Not that it matters to me personally, being in Scotland but that was just the biggest load of waffley waffle.
Not even a mention of meeting other households.

This is from the BBC live feed:

“There is now a gap between hearing from the prime minister tonight, and getting hold of the 50-ish page document regarding England's lockdown tomorrow.

So, here's what we've gleaned from a government official.

  • Most secondary school pupils in England won't be back in a classroom until September. It is hoped those with exams next year might get to head back before the summer holidays, but there are no specifics on the timing of that
  • Nurseries and primary schools won't re-open until the beginning of next month at the earliest. As and when they do, those in Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 will head back first
  • From Wednesday, in England, there will be no limit on the exercise you go outside to do. You can sit in the park and read. You can sunbathe...
  • You can meet one person from outside your own household if you stay two metres apart
So, you can sit next to a single friend in the park, but you must socially distance
  • And, you can drive to parks and beaches in England but you must socially distance when you get there

For those who are shielding, there is no change in the advice.”

I don't think it was clear at all what did people see on here that I didn't nothing has changed it was rambling and not to the point.

Quarantimespringclean · 10/05/2020 20:26

That announcement was a complete waste of time. The only thing that has changed is limitless outdoor exercise.

My house currently backs on to a construction site. It’s been business as usual the last 8 weeks most of which has been roofing work. That’s fair enough, it’s certainly not something they can do from home. However I can say with absolute certainty there has been no social distancing at all. It makes me envious to see them laughing and chatting as they work and sitting down to their packed lunches when I can’t see my mum, daughter or brother.

And the bullshit about walk or cycle to work if you can! We live in Greater London, a 31 mile commute to the City where we all work. Does he seriously think we’d be paying in excess of £2000 a year for a season ticket to stand on a dirty sweaty train for 40 minutes each way if we could walk or cycle instead? He’s an overprivileged twat who has no conception of how normal people live.

imsooverthisdrama · 10/05/2020 20:26

I agree you would think mixing with family would be mentioned as it's what everyone wants to know, but I understand he didn't because he doesn't know .
Hopefully will hear more soon .

tenterden · 10/05/2020 20:26

he meant instead of staying close to home for exercise you can now drive to a local park/outdoor space, he did not say you can pack up for things for a weekend away and anyone found doing so will hopefully get slapped with a huge fine now rather than a £60 one.

How on earth do you know that's what he meant? We can only go on what he actually said. Don't make things up to suit your own agenda.

JinglingHellsBells · 10/05/2020 20:26

@Crimples

what did you expect?

which bits are confusing you?

I think maybe you watched someone else, not the PM :)

Everything is under constant review.
Today, we have had some tiny tweaks to help get back to some kind of normality.
I wonder what you expect or want or don't understand?

lyralalala · 10/05/2020 20:26

You can meet one person from outside your own household if you stay two metres apart

That's not on the BBC summary now

From Wednesday, people in England will be able to spend more time outdoors "for leisure purposes"
They can "take more and even unlimited amounts of outdoor exercise" rather than only exercising once a day
People will also be free to sit in parks
And they'll be able to "play sports" - although what types are not yet specified - with family members
But social distancing rules - keeping at least two metres away from people outside your household - must still be followed

The Welsh and Scottish governments have said people can exercise outdoors more than once a day from Monday.

PowerStruggle · 10/05/2020 20:27

I think a lot of people want to be wilfully stupid, it is quite clear, even if not what you want to hear.

RedToothBrush · 10/05/2020 20:28

Sam Coates Sky @SamCoatesSky
Additional details from gvt source about Boris Johnson speech

- Unlimited outdoor exercise includes angling, golf, water sports and tennis provided all socially distanced from Wednesday

- Yoh can drive to a park or beach in England but not Wales / Scotland

Additional details from gvt source about Boris Johnson speech

- Primary school reception, year 1 and year 6 will be first in line to return from June 1 if the conditions allow. Other primary pupils hopefully back before summer

- School’s out for secondary pupils except ....

Additional details from gvt source about Boris Johnson speech

- Year 10 and 12 pupils in secondary schools facing exams next year will get some contact time

- Quarantine is a few weeks away and will be 14 days

Additional details from gvt source about Boris Johnson speech

- The kinds of places that might open in phase 3 include places of worship and socially distanced cinemas

Additional details from gvt source about Johnson speech

- Previously in theory you could have gone for a jog and one other person from another household cd have jogged at 2m socially distanced

- From Wed in theory if u wanted to sit socially distanced on a bench outside u can

Lovemyphone · 10/05/2020 20:28

I thought it was very clear.

