Anybody else's street look like a party?

HT96 · 08/05/2020 12:48

All the neighbours standing round sitting out in the front chatting and someone is even giving away free beer tonight 💃🏻

Party time! When did Boris lift the lockdown? I must have missed it 😁

Bunting and people in gardens to start off with here. As the booze started flowing so did the people out and about

Lots of outside visitors on the street and in the gardens.

Next door has 4 generations from at least 4 households squashed together in the front garden and are still going strong

I obviously missed Bojo's message saying Coronavirus doesn’t work on Bank Holidays

covetingthepreciousthings · 08/05/2020 22:31

I can't help but feel that if VE Day had fallen in weeks 1-3 of lockdown we wouldn't have seen all of these 'socially distanced' parties, as people would have been more anxious about it. However now, people are just reaching the end of their tolerance with it all and this has given them the excuse to ignore that we are still in lockdown.

Our streets party is still in full swing, and doesn't look to be much distancing going on..

Inkpaperstars · 08/05/2020 22:32

Nothing round here. I wouldn't have a problem with socially distanced things but if I lived somewhere where people were just throwing caution to the wind, I'd be desperately plotting to move asap. Wouldn't want to be surrounded by that level of stupidity, and unless they really love lockdown and couldn't care about those who don't, it is stupid.

asteri76 · 08/05/2020 22:32

Street party on our road all day and is still going on now 🙄🙄 No social distancing at all...... Think I must have missed Boris's speech on lifting the lockdown too!!

Bertie30 · 08/05/2020 22:33

Fireworks been going off round here! Full on party day!

Timetospare · 08/05/2020 22:36

Feeling seriously vexed, street we back onto has about 20 people, obviously pissed and the noise is doing my head in. I politely asked them to be a bit quieter about 10 pm as exhausted from a working 10 hour days ( key worker) and they just had a go at me, saying it wasn’t that late, which I suppose it isn’t.
But, it’s been going on since 2pm.
No distancing either, selfish sods.

Inkpaperstars · 08/05/2020 22:36

People losing their tolerance for a few weeks of social distancing are celebrating the endurance of those who pulled through years of war. The irony is waist deep here.

Madhairday · 08/05/2020 22:46

Ours was ok earlier, lovely with afternoon tea in front gardens, some out on the pavement but we'll distanced but as the day went on the music came out and less and less social distancing, I wasn't out apart from my own garden as shielding but neighbour says loads were out just ignoring any distancing and drinking etc. I get everyone just wants to have fun but we're still supposed to be in lockdown and I am really worried about a second spike :(

Flaxmeadow · 08/05/2020 22:50

Thank goodness none of this nationalistic shite here.

Nationalistic? No that was the other side, Nazi Germany.

...and study history my darling. If it wasn't for the Soviet Union and the USA poor imperialist decaying GB would have been washing the pots of the nazi forever after.

Poor old GB didn't do so bad though when it, and Greece, bought time by being the only ones at total war with the Fascists. When the USA wasn't involved and the Soviets couldn't decide which side to back

Books are your friends, hun.

Certainly are, darling

CoronaIsComing · 08/05/2020 23:16

Our street hasn’t had any parties. We had afternoon tea in the garden with our family over Zoom.

HT96 · 09/05/2020 10:23

@Madhairday honestly it is disgusting ! All the celebs on insta sharing their street party's! Saying they where all social distancing when they clearly was not!!

Besides the point anyway, the rules are not to socialise with anyone outside of your family home! So 2 metres apart or not you should not be having street party's!!

If that was allowed we would all be able to see our family as long as we stayed 2M apart 🤦🏻‍♀️

They are not the rules. The rules are not to make unnecessary journeys. (Food, medical, once a day exercise) & to keep two metres apart.

No one in our street made any non essential journey as no one left the boundary of their home and we were all about 4/5 metres apart, never mind two. We basically had tea & cakes and listened to music sitting in our front gardens.

Connie222 · 09/05/2020 10:35

Have any of you seen he videos Italian mayors going batshit on YouTube when they first kicked down over there? Basically shouting at people in public addresses, calling them idiots (and worse) for not taking things seriously.

I wish we had a government who did that. Not just wishy washy advice that people seem to ignore.

Madhairday · 09/05/2020 10:48

Did anyone see this? A 'socially distanced' conga - with everyone running straight into everyone else's exhalations (stronger as well due to cardio activity)... I just despair!

Smellbellina · 09/05/2020 10:58

Try not to be too disgusted, abject misery is not part of ‘the rules’.

I regularly see my parents when I drop food to them and then stand at the bottom of their drive and chat.

We regularly socialise with our neighbours too, we sit in our front garden and they sit in theirs and we chat over the fence most days (we even do it in the evenings and a have drink sometimes Shock )

Smellbellina · 09/05/2020 11:03

Blush posted that on the wrong thread

Connie222 · 09/05/2020 11:11

@Madhairday Jesus wept 🤦🏽‍♀️

Honestly the level of stupidity had stunned me throughout the past few months.

ScreamedAtTheMichelangelo · 09/05/2020 11:22

Family a few doors down is going around the houses with their 11 year old, knocking on doors and offering his services as a gardener.

Hmm
AlphaJura · 09/05/2020 11:50

There was a couple of houses with bunting. Don't know if anyone sat out the front, didn't see anyone. Or hear anything later. But we live on a main road, just heard from a friend who lives on an estate round the corner, there seemed to be a bit more going on. She said, not on her street thankfully!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 09/05/2020 16:00

@Comefromaway I thought the rules were not to leave your home for anything but those 4 reasons: medical care, food, work, exercise . So if you didn't leave your driveway you were ok and I don't think anyone would say you did anything wrong. If you took your chairs to next door's driveway, or the street, then you were not social distancing.

Judging from Facebook today a lot of people bent the rules and inferred that as long as they were approx 2 m apart then they were effectively socially distancing but if that was the case we'd have all been seeing our families in our driveways for the last 7 weeks, and we haven't. Have other people? We certainly haven't.

Comefromaway · 09/05/2020 17:26

No one left their driveways.

To socialise with my family on our driveways would entail a 10 minute drive for me. That’s an uneccesary journey.

To socialise with our neighbours involves a 30 second opening of the door to stand/sit on our driveway. That’s not a journey.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 09/05/2020 17:39

@Comefromaway I think if no one left their driveways then that's not what people are complaining about.,
On my street people were literally carrying wine and chairs up the road to sit on peoples drives with them; my next door neighbour was showing people inside his house to see his extension.

Comefromaway · 09/05/2020 17:59

The most I did was put a multi pack of wrapped swizzle sweets and a pack of disinfectant wipes on the street for each family to help themselves to one by one.
