Not that it matters to me personally, being in Scotland but that was just the biggest load of waffley waffle.
Not even a mention of meeting other households.

I'm astonished that anybody found clarity in that.

I don't think it was clear. With the additional details that the media have been briefed with it DOES make a lot more sense.

The trouble is people aren't going to check that and I think people are eft scratching their heads, thinking this starts from right now (instead of weds) and has misinterpreted large parts according to what they want to here.

As I say, its in keeping with the Irish plan and we would expect that NI at least would be similar for practical reasons. For political reasons its likely England would say it was on the same timetable as NI. However I suspect the R values will be too high, and there may be slippage in at least some areas in England, to keep the DUP happy, whilst the English government maintain they are 'following the science'. I MAY be wrong on this, but it was always unlikely that the NI plan would be widely different from the Irish.

I think people need to take a big breathe and step back and go read a media review of what it means and what they've been briefed on in addition to the speech.

Gawdsake2020 · 10/05/2020 21:14

Basically you can do things. But you also can’t do things. 🤷🏻‍♀️
I think it’s time to admit we’ll probably be like this for the next 12-24 months.

Derbygerbil · 10/05/2020 21:16

*but it won’t be open to all employees simply because a business chooses not to operate.

GabsAlot · 10/05/2020 21:17

i wouldnt trust the media with my life tbh red i'll wait for an official document not something someone on twitter reckon they know

Greengrassgravy · 10/05/2020 21:18

I'm astonished that anybody found clarity in that. because he mostly focused on talking shite - it's what he does best - and his followers suck it up. Shock

MilkLady02 · 10/05/2020 21:20

”They will have had more info than a 15 min briefing on TV!”

”Really??“

Well the entire dental service is, we get several daily updates and all the latest info from NHS England about what we can and can’t do and how things are changing day to day, so our working day and environment is based on that.

sophiestew · 10/05/2020 21:21

I don’t understand, it’s not clear’ = ‘You aren’t saying what I want to hear’

Well yes. I live in Devon and from what he said, people from all over England are now free to come visit (so long as they don't use public transport) if they fancy a walk along the beach or a hike over the hills?

I know loads of people who will happily have their friends and family bring their caravans or tents to their land and stay. They will be social distancing or not, but it will bring a lot of pressure to our hospitals and shops. Sad

RedToothBrush · 10/05/2020 21:21

Fair enough.

I think you can get an idea by reading a few different media outlets, and double checking the government document (which might not be clear in its language either).

I am sceptical of the media but not to the point where I refuse to completely listen to it.

stuckindoors77 · 10/05/2020 21:23

He didn't mention socialising with wider family because we are nowhere near that point yet.

But surely seeing close family goes before going to the cinema and restaurants? But they got a mention!!

Be alert - Britain needs lerts!*

Bored of this already. How many more times do we have to see it. It's not even funny.*

Made me chuckle 🤷‍♂️ no need to be mean!

Piggywaspushed · 10/05/2020 21:23

Interestingmilk. Schools hear at the same time as everyone else...

SusieOwl4 · 10/05/2020 21:24

FGS there are about three threads about the same thing .

Rerun the broadcast if you don’t understand it .

It’s was quite clear . More details tomorrow !!!

NotAnotherUserNumber · 10/05/2020 21:25

@PeanutButterSarnie

I generally lean very far to the left and had a pretty low opinion of Boris before all this, but I thought it was perfectly clear and sensible.

Mullikins · 10/05/2020 21:26

I usually find Boris Johnson very waffly and his message foggy and unclear, but today I thought he was very clear in what he was saying and it's perfectly obvious to me what is and isn't allowed. I'm not sure what people are confused about.

SusieOwl4 · 10/05/2020 21:26

It is clear !

Social distancing has not changed

Hospitality only open in July if criteria met.

You can travel to exercise if necessary but don’t mis with other households

Criteria for changes clear

daisymay133 · 10/05/2020 21:29

It wasn’t clear if you work in particular industries

So if you can’t work from home you can go to work

Oh but not shops or salons or bars ? But who then? And wat are the workplace rules if people forced to go in tomoz morning when he hasn’t released them 🤷‍♀️

daisymay133 · 10/05/2020 21:30

Plus

Now this isn’t hard

So it’s ok to mix in work with hundreds of people - 2 m apart
But not ok to visit family 2m apart ?!

Yes that makes sense

pennylane83 · 10/05/2020 21:35

Where has the reopening of garden centres talk come from? Did Boris mention that?

The media getting ahead of themselves and stirring the pot - it was one of the first stages in some other countries lifting of the lockdown rules so assumed we'd follow suit.

tiredvommachine · 10/05/2020 21:35

@LilacTree1 really? Wow.

daisypond · 10/05/2020 21:39

Really unclear. He said go to work if you cannot work from home. So, all the thousands who work in theatres, cinemas, shops? Opticians? Dentists? Etc? I suspect he doesn’t mean that, but it’s not what he said.

Rosebel · 10/05/2020 21:41

I don't understand why people are so confused. It wasn't exactly difficult to follow and he repeated it at least twice. Just because it wasn't what you wanted to hear doesn't mean it wasn't clear.

PickUpAPickUpAPenguin · 10/05/2020 21:41

It was very unclear compared to his lockdown statement.

I'm going to need to listen to him in the commons tomorrow and read gov.uk to make sense of things

stuckindoors77 · 10/05/2020 21:42

So it’s ok to mix in work with hundreds of people - 2 m apart

As frustrating as it is, yes it does make sense. They're gradually lifting lockdown to save the economy so business has to take priority. They can't put people's right to see their mum ahead of restarting parts of the economy. When you take viral load into account. Sitting close to people in work is a risk but it needs to be taken but if you then see relatives as well, you double your risk.

But surely work should be organised so you're not mixing with "hundreds of people" every day.

Lumene · 10/05/2020 21:43

Lol at all those saying ‘it is clear’ When mumsnet and social media are riddled with posts by people who do not find it at all clear.

MaeveDidIt · 10/05/2020 21:44

It's not clear and it WILL cost lives.

Makes you wonder how many people will unwittingly bundle onto trains/tubes and buses etc because they have been instructed to go to work in their workplace tomorrow (if they can't work from home). So just pot luck if there aren't too many other people doing the same.

How many workplaces are going to be ready with less than 12 hours notice to have good safety measures in place?

What about PPE equipment for these workers? Oh what a shame there isn't any!!

In my view this is 4/6 week's premature and Scotland, Wales and NI have got much more of a reality grip on the situation.

I thought that Boris having had the illness would have had more sense.

He himself called it the 'invisible mugger' - yet he's saying be alert.
It's the wrong phrase and should have been you must keep your distance.

And wow people on incoming flights have to be isolated - why now why not 6 weeks ago!

All in all it's a complete shambles.

MilkLady02 · 10/05/2020 21:45

”And yes, of course people can email their workplace and ask - but will their employers even know?“

I would hope so if they’re running the place!! Employers have to ensure the heath and safety of their staff, fire exits, seating, electrical etc etc.... and infectious diseases are included in that. So if they have worked out all the H & S aspects and it’s safe for staff to return then they will let their staff know. That’s what my workplace are doing!
