So who will be returning their children to school in June?

Bigfishylittlefishy · 11/05/2020 10:45

Just that really. Parents of reception, year 1 and year 6, IF schools return on the 1st of June, will you send your child in?

My son is in reception and I would be willing to send him in.

I don’t have a child in these year groups but I wouldn’t send them if I did.

Those of you who do, beware, it might only be a day or two a week/fortnight that they are offered anyway.

Baker1985 · 11/05/2020 11:34

Am undecided depends on the rate of spread really while my dd 4 has no underlying health issues she does get ill alot chest infections constantly and mild pneumonia twice so it does worry me as to how her body would fight it of if she caught it. If it was my older son then yes he would go bk he never gets ill can't remember last time he had a cold so pretty sure if he caught it he would b fine

Why would I need to beware?

Odd choice of words.

crustycrab · 11/05/2020 11:38

Beware? Confused

I don't know what I'll do at this point. Waiting to see the plans

bettybyebye · 11/05/2020 11:39

Yes I will. Although I have one in reception and one in yr 2, and my yr 2 will be gutted to not be going back as well. Hoping that something can be done with regards to siblings

Fedup21 · 11/05/2020 11:40

Apologies.

Be aware that

Lovemyphone · 11/05/2020 11:44

I think that most people are very aware that it won't just be business as usual for schools.

I am fully expecting that school could be part time/staggered times, smaller groups, and all sorts of other' conditions'.

However I'm not sure why some people are so determined to put up barriers to moving forward on anything.

Beebityboo · 11/05/2020 11:56

I won't be sending my 5yo DD back. She has been ill with back to back viruses since she started reception. She was so ill last year they suspected leukaemia. I won't risk putting her through something like that again for anything as she is still traumatised over all the tests they had to do.
I'm prepared to withdraw her officially if they fight me on it as we're looking to move to another county in the summer anyway so I doubt she'll be returning to the same school in year one.

Remmy123 · 11/05/2020 12:16

Definitely will send my Y6 and nursery age if they open

megladon2020 · 11/05/2020 12:19

I would but my dc isn't in the chosen year groups.

Delatron · 11/05/2020 12:25

Yep my Yr6 will go back. He can walk to school alone and it’s a middle school
So they’ll be the only year in.

Will also mean I can get a bit more work done and focus on Yr5 child at home.

MsMeNz · 11/05/2020 12:28

Ugh torn up I was a yes but have been in hospital for a while now with a kidney issue and I really want to be full recovered before letting my kids out so my body could handle a virus better. But that may take a month or two.

AZP3 · 11/05/2020 12:31

Our school have been told that there will be no more than 15 children in a classroom and that that it will be phased so no likely that all R/1/6 will all be back at the same time. They are waiting on education authority guidance before finalising matters.

usernotfound0000 · 11/05/2020 12:32

I'm waiting to hear how school will manage it but assuming I'm happy with the plans in place, then yes, DD in reception will be returning. Not so sure about DD2 who is 18mths and goes to nursery.

AvoidingRealHumans · 11/05/2020 12:32

I have one in year 1 and one in year 4.
Yes I will be sending them back when I am asked to.
It's funny because all the mums kicking off about returning to school on our schools fb page are stay at home mums, so very easy for them to keep the kids off.
If they HAD to go to work I bet they would have a different view on it.
I work in hospitality so chances are the kids go back before I do, i could kick off and keep them off but risk looking like a mug when i send them in because i have to go to work

aquietlifeplease · 11/05/2020 12:36

Absolutely as soon as I can I'll be sending mine in. Being off school is turning her into a recluse and I can see it becoming a long term issue if she doesn't start going out soon.

MrsCaplan · 11/05/2020 12:37

Me. Y4 DC.

PositiveLife · 11/05/2020 12:44

It will depend on the practicality. Single parent, working full time from home, it's easier if I don't have to take her. I'll wait to hear whether there will be any wraparound care, etc.

CoronaIsComing · 11/05/2020 12:47

I think I’ll have to as I work in a niche area of education and I think they’ll send us back into public once nurseries go back. DS is year 6 so may go back sooner than nurseries but nursery plans haven’t been made clear yet. I’d welcome it if they went back part time at first so DS could do all the transition/ closure things but still be at home part time. I could try to organise my days to work around that.

To be honest, I don’t really think that year 6 need 6 weeks of transition. It should be SATs week next week and then everyone knows that, after SATs it’s mainly more fun activities to keep the children occupied until they leave. I’ve always found that year 6 are ready to leave by Easter and become restless. Personally, I think 2 weeks would be plenty of time to do it all.

Useruseruserusee · 11/05/2020 12:49

Probably not.

I teach Y1 and have a Y1 child. If it’s smaller groups and he isn’t with his regular teacher then I probably won’t send him in. We have a vulnerable toddler at home too so keen to limit family exposure.

I’ll wait to see what his school decides. They are an infant school so two thirds of pupils are theoretically returning, they will need to be in fairly large groups.

Or in alternate days/weeks.

Incrediblytired · 11/05/2020 13:01

Mines in nursery and I’m not sending her if that opens.

Blondieg · 11/05/2020 13:03

I will be. I dont like to think, otherwise, that the next time she is in school it will be straight to high school. I think that would be too big an immediate change for her.

Drivingdownthe101 · 11/05/2020 13:04

Me. Year 1 and reception.

Rowanberries · 11/05/2020 13:04

No. Asthmatic y6 with a history of hospital admissions and I just don't see that the benefits outweigh the risks.
