Support thread for those who've had Covid symptoms or post-viral fatigue for at least 7 weeks/49 days or longer.

If your symptoms haven't lasted that long, check out the Lung 7 thread (or later). It'll be more helpful as people there will be in a more similar position.

Thank you, changeagainandagain - hope you feel better now.

My dh actually recovered after I posted that - after refusing two requests from both the 111 doctor and the GP the following day to get an ambulance to A&E.

This strange illness.

Interesting to hear he was not the only one with confusion as a symptom.

Did you have treatment?

@pinkoneblueone call 111 for advice

Report
pinkoneblueone · 15/05/2020 02:12

111 said to keep an eye on him and that we’d be surprised how late people are testing positive as on the wards they are testing positive for 6/7weeks. She suggested we go get tested. She said the best we can do is treat this with pain relief and antihistamines.

@Countingsheeps I have just read back and spotted you are in hospital. Are you ok do you need to talk?I can't see me sleeping now.

@pinkoneblueone good to know they think you can manage him at home and that they suggested testing. It must be so terrifying when it’s your kids. Just thought I’d stop by as I’m awake. Hope you manage to sleep

@UtterlyPerfectCartoonGiraffe how is your little one now I am now worried about this illness being a factor in my sons recovery due to rashes that have appeared on My son in the last few hours.

Thank you @LetsBeSensible I realty appreciate you being here it is very scary I am now worried my youngest may develop this down the line too. I am really honestly petrified for my children.

@pinkoneblueone I take it your son has had symptoms before this, if so how long? I’ve heard of the rash appearing late on like 4-6 weeks in, or at the very start. I didn’t get the rash myself (although I’m having another eczema outbreak today) did the other posters with kids start a “Covid kids” thread?

Report
pinkoneblueone · 15/05/2020 02:43

I'd be too terrified to look at that tbh. My son is likely to be 9 weeks in now as we all fell ill around the same time. I will go look for the thread as I probably won't sleep now.

@pinkoneblueone Sorry to hear your ds is poorly. This illness is horrible Sad Ds is mostly fine in himself now. He has a sore throat (again!) and a lymph gland in his neck is up, but he managed a long ish walk and a bit more dinner than usual. Not quite back to 100%, but at least 80%.

Weirdly, ds’s rash started on his elbows too Confused I’ve put up a pic of his arm - you can see his normal skin colour at the top of his arm compared to the redness everywhere else.

If it helps, even when he had the rash he was healthy-ish. Still quite fatigued but much better than the week before when he’d been in bed-bound with the fever and cough. The rash only lasted about 36 hours from the first spots/redness appearing so I hope it’s out of the way soon for your ds too.

The gp asked questions about red or swollen eyes, and redness or skin peeling on soles of feet and palms so that might be something to look out for.

What he emphasised was to be really low tolerance for any new symptoms and to call back to the gp if I was worried about my change, no matter how small. So definitely stay in touch with your gp/111 if you’re worried, but I hope your ds will be like mine and will stay out of hospital and recover well at home Flowers

Sorry for rambling a lot, feel free to ask me anything if I’ve missed it or it doesn’t make sense Blush

@pinkoneblueone hopefully there are some night owls on the boards to talk to. You just need to do another hour and a half until daylight, then another two until people start to get up and the day begins. If you can’t sleep you can check in on your boy then see how he is and call the GP if necessary by 8-9am

Thank you both @UtterlyPerfectCartoonGiraffe and @LetsBeSensible

Bless your sons wee heart the rash looks so painful even if it isn't. I like your doctor the 111 doctor said to keep an eye on
Him also asked the same questions as your GP. Ds was due to have a blood test tomorrow which he's not happy with me about it as he feels ok apart from a sore head, being really thirsty and itchy. (I am mega itchy too with spots all through my hair).

I will need to try and get DS up and about and moving as he has become very lazy. I really appreciate you taking the time to talk to me especially at this hour. I am reassured by your son being otherwise well apart from a few other minor things. My son has costochondritis too which flared up 3 days ago. I am feeling so utterly fed up at this point I just want us all to be well again.

8 weeks or 10 weeks depending on when I count from.

Been a bit up and down the past few days. No SOB but have been quite weak/fatigued so haven’t attempted to do much to test myself. For the past few days, have had a burning sensation in head and felt faint when done ‘too much’ (not actually very much - just climbing stairs then standing a couple of minutes to change DD’s nappy). DH carries our hefty 7 month old up and down stairs as it is too much for me right now.

Tried phoning GP yesterday as the burning in my head worried me but they haven’t returned my call. They seem to have me pegged as having anxiety so I wonder if they are just ignoring me now. I live in an area with one of the lowest rates of the virus in the country. Obviously, that is a very good thing for everyone lives or works here, but I wonder if my GPs are seeing few cases of people with longrunning symptoms.

Felt a lot better yesterday evening and managed a normal lighthearted chat with DH but lung pains returned this morning. Fatigue seems to descend now they are easing off a bit.

It feels like whack-a-mole. No sooner do one or two symptoms ease off than another starts up again.

Had stabbing abdominal pains for a few days with bloating, especially in evening. Then upset tummy (sorry, TMI) in mornings. But those symptoms seem to have mainly eased off.

Flowers to everyone here

@Countingsheeps and @pinkoneblueone How scary for you both. Am glad though that you are both getting what sounds like cautious and attentive medical advice/monitoring. Thinking of you both, and DS @pinkoneblueone Flowers

Sorry that I am only dipping in. I would really like to be able to keep up with what's happening for everyone but it is hard to do so with a lively 7 month old who will only nap on me...

Dear all,

I am at 8 and a half weeks. I started reading this thread about 2 weeks ago whilst I was in bed ill and have found it very useful, particularly to help ease my anxiety. Whilst I wouldn't want to wish these symptoms on anyone, it was re-assuring to know that I am not the only one!

I wonder if I may ask some advice and I apologise in advance if this has been covered before. I have abdominal pain/swelling/inflammation that seems to be exasperated by being either stood up or sat down. This has been going on since the beginning and I can only assume that the weight of my chest etc is pressing down and contributing to this problem as it disappeared whilst I spent a week in bed. There is very mixed press with regards to whether I should take ibuprofen or any other anti-inflammation drugs. What does everyone else think, is it ok to take ibuprofen? and would anyone else recommend any other anti inflammation drugs for this problem? I will ring the Doctor again next week, but they seem as much in the dark as we are with all these symptoms.

I am aware that my symptoms whilst debilitating at times, pale in comparison to some people on here. I can only send everyone my best and hope that we can all beat this horrible thing as as soon as possible.
Thanks & best wishes, Steve

There is a really good article in the Guardian today about patients who have symptoms for longer than previously thought possible, and about the weird collection of symptoms people have. It's by an infectious disease doctor who also had COVID.
