In fairness its NOT that different from the plans laid out by Ireland (including timetable).

Inkpaperstars · 10/05/2020 20:54

@OldQueen1969

Yes, I am concerned that outdoor spaces will now be even more crowded. It is so difficult to keep two metres apart now.

EmeraldShamrock · 10/05/2020 20:56

@RedToothBrush I know both countries be screwed. We've a 5km limit now though the majority have giving up on lockdown at this stage the good weather hasn't helped.

mrshoho · 10/05/2020 21:06
  • Unlimited outdoor exercise includes angling, golf, water sports and tennis provided all socially distanced from Wednesday

I'm sorry but this just screams to me a jolly old long summer break for the privileged few.

Also his words "you can travel to another destination" . It's very unfair that certain groups will still get a lovely holiday while the rest of us don't. And very irresponsible that travel could spread the virus to currently low rate areas.

EmeraldShamrock · 10/05/2020 21:14

The school starting with the youngest does seem like an experiment.
I hope transport operators run more services to help with social distancing.
I'm not sure why we're not being advised to cover up with a scarf or a homemade mask.

EmeraldShamrock · 10/05/2020 21:16

In fairness its NOT that different from the plans laid out by Ireland (including timetable) I'm not sure why you had to put NOT in capitals.

Keepdistance · 10/05/2020 21:22

Tbh they arent going to want devon and cornwall to stay so much lower.

It is different from roi as they arent going back to school.
Luckily my dc isnt in the year groups.
But i wonder if they will split the classes?
If they do they cant then bring any more years back.
But hopefully they would give 2-3w before adding any more so leaving only a few weeks dc might be expected in.
Feel fir the teachers though.

Focusanddetermination · 10/05/2020 21:30

If everyone now goes out, spreads and catches this, isn't it logical that the next peak will start in 2-3 weeks, which is the start of June?

RedToothBrush · 10/05/2020 21:56

Darran Marshall @DarranMarshall
Telegraph : Furloughing to be extended until the end of September, at a reduced rate of 60%.

StrawberryJam200 · 10/05/2020 22:51

Yes @Focusanddetermination I was thinking that. He said they'd be monitoring daily but it Ames 1-2 weeks for infections to show and 3-4 for any resultant deaths to occur...

HeIenaDove · 10/05/2020 22:58

THIS times 1"000"000

WhoWants2Know · 10/05/2020 23:02

So really, it's going to be around 13th of June before we see the effects of changes that come into place on Wednesday.

Considering how people responded to VE Day celebrations, I'm less than optimistic about the way the wider public will respond to this announcement.

Gobbolinocat · 10/05/2020 23:06

I don't know what to think.
Who can open, who can't?
Which businesses?
Will their be lists published?

Very confusing.

Gobbolinocat · 10/05/2020 23:10

I also agree saucery that's its gearing up for wave 2. But tyre are arguments that to deal with winter... We need the economy going again to provide money to fight the problems in Winter.
We need to manage this wave....

ToffeeYoghurt · 11/05/2020 00:24

England's certainly pulled the short straw. Sensible people in charge of Wales, Scotland, and NI.

Nowhere else is going for a 'herd immunity' mass death and longer term economic damage
Italians are shocked we didn't heed their warning.

I'm beginning to think we're the only country in the world with a large number of people supporting eugenics.

Aside from a small minority of gun toting fanatics in America, it seems other countries haven't suffered an epidemic of common sense failure. Few people elsewhere think an infectious virus will go away if we pretend it has.

The amount of Othering on MN the past few weeks is an eye-opener. It's sadly not a minority view it seems. The same people are clamouring for an immediate return to routine hospital treatments. They don't seem to understand that won't be possible given the infection rate is still very high in hospitals.

I would suggest the 1922 committee and their like lead by example by travelling to and from the houses of parliament on packed London underground, buses, and trains. But I suspect they, unlike Joe public, have access to the drugs that've shown so much promise. I'm also confident, drugs or not, they'd get fast treatment regardless of the inevitable overwhelmed hospitals in the second wave.

I feel physically sick the more I think about the criminal negligence re care homes.

woodpidgeons · 11/05/2020 00:28

Great post ToffeeYoghurt couldn't agree more

Keepdistance · 11/05/2020 00:39

Yes exactly. Loads of selfish not too bright people who arent good at maths and seem to think they will never be old or have anything wrong.

They are even arguing because they wanted their kids back for to school (i mean herd immunity).
Someone has even said they would be more worried about noro (they clearly dont understand that a %of the kids will get d&v with this as well as the other symptoms.
12940 cases in the week up to 6/05 i think. Sti ll way too many to open up stuff.
Also bj seems to have ignored the unions and just announced it

ToffeeYoghurt · 11/05/2020 00:59

It's fantastic news about the unions. Saying they will stand up for workers rights to a safe working environment. Well done to them.

I was reading earlier about the Kawasaki disease type illness affecting children linked to Covid. So far a very small number only but it's early days and this is just another example of why we need to take a cautious approach.

We don't yet know enough about the disease or it's potential longer-term effects.

new york times on timing and difficulties about covid-19 development.
fazit: it's coming along well, but even if nothing goes wrong then a vaccine will only be available for mass immunisations in summer 2021.

lighthousemuseum · 11/05/2020 07:21

Why is it that people can take unlimited exercise from Wednesday but can go back to work with 12 hours notice? I’m not arguing we should take unlimited exercise sooner! This just seems to exemplify the lack of thinking or logic behind anything the government does.

Comenext · 11/05/2020 07:26

@bluefoxmug Thanks That was a great read! Very interesting. Better remind our politicians to get the factories ready now? It usually takes a few years to build anything in this country

WhoWants2Know · 11/05/2020 08:57

This morning Raab has said that the return to work is meant to happen on Wednesday, and also said that you can meet up with more than one person at a park if you socially distance.

changeshermind · 11/05/2020 09:06

Does this mean that men will go to work and women stay at home. Or whoever has the better job

RedToothBrush · 11/05/2020 10:25

I've just seen a local news article on a nearby hospital in the North West.

It currently has MORE ICU patients than two weeks ago and the hospital is particularly concerned.
