I'm sick of lockdown now. My sons exams have been cancelled. The economy is going to shit. Some people I know are unable to get government help and are really struggling. And yet the nightingale hospitals are empty and my uncle who is a consultant in a&e has never been so bored at work....time to get in with life? We can't realistically all wait for a vaccine, can we?

Kcnana · 09/05/2020 14:33

I hear you! I'm totally fed up, my mental health is on its knees. It feels like we've sacrificed so much unjustifiably as the consequence of these restrictions will cut deeper than the virus itself. We can't wait for a vaccine that might never bleedin' come.

koffeetoast · 09/05/2020 14:35

I'm sick of it too, but i don't think this lax lockdown has achieved anything. It's either we go full blow lockdown as other countries have done, or just let everyone out. I notice in many other countries they are working to actually eliminate the virus, but here (UK) the government seem to be taking the approach of just managing the number of people who get it - herd immunity still in action I believe.

oxydrive73 · 09/05/2020 14:38

I think more and more people are feeling like this now.

bellinisurge · 09/05/2020 14:43

"It's sooooo boooorrrriiiinnnnggg."

Can't any of you consider the possibility that it's not over?

Whatsuppp · 09/05/2020 14:44

Completely agree but if I say this to anyone in real life, or even on here, I get shouted at.

Derbygerbil · 09/05/2020 14:45

It’s not all or nothing though... If we simply went to normal straight away the past 7 weeks or so will
have been completely and utterly futile, and we’d be back to square one in a fortnight. We need to start opening up carefully.

LaurieFairyCake · 09/05/2020 14:46

Highest death toll in Europe and many covid wards are almost full with people dying

The problem is that we're not seeing that - the BBC need to visit a ward on the 6pm news and interview the somber doctors who will tell the people to stay home

Instead of showing heartwarming stories

We need to see the TRUTH about the deaths

Derbygerbil · 09/05/2020 14:48

I notice in many other countries they are working to actually eliminate the virus

If we’d locked down at the same point at NZ (I mean their case numbers not date), hadn’t allowed mass events to go ahead when it was clearly spreading, were as geographically isolated, and gone for a full-on lock down... we may have managed it. We acted too late for that.

Flumo · 09/05/2020 14:55

Surely lifes are more important??

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 09/05/2020 14:55

I agree but can't say it in real life as you get cars him mouth and 'how dare you not care' attitude.

See we might not have highest death toll in Europe. We are now reporting all corona deaths incl care homes. Spain doesn't, nor does Italy. France is sporadic.

Friend on mine her dad ended up in hospital with suspected mild stroke. Routinely tested for covid and was +ve. No symptoms at all. Not even a mild temp. Sadly he had a brain bleed and died. Cause of death? Covid 19. There is no way the virus caused his death but they avoided an autopsy by putting it in the certificate.

How many more like this?

Kcnana · 09/05/2020 14:57

@Flumo of course lives are important. How many are being lost as a result of the country grinding to a halt? Nobody ever wants to talk about those lives lost.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 09/05/2020 14:59

I hear you OP.

imsooverthisdrama · 09/05/2020 15:03

Today I'm feeling so done with this lockdown, I've tried to hard to follow the rules but when you hear others have mixed household some for good reasons others not so .
I've just heard that now they are saying that will bring in 14 day isolation for anyone flying in . This should of been done even before lockdown.
The amount of cases and deaths still high even after almost 7 weeks although dropping .
I've just took my dc Sen who insists on doing the same walk as he's autistic, there was 3 times the amount of people about than normal and it was a nightmare.
If Boris doesn't give a clear exit plan tomorrow then he can fuck off then , I'm driving dc to the park etc . I know this is allowed but I've tried to drive only when essential but now I'm going to do non essential journeys . I need to stop myself and my dc from going mad . It's not right to stay home for 2 + months and not see family .
What makes people think another 3 weeks of lockdown is going to make any difference? Are we going to do another 3 weeks after that and so on.

