Anybody else's street look like a party?

All the neighbours standing round sitting out in the front chatting and someone is even giving away free beer tonight 💃🏻

Party time! When did Boris lift the lockdown? I must have missed it 😁

Lockdown is over in my parents street apparently. People walking over to other peoples gardens, dancing in the street and children playing together.

I’m sure we will all pay for this sort of behaviour in a few weeks with increased cases.

We’ve chosen to stay at home, baked a VE Day cake, had a bbq and stayed safe!!

AllianceOfCorcles · 08/05/2020 19:15

Oh yes lots and lots of visitors too not a fucking care in the world. Same bunch out clapping every week too 🤔

HavenDilemma · 08/05/2020 19:17

@DJMumzy Oh and it was just the Soviet Union & the (very late) USA, the Canadians, the French, the New Zealanders & the Australians played a huge part too.

Happy reading!!

HavenDilemma · 08/05/2020 19:17

*wasn't

CeeJay81 · 08/05/2020 19:18

At the other end of our street they are having a street party. I walked past on way home from work and they asked me if I wantes to bring a chair!. My nextdoor neighbours have someone round inside the house too. Seems like lockdown has ended.

NotAnotherUserNumber · 08/05/2020 19:18

When I read things like this I feel like I live in a parallel universe to everyone else - one where everyone stays insides their flats and most are working full time.

IWillNotNameTheTree · 08/05/2020 19:22

All started off well here, everyone in their own gardens keeping their distance.

The whole street is now congregated on one garden and sitting no more than a foot away from each other. Approximately 15 adults and 5 or 6 children.

Taswama · 08/05/2020 20:10

Just a bit Of bunting here.

WinterIsGone · 08/05/2020 20:19

We live in a close, and our end had a morning coffee all sitting in a circle on our own chairs, suitably distanced, and reminiscing about the history of the road - it was built in the 1950s, and the last of the original owners are all dying off now. It was actually lovely and friendly.

Comefromaway · 08/05/2020 20:19

We’ve had socially distanced tea party with a street quiz. We are lucky that everyone has large drives/front gardens. All the children stayed sitting with their own familIt’s. I put some wrapped sweets out along with a pack of disinfectant wipes for the kids.

Astressedmumoftwo · 08/05/2020 20:21

House opposite have thrown a party. Not invited as just moved in before lockdown. No social distancing, been blaring music since 11am. Toddler can't sleep because of it and getting fed up now . Yes there is bunting

ginsparkles · 08/05/2020 20:21

It's been lovely here, people have bunting up and are sitting in their own front gardens, on their own drives and talking to each other. We all came out on our street to observe the silence together and then sat on our drives (socially distanced) and had tea and cakes. Then we all went back in again.

redsky75 · 08/05/2020 20:25

Crazy...doesn't help that the bbc news said people are being encouraged to have socially distanced street parties. Actually, in the middle of lockdown during a pandemic there should not be encouragement of any kind for any type of street parties. Ridiculous! They were filing from Cosham on the 6 o'clock news and there's no way everyone was socially distancing on that particular street...the Spanish are only just getting to go out for exercise yet in England there are street parties to 'celebrate' VE Day!

AllianceOfCorcles · 08/05/2020 21:19

Grease-mega mix on now 😩

hotdog44 · 08/05/2020 21:33

Same here, all started on front lawns outside their own houses and now all on one , all sitting next to each! Most of these families have been isolating for weeks not seen them out , but today after a few bottles of wine it’s party party !

17million · 08/05/2020 21:49

Bit of a party in my road but most are keeping to their own front gardens. As I am self-isolating being 'vulnerable' I did the 2 minute silence but avoided the partying (not my kind of thing) Then I decided to take ddog for a final walk ('tis allowed) about 8pm and made the mistake of turning into a road strewn with drinking residents and impromptu games of cricket or footie going on. It was either turn round and walk the long way back or boldly go ahead. No-one tried to clear a path for us - ddog got excited and tried to meet and greet - it was insane given we are still in lockdown.
It is very irresponsible and I venture to say that the plant life who behave like this and flout the rules (unlike the 60% who do keep to them) is one of the reasons there is a high death rate in this country. Angry

Smellbellina · 08/05/2020 21:52

We’ve had a lovely day!

Rhodri · 08/05/2020 21:57

These are the same people who were out clapping for the NHS yesterday. Today they’re ignoring social distancing, spreading coronavirus and putting medical staff’s lives at risk. It just proves that the Thursday clapping is merely virtue signalling and means fuck all.

It isn’t a bank holiday for the NHS. My SIL is a doctor and worked an 11 hour shift today. She feels incredibly disrespected by this behaviour.

ScreamedAtTheMichelangelo · 08/05/2020 21:58

Lockdown has ended where I am, apparently. Half the street has been congregating since 11am, kids all playing together, adults all in deckchairs. Cars coming and going all day long. I could cry.

YogaLite · 08/05/2020 21:58

Ah, and now fireworks too Angry

ballsdeep · 08/05/2020 22:09

I haven't critisised the government because I think they are in uncharted territory. However , I think Boris implying that the lockdown may change was abhorrent. I think he should have come out yesterday in the briefing and told everyone parties were banned. Who the hell decided to make VE day garden parties an event??? They've been praised on TV all day today!! Parties around us include karaokes, quizzes, bingo and lots of play with kids. Parents are getting closer and closer with every sip of wine and are now all sat in c circlem I could cry.

confusedandtired99 · 08/05/2020 22:10

I can’t help but feel that today’s made a bit of a mockery out of lockdown if I’m honest.

I’m all for those who are responsibly socially distancing to have some fun, but from watching sky news this evening it’s obvious that a lot of people have thrown social distancing out of the window. My Facebook feeds full of it too.

If that makes me a bore so be it. I don’t care.

confusedandtired99 · 08/05/2020 22:12

I feel incredibly disillusioned by society at the moment

TowerRingInferno · 08/05/2020 22:14

It has been crazy here and has made me so cross. So many neighbours in big groups in the streets drinking together. People who don’t even live in our road set up camp here too. Children playing together, in and out of each other’s houses and gardens.
The same people who clap like crazy on Thursday and put nasty notes on telegraph poles berating non clappers and have endless posts on Facebook thanking the NHS and telling the world about all the amazing things they’ve been doing to help others.

Choctimeout · 08/05/2020 22:19

As soon as the alcohol started flowing our street went from a few people socially distanced but chatting to...a fully fledged piss up.

Complete with mobile disco/hugging/karaoke/fighting.

I've actually had to move out of my living room now as our pissed up window fitter neighbour kept coming and knocking on my window, trying to get us out to join and yelling 'fucking come out then' up the street.

I'm shielding.
