona, I think this has had its effect.

Bunting101 · 11/05/2020 14:02

DS is in year 1. We will be sending him back.

MissBehaviour1 · 11/05/2020 14:03

Nope
