Why are we the only fucking country that isn't reporting on how many people are cured of coronavirus? Surely this would help moral and provide a better picture of the mortality of this disease rather than reporting on just death number? Why are we the only country incapable of this?

According to those figures, nobody in the UK has recovered. Everyone is either an active case, or dead (total cases = active cases plus deaths).
I would be very interested to know how other countries are assessing people as being recovered. Is it when you are discharged from hospital, or if you test negative after testing positive, or X weeks since last showing symptoms? Do all countries use the same criteria?

I have always wondered too why we don't list the number of cases of people who have recovered from Covid 19. It always seems to mean active cases, cases in hospital and deaths, so it looks like one long story of doom and gloom.

It is very weird. I know certain countries are measuring it as 'tests negative'.

Is it something to do with the lack of testing? Fo so long, people were only being tested when in hospital, if at all, maybe after death to see cause of death?
So while people have recovered outside hospital, and inside, and they’ve not been registered as having it. And then there’s the people dying outside hospital too.
All the stats are fucked up because there hasn’t been enough planning by government, just cutting. Please excuse my lower-classness but I think apalling leadership during a pandemic merits stronger language than normal.

I don't think it encourages recklessness. After all the places who are doing well publish this data. Canada, New Zealand etc.

My English teacher used to say that swearing had its place. This is definitely the right place, time and situation for swearing if there ever was one!

I don’t think we have been routinely testing people twice though - assuming that you can only confirm recovery with a negative test following a previous positive test. I mean we have barely been testing people to begin with, let alone testing them twice.

In fact your chart shows that the UK has carried out significantly less tests than other countries. And the countries that have carried out less tests than us haven’t been hit as severely as us.

I’m in Canada and here I believe you have to have two negative tests before you are considered recovered however I’m not sure if this applies to hospitalised people only: ‘before someone is considered recovered, doctors want to see two negative tests, reducing the chance that the first one just missed getting part of the virus that is still there.’

Last time I looked it was 3 days ago and I thought it was a blip, looks like its not.

No idea why not - I asked on the figures thread and someone said lack of testing would make recovery figures redundant/inaccurate - I am interested simply in how many treated in hospital came out again...

It isn't a blip. Testing in the UK is a mess because the government couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery.

But how can you say someone is truly recovered if we do not know as yet the long term health implications,such as permanent loss of lung capacity.

You’re right op. The government isn’t going to “waste” tests on people, who’ve physically recovered to confirm that they’ve recovered. The NHS is on its knees. It is, however, especially pertinent that the correct people are tested after the shit show we’ve witnessed thus far. Ill people are being prioritised, which in context is the correct choice. Much as testing the recovered is a nice to have and may stop the spread of disease in the future, new cases are the priority right now. The government has put the country in firefighting mode as it refused to act proactively. Fucking government that is.

I can't remember what the criteria in NZ is, but each day in the health report they also tell us the percentage of recovered cases, which is encouraging to hear.
