So who will be returning their children to school in June?

Just that really. Parents of reception, year 1 and year 6, IF schools return on the 1st of June, will you send your child in?

My son is in reception and I would be willing to send him in.

Yes as soon as we can. The risk to children is very low with few reports of transmission to teachers. Some teachers I know are working very hard, others by their own admission are doing very little and taking the piss quite frankly and I'm sceptical as to their reasoning re not wanting to return to work. We risk huge detriment to this generation if they're kept off for an extended period.

Bus drivers and care workers (not qual nurses and drs) highest risk apparently.

BatSegundo · 11/05/2020 19:55

@CallmeAngelina I actually think there will be very little by way of 'rites of passage' for the Y6s going back. They'll want to hug and be close and they won't be able to. If they're in small 'bubble' groups then they won't even be seeing all of their friends. Not sure that visits to secondary schools will go ahead as it's not clear if they'll be open. I'm sure staff will try their best but there won't be the usual celebratory atmosphere, will there?

In this sense, I don't feel so bad that my own child won't be able to go back. What he wants is to have his school social life back as normal plus the activities he's seen previous primary leavers doing. But that's not just not going to be possible for any kids this year. I suspect he'll feel gutted at missing whatever half measures do happen anyway as he's at the age when FOMO starts to bite...

Bus drivers and care workers (not qual nurses and drs) highest risk apparently.

Presumably because they have been working in enclosed spaces with members of the public without any ppe? Which is presumably what we are going to be asking teachers to do?

tilder · 11/05/2020 20:18

Totally agree with @joanneg36.

For those who aren't comfortable with 1 June, am curious what would make you comfortable?

Dd is year 6. Will go back. 6 months without school is a very long time. 23 March to Sept term start is close to that.

No

Yurona · 11/05/2020 20:28

I will send my 3 year odo to childcare. Oldest is in year 2, and will go in as soon as they open. If they catch it, i rather have them catch it in summer than in october...

Whattodowhattodooo · 11/05/2020 20:29

Just had a letter from our Headmaster. He was very frank, and to be perfectly honest doesn't sound happy AT ALL.

Laiste · 11/05/2020 20:30

Those saying no, have we been officially given a choice? Will not sending your child in mean they risk losing their place?

I have a DD in yr 1. She's desperately stir crazy at home and needs the buzz of school. I'm on the fence.

Appuskidu · 11/05/2020 20:36

There will be no fines.

TheHandmaidsVeil · 11/05/2020 20:41

Can someone please link to documentation that says there won't be fines? Sorry if missed and already posted

pfrench · 11/05/2020 20:45

So fed up of all the hysterical, militant people screaming and shouting to get their way.

Why is that related to the question in the OP?
That would suggest that the 'hysterical, militant people screaming and shouting to get their way' got their way, and you're sending your child back to somehow teach them a lesson.

You make no sense, but you seem angry and unpleasant.

imsooverthisdrama · 11/05/2020 20:47

If your are on the fence then look at the figures and the risk do your research.
You don't have to decide today it's 3 weeks away .

TP67 · 11/05/2020 20:50

Don’t think it’s going to be full on teaching for the kids and full classrooms. It most definitely isn’t. My OH is a teacher and they have had an email saying it’s not definite they will be opening yet. There are lots of factors at play and lots of discussions with LEA’s going on.

Zxyzoey31 · 11/05/2020 20:52

Yes. Not a qualm.

Keepgoing88 · 11/05/2020 20:55

Hell yes. I'll be queuing at the gates

KuckFnows · 11/05/2020 21:09

Definitely not

SallyWD · 11/05/2020 21:15

Yes I will.

Ineverdidmind · 11/05/2020 21:18

Yes. My year 6 DS is desperate to get to say goodbye to his class before moving to secondary school, I really hope he gets that opportunity. I believe that the risks are very low, I'm not worried.

YouAreMySunshinee · 11/05/2020 21:26

Yes I will. I think the risk is low for us and he dd really needs to get back

stopandListen · 11/05/2020 21:28

My 2 are at school and have been since lockdown, early years and Y3.

We are both key workers, me frontline so as parents who've not much choice in keeping them off I can honestly say it's absolutely fine, they have fun.

Y3 does some school work, they spend a lot of time outside, I understand those that have underlying health conditions etc but there does seem to be a lot of hysteria over schools returning.

YouAreMySunshinee · 11/05/2020 21:30

@joanneg36 completely agree

Pomegranatepompom · 11/05/2020 21:30

@joanneg36 great post.
