I'm sick of lockdown now. My sons exams have been cancelled. The economy is going to shit. Some people I know are unable to get government help and are really struggling. And yet the nightingale hospitals are empty and my uncle who is a consultant in a&e has never been so bored at work....time to get in with life? We can't realistically all wait for a vaccine, can we?

@trappedsince
I'm so sorry for your loss. I think In your situation I would just go to see my Dad if I possibly could and sod the rules.

Trapped - so would you prefer lockdown was relaxed or ended now? Just out of interest?

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 09/05/2020 17:28

@imsooverthisdrama

"I've just heard that now they are saying that will bring in 14 day isolation for anyone flying in . This should of been done even before lockdown."
You do realise it will also apply to Brits returning to the UK from holidaying abroad? The newspapers are reporting that Brits will need to book off 4 weeks holiday (in order to holiday for 2 weeks and then self-isolate for 2 weeks before returning to work).

I don't understand why, if this is accurately reported, they are leaving introducing this until the end of May. Why let people continue to come to the UK or re-enter the UK and possibly transmit the virus until the end of May? Are all countries going to check passengers' temperatures to ensure they don't have a fever before allowing them to fly?

Drivingdownthe101 · 09/05/2020 17:29

Well done NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite, really compassionate response to someone who has just said their mental health is on its knees.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 09/05/2020 17:33

I would prefer lock down to be relaxed, not ended completely for a little while yet. Nowhere have I said it should end now.

TheCanterburyWhales · 09/05/2020 17:37

Realistically, countries are also going to insist quarantine for people coming in, so I doubt many Brits are going to be flying anywhere.
Italy now is permitting travel from region to region but if you enter another region you have to quarantine for 14 days.
Hope Ryanair is going to explain this to people suddenly gobbling up those £9 flights!

Cherryblossomsnow · 09/05/2020 17:38

I feel the media play a big role in how this pans out. Notice there has been no coverage of mass graves - where is everyone being buried? The media are pushing the come out of lockdown button for the economies sake (for their own survival - in other countries media outlets have collapsed). You are being fooled by this. The reality is that it is not safe yet.

ShutUpaYourFace · 09/05/2020 17:51

Trapped - no you didn't, I didn't say you did but you specifically picked up on my comment about thinking about the grieving.
You said think about those grieving that can't be together. Sorry I don't make the rules and it must be horrible for your family.
If lockdown is eased to soon unfortunately there will be more and more family's in your position.

TabbyMumz · 09/05/2020 17:52

"where is everyone being buried?"
You do know there is another option,? Ie cremation. Plus it's over 30,000 deaths, but there that's a small percentage of population.

Thisismytimetoshine · 09/05/2020 17:56

Can't any of you consider the possibility that it's not over?
Indeed Confused. Where is this notion that "we've vanquished it, let's get back to normal" coming from?

bellinisurge · 09/05/2020 17:59

Compared to what they've had in other countries, you know, the ones doing better than us, this has been a relatively mild version of lockdown.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 09/05/2020 18:05

We cannot stay lock down indefinitely it has to be eased at some point soon. No matter when it's eased ( this month or next), there will be families going through what we are sadly, but they will be fewer than now and there are many that will die alone from non-covid related deaths, should their relatives also be denied the chance to come together in grief based on "if, whats and maybes"?

RainMustFall · 09/05/2020 18:06

LaurieFairyCake
Highest death toll in Europe

Nope. Deaths per million of population the UK is fourth.

Wehttam · 09/05/2020 18:12

I wonder how those sat in ICU on a ventilator would feel about your MH being tested to the point that you would rather they lift lockdown so you can go about your business as if there isn’t a deadly pandemic happening in the World?

Remembering the VE Day celebrations yesterday, what would happen if those during a black out decided they couldn’t handle being in the war anymore, their MH was at breaking point, it’s ok those bombs will never get us, Ive had enough open the curtains!

I suspect if this was the case back then we may not be sat here having this conversation on MN. It’s for the greater good so we get on with it, the alternative is far worse.

Cherryblossomsnow · 09/05/2020 18:15

By buried I was meaning all options - sorry I wasn't cutting out any options and my own family have had both burials and cremations.

Greenlorry · 09/05/2020 18:17

I don’t think people literally meant lift lock down and let’s resume as normal.
It is hard work staying at home with kids and trying to keep them busy of course it’s all for a good reason we are not saying other wise.

It’s totally normal to get fed up. I feel for those who are WFM and looking after their kids plus school work on top. Can you blame us??

ErrolTheDragon · 09/05/2020 18:21

Deaths per million of population the UK is fourth.

So far, but the U.K. curves are lagging behind the others.

tisonlymeagain · 09/05/2020 18:23

The stats speak for themselves. The elderly and vulnerable should remain shielded and in lockdown, everyone else needs to start the slow process of getting back to some sort of normality - albeit a new one.

Out of 27,000 deaths 24,000 were over 65s. 45 percent were over 80 i think. Only 355 were in the 15-45 age group.

It seems crazy to keep everyone locked up for the foreseeable when we are risking a lot more as well. I feel we are heading for a mental health crisis in this country.

bellinisurge · 09/05/2020 18:25

"I don’t think people literally meant lift lock down and let’s resume as normal. "

I think, in fact, they did. And do.

mondaynoon · 09/05/2020 18:30

There is still a lot of virus out there - lifting lockdown now would mean there could be another peak. The economy will be in a much worse state if we have a second peak and have to lockdown again. Lots more children will have their exams cancelled, people will struggle even more financially and your doctor uncle might be drafted in to treat covid patients (maybe he could do that - many doctors were asked to volunteer and it would stop him being bored).

Greenlorry · 09/05/2020 18:33

@bellinisurge is that the part you chose to cherry pick Hmm

TheCanterburyWhales · 09/05/2020 18:42

Wondered how long it would be before the foot stamping "because it's only the elderly and vulnerable who should be in lockdown" selfish snowflaking would start.

TimeWastingButFun · 09/05/2020 18:46

The virus hasn't gone away. It's still there, and we need to relax the rules very carefully and in rotation so that our health service is not overwhelmed. There will be so many more deaths if it is not done properly and carefully.

MereDintofPandiculation · 09/05/2020 18:47

The elderly and vulnerable should remain shielded and in lockdown, everyone else needs to start the slow process of getting back to some sort of normality But that's easier said than down. Look at the many people who can afford to go out to work only if their elderly grandparents provide childcare. The vulnerable who are economically active, who are healthcare workers, food workers, delivery drivers etc. The mixed households, where one member is vulnerable or extremely vulnerable.

janeyloves · 09/05/2020 18:51

No one thinks lockdown should be lifted in its entirety....I think, tho that some restrictions need to be lifted esp. where it's not possible to work from home and livelihoods are at stake.
I'm no selfish snowflake. I have two close family members - mother and brother - who need to be shielded and 3 close family members who work front line NHS. Unfortunately everything we do has an element of risk involved. Some of you are hysterical.
