Just seen on daily fail (sorry!) that Boris is going to announce that we will be lockdown until June at least.

Not sure if I can cope that long. 😩

Of course some people think being a carer is beneath them, and that some people would be crap at it which isn't fair on those in their care. But let's not pretend that everyone who does it has aspired to since childhood, and is living their dream; plenty take care jobs because they need to support their families and can't get anything else.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 30/04/2020 14:11

The choice is not between an indefinite lock down and lets all get back to normal asap

Now that I defintely agree with
Rather than either, what we need is a sensible and balanced approach which takes all needs into account and focuses on the longer term picture instead of - as I've said - today's headlines

bookbuddy · 30/04/2020 14:13

@GrimmsFairytales get your friend to see her gp, one of my relatives has a gp issued letter saying that her mental state is more of a priority than the risk of her contracting Covid with strict measures the family are now able to offer her additional support.

GrimmsFairytales · 30/04/2020 14:13

I am saying people now who have been capable of holding down jobs long term are probably perfectly capable of working in care. They just think it is beneath them.

My friend works in a residential care home. It's the only job she has ever done, and she's bloody amazing at it.

Its nothing to do with thinking the job is beneath them. People shouldn't go into care as a, just because I need the money job. It's detrimental to the residents and service users.

GabsAlot · 30/04/2020 14:13

i didnt ask your personal circumstan ces you obviously arent abiding by it anyway so it doesnt matter whthr its next week or not does it @lockedinfornow

GrimmsFairytales · 30/04/2020 14:15

@bookbuddy That's interesting, and I will definitely mention it to my friend. Do you think it has to be family providing the care or would I, as a friend, be a suitable alternative?

lockedinfornow · 30/04/2020 14:15

@GabsAlot you asked why I thought it wouldn't go on, I said because people are getting fed up. The rest wasn't aimed at you.

TopBitchoftheWitches · 30/04/2020 14:16

Fucks sake, stop whining about how you can't last that long. You just have to stay home, it's not that difficult, I am still having to work every week day as a keyworker, I'd rather not tbh, we are scared. Stop moaning.

Greyrosewall · 30/04/2020 14:16

Well we’ve worked from home now for the past 4 weeks and our company is making noises about going back to a socially distanced office on May 11th.
Our work output is apparently being affected by WFH so they’ll get our team and another back before the rest of the workforce.
Makes a mockery of struggling through WFH for the past few weeks as nothing has changed.
Our managers are now thinking of wealth before health. It was bound to happen.

GabsAlot · 30/04/2020 14:16

Well theyre not going to lift it because people are fed up are they-people were fed up 3 weeks ago

lockedinfornow · 30/04/2020 14:17

@TopBitchoftheWitches that's so small
Minded. To some people it IS that difficult. None of this is normal! You wouldn't tell someone who was depressed to just stop moaning, so why say it to people struggling with these current circumstances?!

FliesandPies · 30/04/2020 14:17

the mental health of some people with serious mental health problems has improved

Where have you got that from?

There will be a vaccine, several international companies are working on one now, testing it on humans. It showed good initial results on animals

That means nothing. There is huge competition to get a vaccine out and that carries huge dangers with it. You also have to persuade people that it's a good idea to take it and might find a lot of people refuse.

What about those that have lost their jobs @TopBitchoftheWitches - should they stop moaning too when they have bills to pay and mouths to feed?

lockedinfornow · 30/04/2020 14:18

@GabsAlot no I don't think it will be fully lifted, I think certain things will though.

HarrietOh · 30/04/2020 14:19

Wonder how many people who are saying 'stop whining' etc. have just spent the last 6 weeks completely alone with no other human contact.

HeresMe · 30/04/2020 14:19

Cheers for that pep talk, I'm sure that's helpful to the mentally ill, the abused. We all have to have empathy if someone contracts covid, but anything else it's fuck off according to a number of posters.

If you are a key worker I sincerely hope you don’t work in health! What a vile, cruel attitude towards those who are seriously struggling with mental health issues and poverty. Just gross.

FliesandPies · 30/04/2020 14:25

No, they will not be 'perfectly capable of working in care'. That is the 'unskilled' bullshit being put out by the Gov before they decided care workers were 'heroes' instead. Care work requires a certain personality and mix of skills. It's definitely NOT a job that anyone could do.

loobyloo1234 · 30/04/2020 14:25

Some people on MN really are just total wankers arent they? Me me me me me. Telling people to stop whining from your ivory tower - seriously wish these people would fuck off

Russellbrandshair · 30/04/2020 14:27

@loobyloo1234

Yes I completely agree.

Mascotte · 30/04/2020 14:30

@Puzzledandpissedoff yes, he's really good. A moderate and positive voice amongst the DOOM!!

Wow aren't you a peach? I do hope your job isn't in the caring profession because you certainly don't come across as someone who cares at all.

TinRoofRusty · 30/04/2020 14:35

Remember, those stuck up proles can also combine working in care homes with fruit and veg picking for the full compliment. Let them eat strawberries!

Fallsballs · 30/04/2020 14:35

“Stop Whining” oh ok then.
As PP said, I hope you aren’t working where anyone needs help or sympathy.

InFiveMins · 30/04/2020 14:36

People will not stay indoors for another month, I would be very surprised anyway. In my local area (Manchester) every day that passes there are more people on the roads. I've definitely noticed a more relaxed attitude over the last week or so.
