I have gone nuts and paid someone to come to my house and do an antibody test on us

Can't take anymore not knowing so I've paid £260 to bike out a test from a lab and wait while we stab ourselves and return our blood to the lab

Dh thinks I've gone a bit batshit but I couldn't take anymore

Disclaimer : it won't affect my behaviour in line with current government guidelines

Those of us that are pretty sure we have had it especially those where doctors concur what difference would it make if we had it confirmed via antibody test?
As far as I know immunity is not known and some scientists think having it will provide immunity but in all likelihood weak short-lived immunity.

isitspringyet23 · 08/05/2020 06:26

Hope your results come through today x

CupCupGoose · 08/05/2020 06:52

Surely an antibody test would be very unreliable though? I might be completely wrong but wouldn't you only produce antibodies if you were exposed to the virus again? So say you had had corona virus, made antibodies and recovered, you'd only produce antibodies again if you came into contact with coronvirus again? So if you have been self isolating and had an antibody test without any contact with CV germs, you would test negative for imunity? Sorry I've probably explained that so badly! Will be interesting to see what your results are though op. I hope you are immune!

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 08/05/2020 06:57

@jewel1968 your story sounds like mine.

So that’s not a confirmed diagnosis but suspected so you can’t confidently say YES WE HAD COVID19.

the fact you weren’t absolutely knocked for six either also raises doubt.

No test = confirmation of case whether past or present.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 08/05/2020 06:57

*no confirmation so you can never be certain

Splitsunrise · 08/05/2020 07:13

Interested to see results!

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 08/05/2020 07:39

I’d so do this!! I’m on immunosuppressants so would mean I wouldn’t be so paranoid. I’d not be less careful but my paranoia of catching it would be less. I think I may have had it but I’m not convinced as it was January but if they are saying it was around then? It’s possible.

jewel1968 · 08/05/2020 08:09

@PaulHollywoodsSexGut I wasn't knocked for six but DP was He is still suffering hence hospital for tests to look for any long term damage. I still don't understand why they didn't do antibody test on him then.

I agree we can't be sure but GPs routinely diagnose illness based on symptoms rather than blood tests and we accept it. As I said not sure it matters knowing as can't see any real advantage as immunity not guaranteed. Would be interesting to know for sure but is it necessary?

I am an essential worker so we could be offered antibody tests when they are available.

FourPlasticRings · 08/05/2020 09:46

True. Many of us tell midwives we've had chicken pox already without ever having been actually tested for the antibodies.

kb16 · 08/05/2020 13:45

Good luck OP!

glotterbug · 08/05/2020 13:46

Very tempted by this, both myself and my husband were hospitalised at the end of jan with pneumonia but we presented a pickle to the staff as they couldn't work out why 2 healthy 35-40 year olds with no underlying health issues both had pneumonia at the same time. We were an oddity, makes me think it could have been COVID, would like to know for sure.

Orangeblossom78 · 08/05/2020 13:53

I've been having a strange kind of Scottish dementoring similar to the post earlier about keeping the virus in England or whatever it was. The gist seems to be there's no cases near family in Scotland . However the cases are much higher than here in the south west. Because family have been totally reassuring my elderly dad that it's nothing to worry about as there's no cases I ended up telling him simple stuff like about washing hands. Nothing dementorish just might be a good idea as he's older etc. Wierd kind of denial dementoring thing that it's not in Scotland

Orangeblossom78 · 08/05/2020 13:54

Sorry that was meant for elsewhere

Arewehere · 08/05/2020 13:58

Stressymcstressfacs

I emailed them