I'm not a Tory biter and I'm no huge Boris fan, but I understood it perfectly.

You might not like it or agree with it, but it was clear.

JinglingHellsBells · 10/05/2020 20:28

How on earth do you know that's what he meant? We can only go on what he actually said. Don't make things up to suit your own agenda.

LOL!

You are right. We can go by what he said. That means he spoke of what has changed and anything he didn't say stays the same.

So now going on hols and if you do you risk bigger fines (I read earlier this week it might be a £1K fine.)

tenterden · 10/05/2020 20:28

Thanks @Glower for the clarity from the government document. That was what I thought Smile

Racoonworld · 10/05/2020 20:28

It was very clear, he specifically said only your own household. I don’t know how that is confusing people! Did others watch a different briefing or something?

RichardMarxisinnocent · 10/05/2020 20:30

*The BBC website says
You can meet one person from outside your own household if you stay two metres apart
So, you can sit next to a single friend in the park, but you must socially distance *
Where did the BBC get that from? It definitely wasn't in Boris's broadcast, and I would have thought something allowing people to meet someone from outside their household is pretty significant and would have been mentioned.

tenterden · 10/05/2020 20:30

@JinglingHellsBells He actually said "you can drive to other destinations" The 50 page document apparently says you can drive anywhere in England.

Bagelsandbrie · 10/05/2020 20:30

I don’t understand why everyone is so confused. It was very clear to me. No mixing of households. Social distancing. More exercising. Go to work.

lyralalala · 10/05/2020 20:30

How on earth do you know that's what he meant? We can only go on what he actually said. Don't make things up to suit your own agenda.

The outline of it on the BBC says specifically that the Government have said people shouldn't be booking holidays at home or abroad so I reckon weekends will come under that

JinglingHellsBells · 10/05/2020 20:31

@RedToothBrush Not sure that Sam bloke has got it right.

I didn't hear anything about driving to beaches.
You can sunbathe and exercise outside more or have a picnic (in a park) but you can't drive 4 hours to the beach (as I'd need to) for a jolly jaunt. I think if you live by the sea you can sit on the beach but that's the only small change.

LillianGish · 10/05/2020 20:31

It wasn't clear because it's not clear - I think stay alert means continue to act as if you are infected and might infect (or be infected by) anyone you come into contact with. You can leave the house, but stay two metres away from anyone who isn't part of your household. Work from home if you can, if you can't work from home then go back to work if your work is open. Try to avoid public transport. The underlying message was we have no idea if this is going to work so we will be keeping an eye on what happens to the death rate before we decide what to do next.

JinglingHellsBells · 10/05/2020 20:33

@tenterden

I don't think 'drive to other destinations' means you can go on holiday. I listened to him and it was all about taking exercise- not going on holiday.

I cancelled a holiday due to start next weekend, on a UK beach and I doubt very much I'd be allowed to drive 6 hours to go and live in a cottage for 2 weeks.

Doryhunky · 10/05/2020 20:33

He has just announced what people were starting to do already ie relax at a safe distance in parks!

BessMarvin · 10/05/2020 20:34

Looks like Glower has posted where I got it from. www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/world-52601754 20.04 if not.

JinglingHellsBells · 10/05/2020 20:34

Please don't take the BBC website as gospel. Journalists aren't gods- they aren't always right- they make it up as they go along.

Crimples · 10/05/2020 20:34

@JinglingHellsBells I don’t know what motivates people to pick fault, presumably they will each have their own reasons 🤷‍♀️
This thread was merely to share my own opinion of what I thought was an ineffective broadcast at a time when millions of people are looking for a bit of clarity.
Some will agree, some will not. It’s called a discussion

LizzieSiddal · 10/05/2020 20:35

You might not like it or agree with it, but it was clear.

Go to work, but avoid public transport and what do you do with your children? And who knows who’s supposed to go back to work, it’s Sunday night and people have to have all those answers before tomorrow morning.
Also, you can go to the park and sit 2 meters from a stranger in a bench. But you aren’t supposed to meet a family member or friend and do the same thing?!

You may think it was clear but it threw up more questions than answers. Govt is supposed to provide clarity, not confusion.
