So basically the government are removing themselves?

So Boris has just tweeted what I presume is going to be announced later. To me it is the government removing the responsibility from themselves so that they can blame to public when a second wave occurs. All very vague and unhelpful!

So basically the government are removing themselves?

Please stop calling him Boris. Whether you like him or loathe him, it’s demeaning.
Poor Boris!
I agree it makes me want to puke. A privileged, narcissistic old Etonian getting the sheep like public to use his stage name, while he enacts policy that screws over their children. (zero hour contracts, unaffordable housing, climate change, etc) safe in the bubble of privilege he has inhabited his entire life.

princesstwinkle · 10/05/2020 17:04

@Bathroom12345 personally. I could not sacrifice my elderly grandparents just so I can go out. It's not even a nice dignified death.

Cam 77
They are not responsible if people are unable to conduct themselves responsibly, avoid obvious risks, or interpret the words "stay alert". They are responsible for the judgements about re-opening society, returning to work, etc.

Snowjive2 · 10/05/2020 17:06

Wales, NI and Scotland have all rejected the Govt’s new slogan.

Cam77 · 10/05/2020 17:06

@MeganBacon
Well, technically, they are responsible.... They are responsible for deciding the law and then enforcing the law. Arguably their biggest responsibility.

PickUpAPickUpAPenguin · 10/05/2020 17:07

I think last Friday will lead to a second wave and if the next Bank Holiday is also sunny then that will prolong that wave.

I think that a lot of people are rightly miffed that the rules don't take individual circumstances into account. For example not all over 70s walk with a stick or frame. Given the responsibility to manage their own risk they might limit going out to see their friend across the road.

People are starting to flout the rules more and I think the police can't manage to enforce things any more. With the exception of a very small number of over zealous policing, I've not heard of much enforcement. The level of the fine is extremely low compared to other countries which contributes to the idea that it's not a big deal.

Snowjive2 · 10/05/2020 17:07

Cam77 I agree. It’s demeaning to the user, not to Doris. I mean, Johnson.

princesstwinkle · 10/05/2020 17:07

@Utterlydespairing so Scotland, Wales and NI are all wrong then?

Stay at home gets trickier as more go back to work and furlough ends.

Is that one furlough system for everyone? I assume so, will look.

GabsAlot · 10/05/2020 17:09

a bit like why did he keep mentioning monday in parliament @Allatsea34

GabsAlot · 10/05/2020 17:10

i dont agree @Utterlydespairing all three nations have not agreed with him so its not just sturgeon

stretchedmarks · 10/05/2020 17:10

I like this, tbh. What it does is puts power back into the hands of the individual, and out of the hands of the curtain twitchers.

I think a lot of people are simply upset because they won't be able to give off about their neighbours anymore. What a bloody relief.

saleorbouy · 10/05/2020 17:11

The next phases of tackling covid are about self constraint, self control, and general awareness of reducing opportunities to spread. Do you really need the government to hold your hand each step of the way, they can't control you only advise and hope the population have the sense to adhere to guidelines.

I'm very interested to know, from one of the posters who think that a) it's perfectly obvious what the new slogan means and b) that it's important to have the new slogan because this will fix the economy... what exactly do you think that people will be 'allowed' to do now, that they weren't 'allowed' to do before?

Utterlydespairing · 10/05/2020 17:12

How can the slogan be stay at home when we are about to ease lockdown. It doesn’t make sense. Sturgeon can do what she wants. Always will. Their death rate is atrocious for a small spaced out country but no one seems to mention that

FliesandPies · 10/05/2020 17:13

I am patient and can wait until 7pm, I don’t read all the trash newspaper headlines and I don’t panic unnecessarily

Oops, egg on face!

Bathroom12345 · 10/05/2020 17:13

Princess. I certainly didn’t say anything like that. We 100% need to look at care homes differently. The solution won’t be the same as say getting the children back to school. This is their future we are talking about.

Surely as this disease hits the over 65’s primarily we need to look at them separately. My DM (also nearly 90)wants to take a risk assessment of her chances. She doesn’t want to be locked away in her little flat for months on end.

multivac · 10/05/2020 17:14

(And also, why on earth do you think that cheering for the government's new, very carefully thought out strategy for perception control, somehow makes you more autonomous and responsible than those who are looking at it critically?)

saleorbouy · 10/05/2020 17:15

@omgness Oh thanks, I would but I'm stuck in lock down, nowhere to go sorry!

TheVanguardSix · 10/05/2020 17:15

Please stop calling him Boris.

Pardon me. I meant Doris.

Snowjive2 · 10/05/2020 17:18

TheVanguardSix that’s more like it

Etinox · 10/05/2020 17:20

Shockingly disorganised and muddy.

So basically the government are removing themselves?
CrowCat · 10/05/2020 17:20

@stretchedmarks brilliant comment, sick and tired of neighbours thinking they can police everyone else like a 'one size fits all' lockdown was even possible.

princesstwinkle · 10/05/2020 17:21

It's alright everyone they've just released a lovely little video....

That is a slideshow of the poster with no additional information.

I feel that I have a much better understanding now!
