Support thread for those who've had Covid symptoms or post-viral fatigue for at least 7 weeks/49 days or longer.

If your symptoms haven't lasted that long, check out the Lung 7 thread (or later). It'll be more helpful as people there will be in a more similar position.

@Dandyish good question. No he isn’t a Dr. I reay should change my user name in the current climate ha ha. He works on Governmental Construction jobs that are deemed essential works. So yes we qualified on the NHS.

This is a good thing to post about actually.

When you register, it asks you for your name and DOB and you choose from a drop down of occupations. At no point was this checked. Dare I suggest that any of you could book on as your occupation isnt checked at all. (Flame me).

So, you book on and it asks you to take a QR code and photo ID. (My ID wasnt checked but others have been turned away without it). You cannot book a test for under 18’s as the booking system wont recognise their D.O.B.

However when I got there, they offered me a kit for each DC As they were over five. I swabbed them and myself, DH did his and i held no hope as it wasnt the method of pushing it up the nose and down the back of the throat, you merely swiped across the back of your throat and inserted into nostril. I completed it on an 8yr old and although she cried, it wasnt intrusive.

To get their results i had to assign them an email address/phone number and DOB which we just gave a false one for each child to get them uploaded as “over 18”.

So the system is clearly flawed and there to boost testing figures. But anyone symptomatic its easy to register. I felt I should do it for my own mental health in that I had tried anything and everything to be noticed and helped.

There’s no contact with people you phone from within your car when you arrive and they either hang the kit on your mirror or post it through ur window. Xxxx

Thanks @TheDrsWife46

That’s good to know. My DH qualifies as an essential worker so we could do it, except I’m the only one with symptoms. But I don’t think a swab is going to add anything that will help me. Hospital has already diagnosed me with it. I blood tests, chest x ray and an ECC a few days ago and all was looking fine apart from some inflammation showing a virus and a slightly raised enzyme level. So no major health concerns (other then low oxygen saturation rates, which they treated me for).

I’m going to wait for an antibodies test.

@Dandyish I didn’t have it to begin with, it started 2-3 weeks ago I think. I’m day 63.

Dandyish · 07/05/2020 09:41

@Moodgie yes it started a couple of weeks ago for me too! What I said about up until Day 48 was misleading. It had been a bit on and off up until Week 5. Then it got bad. I had that for two weeks but it seems to have eased in the last two days. However I’m going to start keeping a note of stomach pains and bowel movements to track it.

norugratsatall I've had raised red spots on my hands and toes.

thedrswife46 Even people that have been in hospital aren't getting support/aftercare what hope is there for us.
I'm so grateful for these threads.

Day 50 Sad

After yesterday, I thought I was recovering. This thing keeps on giving.
I woke this morning feeling very chesty, wheezy and gunky. Not sure if it's the asthma or virus.
SOB when sitting, cold acid feeling in windpipe.chest hurts as does most of me. Very tender ribs.sore throat. It's like it's back to week one.Sad
I just hope it's a flare/asthma.
Fed up is an understatement. ahhhhh

emoojoo · 07/05/2020 09:56

@notrugratsatall I'm just reading through last night and this morning - don't worry if you haven't had a reply the thread is so busy it is hard for us all to keep up. I'm day 49 ish and still have same symptoms you describe, i also have occasional chills or flushing, dodgy tummy, lack of appetite (but trying to eat little and often to build up as I've lost a lot of weight). The nights are the worst for me at the moment, I'm piecing together the odd hour and a half of sleep and only getting between 1 and at best 5.5 hrs at the mo. Usually I'm a good sleeper. Take care and please keep posting!

KatySun · 07/05/2020 09:56

meercatmama thanks for the update on your return to work yesterday! I saw it but was not up to posting. Good that there are not after effects today. Long may that last 🤞

My mental health is taking a dip now with this. Courage to everyone stuck in this position Flowers

Rosesofeyam · 07/05/2020 10:06

My DH is classed as a key worker.
(Management,WFH mainly).

We decided it's too late to be tested for covid, also when we thought about the drive through ones it was an hour drive. No way could I have coped with that journey in the car.
We have a mobile testing one now in the town, eight miles away.

Moodgie · 07/05/2020 10:08

@Dandyish I’m wondering if it could be related to me taking quite a lot of vitamin c and d. Also eating quite a lot of fibre and a smoothie every day. With a history of IBS- type symptoms, who knows. I certainly hope that’s what’s causing it.

Egghead68 · 07/05/2020 10:10

@Norugratsatall sorry it was not intentional. Many of us are suffering from fatigue and brain fog and finding it hard to keep track of the fast-moving thread on our phones. Do please post again. I hope you are recovering from this horrible illness.

Dandyish · 07/05/2020 10:19

@Moodgie I’ve not been taking it doing those things. I have a history of IBS and I put recent issues down to my IBS being triggered due to inflammation in my body. Don’t know if it’s true but whenever I’m unwell or was pre-menstrual I’d having any kind of imbalance, I get unhappy bowels.
Actually reminds me, for the first 3-4 weeks I was so bloated. I remember asking if anyone else had that but I don’t think anyone replied to that. (It happens to most of us @Norugratsatall not personal!)

