So Boris has just tweeted what I presume is going to be announced later. To me it is the government removing the responsibility from themselves so that they can blame to public when a second wave occurs. All very vague and unhelpful!

So basically the government are removing themselves?

Please stop calling him Boris. Whether you like him or loathe him, it’s demeaning.

GabsAlot · 10/05/2020 16:48

so if boris says later schools aer going back in 3 weks everyone happy with that

stoland clearly are going down a different route sturgeon has said several times this is about saving lives nothing else-i dont think johnson coujld give a toss anymore

and yes what happend to passing the five tests that theyve been bleating on about every briefing-has that been thrown out because the rates of infection arent going down

mrpumblechook · 10/05/2020 16:49

Imagine a world where adults took responsibility for their actions and consequences.

How are you planning to take responsibility for an action that leads to you getting infected and consequently infecting other people?

TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair · 10/05/2020 16:49

Boris the granny killer

Grin

I love it. Much better than 'Ivan the Terrible'

princesstwinkle · 10/05/2020 16:49

@GabsAlot as far as he's concerned he's now immune so he has absolutely nothing to loose

@Dodgytrousers I made a similar comment on another covid thread recently- it's so bloody transparent!

The only other obvious measure would be for Boris now to encourage people to wear masks at least in shops or on public transport.

MarshaBradyo · 10/05/2020 16:51

Looks fine to me. What you prefer it to say or them do op?

MarshaBradyo · 10/05/2020 16:51

Would you..

Bathroom12345 · 10/05/2020 16:51

Yes I do, my DH nearly 90. Care homes need to be looked at differently.

justanotherneighinparadise · 10/05/2020 16:52

I just can’t see what the alternative is really. They’ve come what they set out to do. Ride the peak without bringing down the NHS. The next phase has to include the economy and getting people back to work and spending. Otherwise we end up with people dying of starvation eventually when there is no economy left.

Personally I would rather take a risk with the virus than life as we know it end.

Cam77 · 10/05/2020 16:53

The British government set the tone of recklessness and half arsed measures, laying out its "hope for the best" strategy at the end of Feb/beginning of March. Everything thats followed has basically been a riff on that. The British government has never been serious about mid-long term suppression of the virus - far too much thinking and planning required. Also with the Brexit economic cliff edge looming up into view at 100mph, we might need to take few thousand extra deaths here and there "on the chin". The Boris/Farage legacy.

Bathroom12345 · 10/05/2020 16:54

I haven’t seen him since the lockdown but we really cannot take the very young and the very old and try and come up with the same answer.

MeganBacon · 10/05/2020 16:54

To me, stay alert means don't be complacent. It's punchier. They have reason to believe that you need a short punchy catchphrase to reach the maximum number of people for the longest time, which is why they always have one. Some people will ignore it anyway. Others are risk averse and will do their best to comply.

Of course they are not removing themselves. Everyone is responsible for their own life. Perhaps you are one of those people who prefer to "remove yourself" from that responsibility by making out that government is responsible for yours?

GabsAlot · 10/05/2020 16:55

good point op-not that theres any proof he cant get it again but i guess at the moment its irrelvant

hes going to have a pre recorded address at 7 for ten minutes-i dont think it will be that clear

Allatsea34 · 10/05/2020 16:55

I like it!

But then I am patient and can wait until 7pm, I don’t read all the trash newspaper headlines and I don’t panic unnecessarily.

It’s strange how some people love to wallow and panic about it all Confused It sounds very tiresome!

Bathroom12345 · 10/05/2020 16:55

DF (not DH!!!). Sorry!

GabsAlot · 10/05/2020 16:57

so the second part control the virus how do i do that exactly

doubleshotespresso · 10/05/2020 16:58

This is utterly irresponsible, I'm with you OP.
Not only did the lack of clarity prior to this weekend lead to ridiculous street parties and police unable to manage those in breach, now this complete twattery....
Once again absolving themselves of any need for morality or responsibility it's just sickening to watch.
And baffling to see folks actually embracing this. Thousands more will die and as far as I'm concerned Boris and his grubby chums all have blood on their hands

GabsAlot · 10/05/2020 16:58

its not the papers thats straight from boris twitter

Cam77 · 10/05/2020 16:59

@MeganBacon
Every time anyone criticises the government or more specifically, a failing of government policy, you always get someone along saying that the government isn't responsible for it. NHS? thats not the government its the manager/doctors/nurses etc. The police? local failings. Education? local failings/bad teachers. Terrorism? the Met. Poor public transport? Thats the private companies and the unions.
The government is responsible for nothing. They do nothing. Shall we just get rid of it then?

Bathroom12345 · 10/05/2020 17:01

They couldn’t keep the old slogan. Unlike Nicola who loves the overall power, control and telling people what to do.

Why don’t they all get together and give one message.

princesstwinkle · 10/05/2020 17:03

@Allatsea34 this cake straight from Boris' twitter.

I don't understand why he would publish it before his official announcement.

OP posts:
Mynydd · 10/05/2020 17:03

Well here in Wales we had a very clear message released the other night: we can go out twice a day for exercise and garden centres can open. Aside from that nothing has changed. I doubt it will be that much different for you in England to be honest.

Utterlydespairing · 10/05/2020 17:03

They had to change it. Sturgeon won’t because well, she won’t do anything the goverment does because she’s a petulant fucking child.