TabbyMumz · 09/05/2020 15:10

"Are we going to do another 3 weeks after that and so on."
I'd love it if we did. Would get the numbers down even further and not cause a second hit. I'm fine with lockdown. I've been working from home, going for walks, been out today and had a wonder round a few hardware shops etc, done some painting.

Rafflesway · 09/05/2020 15:26

MrsArch you are spot on!

I also know of a friend’s relative who was in a care home due to advanced stages of dementia with only a few weeks left to live. Poor guy also tested positive for Covid - no obvious symptoms - and this is listed as cause of death on his death certificate.

I suspect there are 1000’s similar! 🤔

janeyloves · 09/05/2020 15:30

Of course lives are important but it's not just COVID that kills. So does depression and poverty and recessions...albeit indirectly.
This virus isn't going anywhere and we have to start to live with that fact in a more normal way. I'm lucky. Our salaries haven't changed but many people are struggling financially and/or mentally.

OP posts:
DamnYankee · 09/05/2020 15:31

We need to start opening up carefully.

^This.
It's the only sustainable solution.
If you don't want to come out of lockdown and have that choice. Don't.

I'm watching other states, who reopened before we did with interest, particularly a big city in Texas, because their population is denser, their mayor is moving a bit slower than the governor, (and my whole family lives there). They are already rolling out options for reopening public schools in the fall. It's really looking interesting...

PestymcPestFace · 09/05/2020 15:35

Has anyone bothered reading up on corona virus and blood clots?
This thing is new and we are still learning

whatswithtodaytoday · 09/05/2020 15:41

But if we come out of lockdown and go back to normal, the virus will spread as it was before and thousands more will die. Of course it's boring, of course people are frustrated, but that won't make it go away. This is real life, it's not a film where the narrative moves on when you get bored.

Our infection rates are still way, way higher than other countries who are lifting restrictions.

clumsyduck · 09/05/2020 15:41

Believe me I wish this was over as much as anyone , high chance I will lose my job within a few months , was in the beginnings of a great new relationship - he’s now stuck in another country for god knows how long and I haven’t seen him since this started obviously and no idea when . I am thoroughly miserable a lot of the time !!

However we can’t just stop lockdown just like that . Needs to be gradual To stop a massive spike

I do worry about non covid deaths though as a result of lockdown through lack of access to treatment , poverty, abuse , mental health etc , how do we balance them ?
It’s all just a mess really Sad

Drivingdownthe101 · 09/05/2020 15:43

I'm fine with lockdown. I've been working from home, going for walks, been out today and had a wonder round a few hardware shops etc, done some painting

You’re alright, Jack.

Catsmother1 · 09/05/2020 15:44

I feel like there’s not much point with this any more. I feel like I’m the only one distancing when I’m out. My family have stayed in for 7 weeks. I’ve only been out a couple of times to Sainsbury’s. Today’s trip was a nightmare - even the staff were next to each other putting stock out.
My neighbours have had family around. Street parties (street next to ours) going on until 2am.
I don’t think we should be opening theatres and cinemas yet, or going to festivals. But please could we just meet up with one or two people from outside our household? That’s all I want. Opening libraries and garden centres is not going to make up for being apart from family a pond friends. And I love gardening - but I’m not planning on going shopping more than necessary.

Polkadotties · 09/05/2020 15:45

raffles saw a death cert at work the other day for someone in their 90s.Cause one was covid 19. Cause two were t2 diabetes, obesity, hypertension, breast cancer and a couple of other things that I can’t remember.

clumsyduck · 09/05/2020 15:46

You’re alright, Jack.

This . No offense to the other poster but so many people are struggling it’s really not a case of people sulking because they can’t go to the pub or something . Being stuck at home is one thing being stuck at home wondering if you will even have one in a few months if you are made redundant is a whole different ball game !

TheCountessatHotelCortez · 09/05/2020 15:47

At least you’re not in Scotland (at least I don’t think you are) NS would probably keep us in lockdown till next year if she could 😒