Moominmamma33 · 07/05/2020 10:21

@lightsabre @Egghead68 @fedupofbed thank you for the sympathy yesterday. Am a bit better so far today... @Egghead sorry you're bed bound again, what are the heart symptoms like you're experiencing? Do you need to update your GP? Remember tomorr is a bank holiday so they may be closed for the weekend after today.. @Norugratsatall sorry your post was missed, it happens easily on here as others have said as we're mostly feeling awful and trying to keep track of the thread is almost impossible as it moves fast, and many of us have brain fog to go with our other lovely symptoms Grin I hope you stay here and post again with updates. We're all here in it together, after all. No other bugger in the world cares about our experiences though, it seems! Hope everyone else has an improving day.

Kitcat122 · 07/05/2020 10:28

@Norugratsatall, I have again got back chest pain and sob after feeling much better for a few weeks. No covid toes though. I'm day 55 😩

Egghead68 · 07/05/2020 10:29

Sounding good @crayfishforyou!

@dumberthandumb sorry you are on this same horrible journey. If we can make it through the 50s then maybe things will look up a little (although I am aware of a woman who still has symptoms after contracting the virus on New Year’s Eve (at a party of Chinese people at a big London hotel).

Commiserations on your anniversary @Dandyish. Glad you are feeling brighter.

@thedrswife46 I am glad you slept well and are feeling more with it at least. Very interesting to hear your experiences of testing. I am not surprised the swab was negative at this stage. I won’t be able to do my antibody test until I am well enough to walk the 2 miles to the priority postbox and back safely which won’t be anytime soon, unfortunately. I will report back when I manage it though.

Moodgie · 07/05/2020 10:30

@Dandyish Yes, I get that with my period too. Wonder whether at this stage it is a symptom or whether out bodies are so deregulated. I only get it first thing in the morning - feel nauseous and have to go to the toilet - the rest of the day is fine.

Egghead68 · 07/05/2020 10:31

@Norugratsatall have caught up with your post. We are on the same day. It is truly rubbish. I have/had most of your symptoms except Covid-toes but there are increasing reports of these.

Lightsabre · 07/05/2020 10:42

@Dandyish, have you tried Kefir? Not sure you can have it if you have INS but my stomach seems to have settled on it.

Dandyish · 07/05/2020 10:43

No @Lightsabre I haven’t! I may try and get it.

Has anyone tried beetroot juice? Apparently there’s some research that it might help if taken in certain concentration and doses?

onlinelinda · 07/05/2020 10:45

@thedoctorswife it IS disgusting.

I do know this is a personal support thread but please just allow me this one rant, as I'm feeling recovered enough to be so shocked and angry this morning.

The government are absolute fuckers for not organising enough Coronavirus tests, or early enough. Including a GP I know, and another hospital doctor and his GP wife mentioned in an article by a teenager in today's guardian. It is an absolute outrage when you think about it. And we will still have to wait god knows how long for a reliable and acknowledged antibody test.

The threshold for other tests which a hospital could offer is likely to be also too high , IMO.

Dandyish · 07/05/2020 10:46

I meant to also say thanks for the tip @lightsabre btw!

And to be clear, I heard beetroot was good for Covid symptoms not dodgy stomachs (although hopefully it helps with that too!)

OP posts:
onlinelinda · 07/05/2020 10:49

@Dandyish a dietitian has told me protein, healthy carbs, lots of fruit and veg. Dairy. Avoid unhealthy carbs and sugar, as covid can raise your glucose levels. Take a vit D tablet, plus E sources.

You maybe better with beetroot in salad? Roasted is nice, with goat cheese or feta and leaves, or fresh uncooked grated.

Arewehere · 07/05/2020 10:51

Day 60 here & yesterday was onr of the worst. I feel so drained, so weak & my chest pain has moved from the left to the right.

It feels like someone is pulling strings tightly inside my chest, like a shoelace. I wonder if it is 'healing' lile a bruise?

Kitcat122 · 07/05/2020 10:51

Test wise, I feel they should be available for key workers. I know they don't check on line but if everyone lied to get a test Keyworkers and their families would be delayed in getting tested. This said from a keyworker who hasn't gone online to get a test as know I am well past the time for a positive result so don't want to take a slot from someone else who may need it today.

pinkoneblueone · 07/05/2020 10:52

@Norugratsatall

I have had one COVID toe it appeared last week out of the blue and filled me with fear it is going thankfully but wasn't as severe as yours probably was I also have had itchy hands and feet.

Dandyish · 07/05/2020 10:56

Thanks @onlinelinda that’s very helpful. Must admit I’ve probably been having too much sugar, been craving chocolate on and off. I had roasted beetroot yesterday and it was delicious!

@arewehere oh poor you, a v bad day at Day 60 is ROUGH, we’d hope worst days would be over by then.

My chest pain moved from left to right too! Happened at the end of last week. It seems to have eased a fair bit. Could all change again.

Healing like a bruise is an interesting thought - very possibly.
