Anybody else's street look like a party?

All the neighbours standing round sitting out in the front chatting and someone is even giving away free beer tonight 💃🏻

Party time! When did Boris lift the lockdown? I must have missed it 😁

I live in a block of 4 streets and there are people out all down the street with wine/beer/BBQs. We sat in our front garden for half an hour with a cup of tea and a scone. We're the end house so weren't in closer proximity than shouting distance with anyone. We went for a quick walk down the middle of the road and there were large groups of people sitting together all down the street. Nothing like social distancing and the more they were drinking, the closer they were getting to each other.

HeyBlaby · 08/05/2020 18:00

They're all sat out in the cul-de-sac with no social distancing, wearing plastic England hats. Police have attended to which they started shouting 'spoil sports' and laughing hysterically.

This is a fairly middle class estate, they live in 'nice' houses, money does not buy sense. Selfish people.

FourTeaFallOut · 08/05/2020 18:00

Yes, all my neighbours are our partying and all the kids are playing together. Hmm It's like they have fucking shares in the r0.

DustyMaiden · 08/05/2020 18:02

People are on their drives, drinking their own drink, staying well apart. So ok
They think it ends Monday anyway so why not. Thanks to The Bigots Bugle.

NewName2020 · 08/05/2020 18:06

Yep, one house has all the neighbours round for a party.

poppy1973 · 08/05/2020 18:06

No, not a lot going on in my area. We put bunting up this morning and talk a walk around the block expecting to see other houses having bunting, but none.

After Churchills speech, we sat out in the back garden and had a small afternoon tea and played some WW2 music. I think we were the only ones in the area to do anything. I'll put my head out the door later and see if I can hear anything else going on.

redcarbluecar · 08/05/2020 18:06

Nothing in my area thankfully. I last attended a street party in 1977 and am happy for that to be a once in a lifetime experience. My neighbours are playing music though, which is a nice accompaniment to my garden beer.

notangelinajolie · 08/05/2020 18:07

It's a full on party in my street. Social distancing has gone out the window literally.
The cheerleader in chief was out at 8am draping bunting between every bush and lampost. Not a single family (and there are many of them) is actually outside their own property.

I'm feel quite sick to the pit of my stomach watching it all.

Disgusting, selfish twats the lot of them.

EricaNernie · 08/05/2020 18:10

the bbc news is celebrating the nationwide socially distancing street parties!

Sleepyblueocean · 08/05/2020 18:16

Loads of bunting, music and people sitting in the front gardens or at chairs and tables on the pavement outside their house but everyone seems to be social distancing. The whole thing though feels a bit surreal.

@MrsFogi

What the hell is the point of sitting 2m apart but still letting your kids play together?

Why do you think it's the "new normal" before there have been any announcements of the sort?

TheUnquestionedAnswer · 08/05/2020 18:26

Bunting and union flags in my street but no sign of any parties. I went to the chemist earlier and walked back through the park, hardly anyone there, but I could hear what sounded like rave music in the distance, no voices though so could have just been someone having their music on loud.

Port1aCastis · 08/05/2020 18:27

Yep we're having a driveway party and also we are marking VE day for my Gran who recently passed away aged 98, she was an WAAF plotter and was given an OBE by the Queen in later years for her efforts and courage.
We've been to the war memorial and her grave this morning to remember a formidable lady who I miss greatly so yes I will celebrate today and celebrate what she and others did for the Country I'm, getting married as soon as possible after lockdown (our wedding was cancelled because of the virus) and as I inherited Gran's WAAF cap with badge I'm going to try and incorporate the badge into my outfit and will be proud to wear it.

RowenaRavenclawTheSecond · 08/05/2020 18:33

We have gardens separated by hedges and walls, so it's easy to stay apart here. Someone has some music on but not too loud. It's been really nice, not a party or anything, just a few chats over the walls and a little afternoon tea!

Lindy2 · 08/05/2020 18:35

There are about 30 neighbours out dancing in my road. They've been much too close since 3pm and the more they drink the closer they get.

I was outside for a little while but felt very uncomfortable. I also hated the fact someone I don't even know came up to my 9 year old and gave her a cake. Yes, normally that would be kind. Right now it is not what I want at all.

We went back into our back garden and had a nice, safe afternoon tea by ourselves.

I am probably going to be regarded as the street bore which is a shame, but right now I can't do it.

My DH is a key worker and has to take more risks than I would ever wish. I don't want to increase our risk any more.

megletthesecond · 08/05/2020 18:40

Not in our estate because it's a shithole and lots of neighbours are twats.
But we've just had a walk and there's a few nearby streets with people in their front gardens. It was nice to say hi as we passed. Everyone was keeping well over 2m away.

ScrapThatThen · 08/05/2020 18:44

I have had a fab day with my household, made bunting, ate cake, drank Pimm's, went for a walk and enjoyed seeing a few people sitting out in front of their houses, or on the pavement, some with neighbours. All staying at home, or exercising, but also enjoying something a bit different for a bank holiday VE day.

Laslow · 08/05/2020 18:52

Yep, further up there's a street party, all sat together and kids playing, no social distancing...

yellowbrickwhorl · 08/05/2020 19:03

Our street had a street party. For 5 hours. All neatly socially distanced, thank you very much. And every household joined in too. Food, drink, bunting, music, dancing, flag-waving, singing. Some people even dressed up in 40's costume.

We had FUN. It was great, and no doubt will be talked about for years to come.

No mingling, nobody being a yob or a lout, it was all very civilised.

HavenDilemma · 08/05/2020 19:06

@DJMumzy I'm well aware of all of that! I teach History to the RAF! But that absolutely does NOT diminish the efforts and the sacrifices of our men who fought & died for this country as well.

Sounds like it's you who needs to educate yourself

Bertie30 · 08/05/2020 19:08

Full on party season round here! Cars parked everywhere so lots of visitors. Defo lockdown over fir today at least.

Makeuptherules · 08/05/2020 19:11

What a bore

AllianceOfCorcles · 08/05/2020 19:13

So annoying round here everyone set up on drives but then standing next to other people and kids all playing together. Music on full blast. Had to keep my kids in garden all day as couldn’t go through street to get out for a walk 😢 selfish indeed. This will be going on all night. After lockdown I’m looking to move.

BabyItsAWildWorld · 08/05/2020 19:14

Yes and it's so lovely.
Sunshine, neighbourlyness, bunting, happy kids.
Everyone keeping a distance but chatting.

It's felt like a lovely VE day.
