IceCreamRoro · 06/05/2020 06:10

He is an expert on CV and broke social distancing rules.

Is he arrogant or knows something we dont?

The Scottish health minister did so earlier.

Why are they not sticking to this?

Of course he discredited himself. He pushed for kockdown. He believes it should be extended to June.

He has been vocal that people must stick to the guidance given. Nowhere in the guidance is there 'if you think you are probabky now immune, you can mix households'.

You can not put your face all over the media tell people they must stick to the guidance and then ignore it because you fancy a shag. It damages your credibility.

As for her marriage, they very well might be in an open marriage. Not sure i believe that, but its a good way to get people to take the spotlight off her marriage.

@Lumisade you do realise that there are some people who want their 15 minutes of fame. He got it with his ludicrous modelling. Just don’t trust this guys intentions anymore which has discredited everything that comes out of his mouth. This is why he has been forced to resign.

Bluntness100 · 06/05/2020 06:55

He could be an asymptotic carrier

Well no, he’s had it and recovered, so is likely immune.

Bluesheep8 · 06/05/2020 06:58

It hasn't been proven that a person is immune after having it though. Meaning that a person could get it twice. And what if they were asymptomatic the second time? Hmm

rawlikesushi · 06/05/2020 07:00

I know a number of people who are struggling to keep their teenage children from visiting girlfriends and boyfriends, and stories like this just make the message even less clear. I don't care who he shags, but surely he can manage without for the duration of lockdown, like he expects everyone else to?

Peggysgettingcrazy · 06/05/2020 07:02

you do realise that there are some people who want their 15 minutes of fame

He has a history of way over estimating problems, when it gets his face in the media.

Yes, I understand his line of 'theres always variables'. But he has massively over estimated several times. Always coincides with it gaining him media attention.

Whether he is immune or not, isnt the point.

You cant tell people to stick to guidelines, break them yourself and remain credible.

And if you do this while courting media attention, you can expect it to be in the media when you are ignoring your own stance on the situation.

This wouldn't have been a story had he not been courting media attention. If he had released the figures, then stepped back and not got his face all over TV, not given his opinion on what other people should be doing. It wouldn't be a story

whatswithtodaytoday · 06/05/2020 07:03

I think he just wanted a shag?

Bool · 06/05/2020 07:04

@peggysgettingcrazy spot on. Even before this new headline I was wary of him. He seemed to really enjoy the doom and gloom of his shocking number and being the one to get the government to change tack. Now this has happened it’s all fitting into place. Discredited.

BillywilliamV · 06/05/2020 07:06

He knows that amy individual risk is miniscule. He also knows that all those individual miniscule risks add up, so no excuses really!

KatherineJaneway · 06/05/2020 07:10

He placed having a shag over common sense.

bellinisurge · 06/05/2020 07:11

Arrogance. Dick talking louder than brain.

Porseb · 06/05/2020 07:13

There's been a few threads about people having affairs and how they're coping in lockdown - here's your answer and another recently from a married Northern Ireland politician visiting a female friend.

AnyFucker · 06/05/2020 07:17

He pushed for kockdown

Typo of the day

Bluesheep8 · 06/05/2020 07:18

I think he just wanted a shag?

Well, do you know what I think? I think I just want to see my Dad who has late stage Parkinson's and dementia and is in a care home. Also my Mum who is over 70. But I can't. This man is one of the people who have advised the government, based on his scientific evidence, to TELL me that I can't. FFS Hmm

Bool · 06/05/2020 07:19

@anyfucker Grin he sure did!

Bluesheep8 · 06/05/2020 07:21

He pushed for kockdown

Despite being currently furious, I have to have a wry smile at that typo.

StripeyLurcher · 06/05/2020 07:21

Of course he discredited himself. He pushed for kockdown this typo explains the problem.

StripeyLurcher · 06/05/2020 07:22

X post with everyone 😂

Bool · 06/05/2020 07:22

@Bluesheep8 yes and his scientific evidence that is based on wild variables. If his science was based on more than his judgement on the variables then I would have more faith. But since he put the variables in place because of his judgement then he has completely discredited himself.

Wasn’t there another story about him being in competition with another academic historically? That also could have clouded his judgement. Would love to hear from somebody who has worked closely with this guy.

Ilets · 06/05/2020 07:28

We only need most people to follow the rules most of the time. Everyone in power knows this. They only follow what they think they can get away with as a bare minimum.

'Rules are for the guidance of wise men and the obedience of fools'

You lot keep going though, you're doing a great job

Daisydoesnt · 06/05/2020 07:28

He hasn’t resigned either - he has just stepped down from SAGE. He continues to work at Imperial College.

ToffeeYoghurt · 06/05/2020 07:28

I thought experts had found you can't get it twice? Someone wrote a very well explained post about this two days ago on another thread.

Seems likely he's immune.

In any case. If a policeman or judge drinks drives, that doesn't mean drink driving is ok or safe.

Him committing a minor breach of lockdown, whilst wrong, doesn't invalidate his research, expertise, or advice.

It's all very convenient him being caught out just as there's pressure from (mainly multi millionaires) to end lockdown early. Whether it's safe to (economically as much as anything else) or not.

One of these multi millionaires, Simon Dolan, is worth around £142million. He resides in Monaco and has avoided paying a lot of UK tax through (legal) tax avoidance schemes.

Despite his many millions he's launched a crowdfunder to take our government to court over our lockdown. At great cost to our tax revenues.

Apparently he's concerned about our 'lack of freedom'. Which is very odd since Monaco, where he lives, has a much stricter lockdown. He's not too bothered about that for some reason.

He cites concern for those suffering because of the lockdown pandemic. If he wants to help I'm sure he could easily afford to make a large donation directly to some of the charities supporting the vulnerable, or struggling businesses, or the NHS.

Tomorrowisanewday · 06/05/2020 07:29

He was arguing, fairly vociferously, that the lockdown be extended further than the government appears to be suggesting, as late as the end of last week. I obviously missed the part where he said "for the whole country, apart from me"

drcb83 · 06/05/2020 07:30

Hehe He does not know something we don't - he just wanted a shag!!

ToffeeYoghurt · 06/05/2020 07:32

He's not the only expert either. Clearly countries worldwide have followed similar advice.

And to be honest does anyone with an ounce of common sense really need an expert to tell them social distancing and lockdowns prevent the spread of highly infectious diseases. They worked that out hundreds of years ago during the plague. It's pretty basic.
